Walked past last night on the way to somewhere else. Quickly sighted menu and said we would go back tonight, so extremely happy we did. Amazing service, atmosphere and out of this world flavoursome food very reasonably priced. Felt really welcomed and valued as a customer. Do yourself a favour and pop in and try for yourself you will not... More

I took forever to devise my choice of meal here, too many tasty looking options, but in the end I am glad I went with the Lamb and Tzatziki pizza, it was really flavoursome. I only managed to eat half, they kindly boxed the remainder for me to take back to my apartment. I also got the obligatory cappuccino, this... More

On a recent trip to Melbourne 3 of us had dinner here on a miserable Sunday night. This wasn't initially our first choice but having walked into another cafe close by and being told rather rudely to wait outside in the rain,we came here and we're so glad we did!! The waiter couldn't have been friendlier or more enthusiastic! He... More

I ate at Il Tempo not once, not twice, but three times in one week! That, alone, should say something. The food is very good - fresh pasta and other ingredients make all the difference in the world. Second, the service is outstanding. The staff stand in the laneway and welcome you to the restaurant with open arms. The terrific... More

Love the new menu. Ordered the seafood soup as a starter. It was so full of fresh fish, prawns and calamari that it was more than enough as a main!. My partner had the Antipasto. .... same....more than enough. So we went straight to sweets...another taste sensation...home made cheesecake and possibly Melbourne's best Tiramisu. Definately going back.

We had breakfast here yesterday and was so good we came back again today. Not a huge menu, but what was there was magnificent. Great coffee, terrific and attentive service. Located in an intimate little lane. Rather cool but had outdoor heaters going.

Our waiter reminded us of 'Manuel' in many ways, slightly bumbling, uncoordinated, making small unimportant mistakes, though he was full of good humour. We spent the night smiling as Shane went about his business. The food we ate was wonderful, garlic and rosemary focaccia (our lovely waiter bought us bowls of chilli to add to the bread and our pizza),... More

We were looking for another restaurant that used to be where the second Il Tempo is now. Not having enough time to go elsewhere we stayed and had a meal at the original Il Tempo opposite. The menu is limited as is the wine list. However the waiter was attentive and fun! Might try the pasta one next time at... More

Not a fan of the garlic bread with cheese on it but others may. I had a pasta with fresh tomato, asparagus and anchovies which tasted great. The pear and walnut salad is great also. Service is great to boot so well worth a try. Specials today were $15 so great value also.

Il Tempo means Its The Right Time.... To visit us and experience our casual Italian cafe with the friendliest, most courteous staff in Melbourne.

Established in 2000 and conveniently located in Degraves Street, just across from Flinders Street Station.

Whether you choose to dine outside (Alfresco) or inside the European style bistro, Il Tempo cannot be beaten for authentic Italian cuisine, reasonable prices and a fun ambience.

Yes, the cozy, dimly lit atmosphere makes it difficult to want to leave and head home after dinner, but luckily, we are opened late.. So we suggest you sit back and relax and slowly sip that wonderful Chianti from our extensive wine list. Or maybe we will tempt you with one of our famous desserts...

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
