I wandered into Degraves Street looking for somewhere that appeared nice from the outside and had an available table with a decent menu on display, and Il Tempo fit the bill. They had an undercover seating area, and it was lucky as it started to pour down while I was having my meal, so I kept dry. I ordered a... More

We always have to eat some real Italian food at least once a week to keep the engine going. We choose Il Tiempo for lunch because it looked like a trattoria and the staff was as nervous and energetic as an Italian should be. We were not disappointed. We ordered a bottle of red Montepulciano wine and started with bruschetta... More

Pizza delight, situated in Degraves Street, Melbourne. After trudging around in 35 degree heat at the Australian Open all day, it was great to be able to sit down and enjoy the sights and sounds of Degraves Street. Craving salt I ordered the Napoli and my daughter settled for the Chicken Pesto Pizza. Both turned up at the same time,... More

+ the location is very central + outside seating opportunities - very bad food quality - too expensive for that bad quality - service unfriendly - outside seating area smells like toilette

Tried this Italian restaurant located in this trendy little lane way chose a table on the sidewalk so we could watch the hordes passing buy, the young man that served us was polite and attentive. We chose the big breakfast to share (lucky because it was huge) and a side of fruit toast, they say you eat with your eyes,... More

I was very put off by the attitude of who I guess was the owner, when he seemed unhappy that we just wanted coffee instead of a meal. What he fails to realise is that a positive coffee experience can turn into repeat business. We travel to Melbourne a lot for work and generally try to find good cafes in... More

We needed a quick meal before going off to a sporting match, and the waiter obliged despite being run off his feet. We dined outdoors despite the heat, as it seemed a little cooler in the shade with a little breeze blowing past occasionally. I have never enjoyed a Caesar Salad as much as this one - lovely flavours, the... More

Owners were really nice and service was quick. Coffee was great and the smashed avocadoes on toast is a must!

After spotting this place on an afternoon walk, we came back two days later for lunch. We were more than impressed with this place! It looked like the manager served us and he was more than lovely, especially when we had a problem with a meal. Everything was fresh and delicious. Cannot wait to come back!

Had enjoyable and very satisfying meals here on two occasions while in Melbourne. Plenty of atmosphere in Desgraves Street but other restaurants we tried fell well short of this happy place.

Il Tempo means Its The Right Time.... To visit us and experience our casual Italian cafe with the friendliest, most courteous staff in Melbourne.

Established in 2000 and conveniently located in Degraves Street, just across from Flinders Street Station.

Whether you choose to dine outside (Alfresco) or inside the European style bistro, Il Tempo cannot be beaten for authentic Italian cuisine, reasonable prices and a fun ambience.

Yes, the cozy, dimly lit atmosphere makes it difficult to want to leave and head home after dinner, but luckily, we are opened late.. So we suggest you sit back and relax and slowly sip that wonderful Chianti from our extensive wine list. Or maybe we will tempt you with one of our famous desserts...

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
