We were walking in the city about dinner time and stumbled across 'The Sherlock Holmes' we were pleasantly surprised by this small quaint pub... The food was above average in taste, flavour and portion sizes. The staff were friendly and well versed regarding their beers. My wife who is not a big beer drinker loved the 'London Glory' however I... More

Haven't been in here for many years but still the same reliable service, menu and beer. Just the place to go when you need a cold beer and a bite to eat. There is something on the menu for everyone.

Our 15 year old son ordered the ribs and they were delicious. Very tender. Tried a few of the 19 beers on top and thoroughly enjoyed them all. Can highly recommend any of the 6 ales we tried

A bit out of the main CBD area, but a short stroll up Collins Street toward Spencer Street, down stairs you find this English pub. Great food, good service, authentic decor, and a good night out. Google the menu, go check it out. We will return.

Only drawback is stairs to enter - not for wheelchair users. Jet lag had us on the hop early and we'd walked a fair bit then found this little doorway with Sherlock sign outside, thought we would seek refreshment. While not the cheapest place we ever visited, the staff could not do enough to squeeze us in (lots of reservations... More

For those who are yearning for a little piece of Britain this pub is definitely a perfect fix! The staff are ever so friendly and great service! The meals are reasonably priced and are decent sized as well. If you are yearning for a pint of an alcoholic beverage they have a great selection of English Ales and there is... More

I love this hidden gem. A lovely English country pub right in the heart of the city. The menu is good, and reasonably priced, it tastes great too. The pies, roasts and burgers are delicious and the service is fantastic every time. I'd book to avoid disappointment. This is a must for great British food.

My partner and I went here for dinner and a pint on a Tuesday evening. First, Tuesdays are trivia night; if you aren't there early you won't get a seat until after trivia wraps up at 20:30. The sign outside is clearly hung above a set of carpeted steps that lead down. There is a bar with tables situated around... More

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
