It was probably about 4 1/2 stars but just not quite 5. The staff, amazingly from 18 different countries, were all friendly and you could tell they loved being there; it's such a good atmosphere in that respect. We started off with twice cooked lamb ribs with chilli jam and loved them and then moved onto beef cheeks. We felt... More

Attended a function in the lovely function room they have there. When they served the appetiser they placed a number of plates with about 4 items on it in front of us but didn't explain to us how many pieces each so it was very confusing with people not knowing how much to take. Of course people missed out didn't... More

For an "award winning" restaurant this was such a huge disappointment! The food was great but the service was the worst we have received in a very long time! They were clearly understaffed and with multiple waiters coming and going from our table it shouldn't have taken us asking four times for a side of chilli before it came out.... More

Red Spice is always amazing and at the top of my list for must go to restaurants in Melbourne. The food, staff and atmospheric is sensational. Make sure you try the banquets but if your after one dish that is a must have then get the pork belly! There really is nothing to say except eat here. If you are travelling... More

Last time I was here the staff were quite rude and pretentious however I was surprised this time to find out waitress so lovely and attentive. She engaged in conversation and constantly checked on us to refill drinks. I like the big long tables and how you are seated next to other families. We met a lovely group from Vanuatu... More

We went for lunch and had the express banquet. The food and service was great. Pork belly was delicious and cooked to perfection and the other two dishes we chose weren't far behind. Red Spice Road has become a favourite of ours and we will no doubt be going back soon!

Went there Sunday evening after attending the footy. The place was mostly empty. Tried to order a glass of wine and the waiter turned his nose up at the selection. We accepted a recommendation for a bottle which I've seen in bottle shops so I know the usual retail price, so we foolishly accepted without checking the restaurant price. The... More

Went here for one of the "express lunches" as part of the food and wine festival. All of our dishes were cooked perfectly, couldn't fault them. The pork belly was crispy and tender (I don't usually eat pork belly, but I loved it!!). We shared six dishes between two as well as a glass of wine for around $50-60 each.... More

Came here as part of the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival and it was great. From the minute we entered the service was inviting and continued efficiently through the day. Each part of the meal was as good as the last. The cured salmon was a standout. Fresh pieces of beautiful salmon with thinly sliced radish. The two mains, a... More

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
