I am a Malaysian living in Sydney. If I have Malaysian street food craving, I would always go to Mamak. The food is extremely delicious and it tasted exactly how it is cooked in Malaysia. Fast service once you have ordered even though there is a queue to get in. My tummy is absolutely very happy after i pay Mamak... More

Ok, i admit....when we walked by here at night on a Tuesday night, the boyfriend and inwere taken aback with thr long queue of people waiting to dine here. We read promising reviews and came here on our last night in Sydney. When we arrived there was no queue so we were seated quickly. Oh, if you get the roti... More

Four of us had a rather late dinner around 11pm after seeing a show. We ordered five dishes and within a few minutes four of five dishes were on the table! The fifth dish was some chicken kebabs which were freshly grilled and came with a great sweet and spicy sauce. Food was all incredibly aromatic and flavoursome.

No words describe this place. I went here twice in a week. The roti canai is excellent, the mee goreng is excellent as is the maggi goreng. The fried chicken is also crispy, spicy, and yum. But the desserts. Oh my. The roti bom is heaven in a plate - deliciously sweet and with icecream, it's absolutely perfect. The queues... More

The wait in the cue was quite long so don't bother if your starving and need food quickly! Food and the service was excellent, this was my third time here and will go again.

We were the first to get seated and the last to be served. We asked numerous times for our drinks, but were brushed off each time. The food was good, but wouldn't return because of the service.

I had dinner here in April during a quick trip to Sydney. There's a line out the front but the line was actually fun and people walk past and ask "why the line? What is going on?" Makes you feel like you know a well-kept secret. While in the line, be hypnotized by the chefs hand-making roti in front of... More

We arrived just after 5:30 Sunday night, but the queue was already around twenty deep. Sunday night is apparently the busiest night. Not wanting to miss out again, we arrived before 11:30 the next day and secured a table as soon as Mamak opened. We kept things simple, ordering roti with dips and the chicken satay. Both were wonderful and... More

Probably not. It's good food. Good roti, good variety, great curry and reasonably priced. Packed in like sardines which is not unusual for Asian restaurants, but I like a bit of space to eat. The line out the front shouldn't deter you, as even with 15 in the queue you will only have a 10 minutes wait. I'm a once... More

Staying in Chinatown

Neighborhood Profile
Chinatown
Tiger-flanked archways on Dixon Street mark the entrance to the “little Asia” of Sydney. A walk through Chinatown is a feast for the senses where aromas, tastes, sounds and visions of dancing tigers transport you to a different world. Chinatown visitors can expect a melting pot of Asian food at the neighborhood's specialty delis and groceries. From yum cha to handmade noodles, BBQ ducks hanging in the window to Asian sweets and bakeries, there is something for all tastes. Paddy’s Markets is the largest flea market in Sydney where you can find souvenirs, clothing, gifts and fruit and vegetables at unbeatable prices. At night, Chinatown comes alive with entertainment including theater, nightclubs and bars that are open until the early morning.
