Went here for an early dinner, and couldn't have been happier with our choice. I have to admit it is the first time I have had tapas, and will definitely not be my last. The cafe itself is absolutely gorgeous. Very small with old theatre style seats, and isnt really much to look at but is so old world and... More

What a vibe! This place is very central. Just up from Flinders street station and Federation Square. Very cosmopolitan. Seems to be open well into early morning and even does breakfast. The panini was crispy and the tiramisu was homemade and delicious! For dinner choose from a wide selection of tapas. 3 plates for $33. Chill out with wine. Great... More

Good place to stop for tapas, especially if you can sit at the tables outside. We stopped for a quick snack and a sangria on the way out for the evening.

There are many nice cozy cafe on the Degrave street. I had breakfast on the street several times during I stayed in Melbourne. The big breakfast in this cafe was the best, which includes bread, eggs, bacons, tomatos, and sausages. And coffee is also very nice. This place is always packed but if you have time I strongly recommend this... More

Came here twice during our recent trip to Melbourne. Food was absolutely delicious and the coffee was the best I had in Australia which is saying something! Service was a touch slow but quality of food and coffee made it worth the wait.

Located in a popular area and always busy, the espresso bar used to be a favorite of mine for a quick coffee before work. The food was fresh, service friendly and nice coffee. Today the service wasn't just bad, it was non existent. Staff continually pushed past me while ignoring not only me but the many others waiting to be... More

Degraves street is a Melbourne institution and probably a must-do on any trip to the city. The eponymous degraves espresso is one of the bigger cafes in the lane (although there are many others). The atmosphere on the small tables tucked under cover in the lane way is buzzing. Degraves has a lot of tables to cover and although it... More

I read a mix of reviews of this place so thought on my final day I'd give them a chance. They opened at 7am so at 7.10am I arrived for breakfast and I had to interrupt about four guys chatting, to ask if they were open. They tried to ignore me and then said "in about 10 minutes" as if... More

Not impressed by this coffee house. Our coffee was burnt, the service was slow, one waitress was very blunt and unfriendly. Meals had no flare or presentation. They only take cash.

Thank Claire L

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
