SPECTACULAR SUNSET VIEWS!!! Come early to enjoy cocktails and watch the sunset. During prime mealtimes, you cannot have a civilized dinner conversation here. The hardwood floors and semi open-air layout amplifies the noise. The restaurant opens out into Darling Harbour and is only covered with screens to keep birds out during the daytime. When not full, the restaurant's decor looked... More

Malaya delivered on all aspects of the dining experience. Several of our party were late to arrive but this was no issue for the staff. We took advantage of the extensive wine & drinks list and we were all delighted with the choices available for food, especially the one vegetarian in our party who had one of the best meals... More

I happened by chance to come across this restaurant, the menus looked good and I thought why not? It did not disappointed, the food was delicious and was traditionally Malay. The staff were great, very polite and courteous. I would highly recommend this restaurant if you fancy a nice waterfront view and awesome Malaysian food. Try a couple of cocktails.... More

Terrible experience, waiter dropped food on my shirt. Fake chicken used in the dish. Duty manager very rude when we complained. Staff have no concept of customer service. Avoid this place.

First of location is nice situated in darling harbour. Not much wrong with the food at all. Quick service even with busy restaurant. Quantity of food is great and would suggest choosing plates to share. It is a tad on the expensive side but in my opinion worth the experience.

The Malaya has long been an institution along King Street Wharf. Returning recently for a Friday lunch I was reminded why it remains a standout. Warm and friendly service, terrific atmosphere and a great location. If you've never dined at The Malaya I highly recommend the Banquet menu. You'll sample a large and great range of their signature dishes (portions... More

This restaurant is mid to high end. Reservations are recommended. The staff were attentive. The food was of a high standard. Wet recommend the Kapitan prawns and sechuan eggplant.

I got a table here on a Wednesday night. The place was completely full. I had the Short Soup - steamed dumplings - followed by the Beef Rendang. The Beef was exquisite- braised and tender with the most delicious marinade/sauce.

After a long day a business group of 30+ arrived for dinner. They seated us separately which was good and the drinks came out fairly well given the size of the group. We had advised them I was allergic to garlic when booking. When checking with me before the meal they asked me if I was allergic or don't like... More

Staying in Darling Harbour

Neighborhood Profile
Darling Harbour
The original docklands of Darling Harbour have been transformed into a tourist mecca with entertainment for the whole family. Cockle Bay Wharf offers dining options from budget to upscale and million dollar views of the harbour. Young crowds gather on weekends for nightlife that ranges from salsa clubs to DJ's. Families can visit the Chinese Garden of Friendship or the Sydney Aquarium, one of the largest in the world. The Australian National Maritime Museum and the IMAX theatre are also popular attractions. The Harbourside Shopping Centre is a site unto itself, with hundreds of shops, restaurants and bars. On Saturdays in the summer, the city puts on a spectacular fireworks show along the harbour's shore and there are plenty of other free events during the year - Darling Harbour Fiesta, VIVID’s light installations and the Sydney Festival, just to name a few.
