We found it difficult to find 'the Den', but well worth the persistence! We ordered a lunch banquet, and thoroughly enjoyed all food served. Was a great price & certainly enough quantity. Customer service was very friendly and professional. Great staff & ambient interior. So comfortable, so yummy & fresh!

Amazing place, dropped down to be pleasantly delighted with corn balls, salmon sashimi and pork belly. Great sake and wine available, highly recommended.

Try the popped corn and chicken. And the sashimi (always as an entree - remember that), was fresh and delightful.

Izakaya Den is my go-to restaurant when there is something small to celebrate or when you just want to treat yourself. I'm not going to deny I had trouble finding it the first time I came, but as is the way with Melbourne, the harder it is to find, the better the place. I've been coming here for about three... More

walked in on a recent thursday night. Seated at the bar which was fine for 2 of us. Drinks order taken quickly. The place was quickly filling up but we didn't feel forgotten at the bar. Order taken, and drinks replenished before food started coming plate by plate. Designed to share, we had some rare wagyu, kingfish sashimi, some delicious... More

Went with work colleagues for lunch and we either had the 'Classic' or 'Lite' Menu to share between two. The décor is uber cool and the food was just beautiful and prepared and cooked to perfection. We were seated at the small table on high stools by the wall which was good but I think next time I would prefer... More

A great venue once you go down the stairs and through the curtain. Sat at the counter in front of the open plan kitchen and had a great meal. The food was excellent and there is a good selection of Sake and Japanese Beers as well. Definitely worth a visit.

I first came here with a friend 5 yrs ago and since my brother is visiting from overseas, another friend suggested that he should try izakaya. I googled for the best izakaya in Melbourne CBD and Izakaya Den remains rated as the best izakaya in Melbourne. I didn't remember it to be great the first time I tried it 5... More

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
