I'm not sure what has happened but the place has changed during the 18 months I have been out of Melbourne. Food was OK, but not the standard it once was.

Food was good but the manager was absolutely rude and was yelling at us. When we requested sugar, we were yelled at "no sugar in Chinese tea". I do understand that Chinese tea doesn't use sugar but one of my guestsdid didn't know it, and this could have been told politely. I was shocked and disappointed with Enlightened cuisine, because... I was so impressed to see that the entire menu was vegan. One thing I have missed is eating Chinese food, and this restaurant really hit the spot. The sweet and sour chicken tasted like the real deal, I almost wanted to check with the waitress that it wasn't real chicken! Service was outstanding. Only downfall is that it is... More

Nice Malaysian style place with vegetarian and vegan dishes. Menu broken up by type of fish/poultry/meat the dishes are simulating. Lots of pure veggie choices too. No garlic or onion due to Buddhist influences. Still the dishes are very flavorful.

The food was good and relatively freshly prepared. Service was the best part for me - they were very accommodating and explained everything clearly. However, comparing to many other vegetarian restaurants, I find the price is a little high. Probably will not come back, didn't think the food was worth the price.

we tried this restaurant after a recommendation from a friend. This restaurant provides a wide variety of dishes shown on its menu (not just cury,...etc) and on reading the description we understand that these would involve complex technique of cooking. Having previously disappointed with the taste of vegetarian dishes in some establishment, We were surprised that the dishes were all... More

One of the most incredible vegetarian / vegan menus I've seen. I've never had such an array of options in a restaurant before. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable, and answered all of our many questions. The food itself was delicious, with some very interesting textures. I wish I was staying in Melbourne longer so I can try more... More

I've been here a few times with large groups of people. The menu is huge and almost everything can be made vegan. The last time we went we had one of the banquets and all 8 of us left very satisfied. It is located about an 8 minute walk from Flinders Street station. BYO with a $6 corkage fee and... More

I've only been here once and only have bad memories. I'd ordered the san choi bau and after receiving it I saw that it hadn't been washed there were bugs all over it. The rest of the meal was okay, but because of that one thing I now can't go back.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
