Have heard good reviews about Degraves Espresso Bar, therefore went hunting for it. I was rather taken aback as I felt as if I was transported back in time...in a good way. Love the interior of the place. Enjoyed their big breakfast, the sausage was fantastic and the coffee was good. My friend had their Signature French Toast, yummyyyy!!! The... More

Loved the tapas here. Great laneways experience. We popped in with our family at the end of a long day of enjoying Melbourne. We had tapas in groups of three, their special. The staff were friendly and efficient. Service is quick too.

Busy but good food. It was a relatively busy night, but they are able to cope with the ebb and flow of customers. The service was great, the food was nice, overall, al really nice experience.

Compact classical Melbourne style with great espresso coffee and food. The place is an eclectic collection of mismatched tables & chairs, even a church pew cut in half!

If you are rushing for time, this will be the cafe to go to. Fast and quick meals or to go! Breakfast prior to the mad rush to beat the office time! The inside sitting is a little clamped but outside offers more seats.

I have gone to degraves espresso for the past decade and it pretty much hasn't changed, which is a good thing. It's far from perfect but slightly comforting. There's a nice atmosphere of young creative, conventionally alternative types who smoke too many cigarettes outside. You don't want to sit inside as it's noisy and the seats are very hard and... I love squeezing in to this tiny hole in the wall at a table with mismatched chairs! The coffee is excellent and the food is great. No matter how packed it is, the service is fast and friendly.

It was our first time at Degraves Street and we decided to try out Degraves Espresso Bar for dinner. Food was alright - we tried the Risotto (a little bland), Paella and Lamb Shank. Service was ok could have been better but first time experience dining in the middle of a lane was good.

I recently had calamari and a glass of wine at Degraves Espresso Bar. The atmosphere inDegraves Street is fantastic, and so was the calamari. The bar does however have a small wine list which is a little disappointing. The staff were friendly but the service was not the best. We had a to call the staff over a number of... More

Service was terrible. There was clearly no communication between kitchen and wait staff. Order the Chicken Parma, it was sent to the wrong table. It was then eaten by another customer. Upon enquiring the third time, a waiter was able to tell me that there was a mix up and now they were all out of Parma's. I then ordered... More

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
