Back in it's hey day E'cco was one of the best restaurants in Brisbane and I was keen to eat there again. Sadly I think it's had it's day. Perhaps it's due to Philip Johnson not being there (least he wasn't when we ate there) but the entire experience was very disappointing. Food looked interesting on the menu but on... More

Huddled away on Boundary St, an understated facade belies the gastronomic epiphanies being prepared inside. The five course tasting menu is stunningly constructed, with balanced dishes that rise theatrically to a crescendo of taste and presentation. The cured trout with oyster emulsion, elderflower, cucumber and buttermilk was delicate, with bursts of acidity tempering the trout, however I did find the... More

My friend and I tried Ecco for the first time after work on a Wednesday night. The atmosphere in the restaurant was lively and the service was attentive and relaxed. The food was fantastic and was presented in a sophisticated style. Similarly, the wine recommendations from our waiter were well informed and met our respective tastes. But the most outstanding... Last Saturday my partner and I celebrated our birthdays at E'cco. We had the tasting menu with matched wines. The meal and matched wines was sensational - cured ocean trout with oyster emulsion etc was subtle and sublime, as was the agnolotti, jerusalem artichoke velour, smoked truffle etc and a perfectly paired wine Black Cottage Marlborough 2015. Staff were professional,... More

The best restaurant I have been to in Brisbane. The service was brilliant, very accommodating happy staff. The Chefs at E'cco need a pay rise. Their food is spectacular, confident and sophisticated. And just downright delicious. I actually wish we had have sat at the bar to watch them. We had the tasting menu with pared wines. Absolutely worth the... More

From the moment we stepped foot into the restaurant we were made to feel like we were in the company of old friends. The food was delicious. Cooked to our preference. The service was swift, polite and well timed. However, it was maitre'd Mary that made the evening. She was genuinely interested in who we were and why we had... More

Dinner last night, been going on and off since opening night nearly 20 years. Lovely wait staff, average food. Wagyu tongue overpowered by sauce and crab pasta mushy conglomerate. Desert disappointing. Not the same E'cco - a pity. Bring back fresh and simple and beautiful please.

We came to this place with high expectation, because it's rewarded by good food. I have to say the food was nice. The beef we ordered showed the pink color, but it was a little dry when I ate it. We also tried three different desserts and they were amazing. However, the service was pretty average. Overall, it's a nice... More

I'd heard it was good, but it was amazing. Just the right amount of food in the degustation so you didn't feed overfull. Great matching wines, lovely service. Up there with Quay, Tets, Sepia, Attica and Vue!

To much anticipation by Philip Johnson's strong local following, e'cco bistro opened its doors in 1995, starting what has turned out to be a Brisbane landmark restaurant. Located in an historic building on the fringe of Brisbane's central business district, the century old former tea warehouse oozes with character an ambiance. Almost twenty years on, e'cco underwent a total refurbishment in October of 2014, giving it a contemporary look, yet preserving the inviting, warm bistro feel that has stood the test of time.

As Philip says "We do as little as possible with the best ingredients available."
