This is a small bustling cafe with outdoor seating in this narrow lane. It is just around the corner from Flinders Street station. Lots of choice for breakfast. Try the baked Spanish breakfast.

Ordered Ham and cheese croissant, carrot cake, brownie and coffee. The brownie came first, followed by carrot cake with ice cream then the coffee. Enquirer twice after the savoury croissant - you really don't want ice cream, brownie etc before savoury food. Fifteen/ twenty minutes passed so we cancelled the croissants had the coffee and sweet stuff and left. Found... More

Stopped here for breakfast before exploring the city. Very good menu with a range to suit all tastes and budgets. Coffee was good. Plenty of dining options in the area but we were pleased with our choice. Comment from the kids "beautiful breakfast dad".

I needed a half hour to chill, do a sudoku, nibble on something but not too much and have some wine (well actually it was 2). Normally these places spruik for your business but I must've arrived just before they started which is good because I dislike spruikers. This gorgeous Espresso Bar is in the every funky Degraves Street which... More

This place is eclectic. The service is always upbeat, and the decor is melbourne cool. Lovely coffee and friendly staff on hand. Good for lunch/brunch. Having done both here at various times. Great place to sit to watch Melburnians walk by.

Had the big breakfast. It was very tasty, and the hot drinks were good. Staff were very friendly. They accept cash only, but an ATM is nearby. The music in here is very lounge, of the volume you'd expect in a night time bar. Not the most relaxing of music for breakfast, and the staff kept turning it up and... More

We had planned to do one of the self guided walking tours in Lonely planet, which goes through Collins Street, Degraves Street, Hosier Lane and AC/DC Lane, when we found this cafe. We kept coming back to Degraves Street (closer to Flinders Street Station and next to Young and Jackson pub) and decided to start this walking tour from Degraves... More

Went here for an early dinner, and couldn't have been happier with our choice. I have to admit it is the first time I have had tapas, and will definitely not be my last. The cafe itself is absolutely gorgeous. Very small with old theatre style seats, and isnt really much to look at but is so old world and... More

What a vibe! This place is very central. Just up from Flinders street station and Federation Square. Very cosmopolitan. Seems to be open well into early morning and even does breakfast. The panini was crispy and the tiramisu was homemade and delicious! For dinner choose from a wide selection of tapas. 3 plates for $33. Chill out with wine. Great... More

Good place to stop for tapas, especially if you can sit at the tables outside. We stopped for a quick snack and a sangria on the way out for the evening.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
