For years this has been my go-to place when i order cakes for Birthdays or special occasions. The most delicious and visually beautiful desserts and cakes on offer. Some of my favourites are the chocolate eclair, strawberry tart and Gateaux Opera. The cakes i have custom ordered (in larger sizes) for special occasions include: Mille Feuilles (surprisingly easy to cut... More

I went to the cafe in hopes of enjoying a pastry and coffee. Being it is my first time in Sydney, from America, I was still learning the culture. The lady working there couldn't care less. She was extremely rude and the food and coffee was just okay. Definitely nothing special. Not worth the trip.

Was walking past La Renaissance after lunch in Sydney and was drawn to the amazing looking cakes in the window so just had to stop by. Me and my friend shared one (can't remember the name of the cake but it had white chocolate and raspberries) as well as 2 soft drinks and although expensive (for a individual cake) it... More

Had Monet cake. It was very delicious, smooth and melt in mouth. Can't wait to visit it again to try other cakes.

Loved this tiny place- took me forever to decide which little perfectly presented cake I should choose. I knew coffee was strong before I even tasted it- just the aroma and milk froth looked perfect. Staff was invisible. Had a seat in the little courtyard at the back- cheeky colourful parakeet tried to steal our food:)

Found this by accident. Very good coffee and wonderful Danish. Tried the veal sausage roll and a ham and cheese croissant with sauce. Great flavor and delicate pastry.

Just up the way from Circular Quay's cruise ship area, on Argyle Street in "The Rocks" section of Sydney, you'll find this delightful French bakery. They have both sidewalk café seating out front and a hidden garden area out back. The garden area can be accessed via either the store or a nearby lane. This was our "go to" for... More

Have been here several times and will continue to do so. Pastries are to die for and coffee excellent. Herself had a tea and it came exactly as requested! The courtyard has great ambience and a quiet space in a busy place.

The food - sweet or savoury, is absolutely divine. The most beautiful array of cakes, delicious coffee and mouth watering sausage rolls/pies. This is the place to eat in the rocks whether you stop for lunch or mid morning/afternoon coffee!

Welcome to La Renaissance! We are one of Sydney's oldest family-owned French patisseries, and the first in the Southern Hemisphere to be awarded the prestigious Relais Desserts status with our head chef and co-owner Jean Michel Raynaud.

Each morning we serving fresh buttery pastries, hot coffee & tea, juice, savouries and cakes every day. A great place to recharge and relax if you're new to Sydney and exploring Circular Quay and The Rocks, or a favourite for locals.

Our best-selling items include almond croissants and the Monet, a white chocolate mousse cake with lychee jelly, raspberries and coconut base. Cult favourite, the ham and cheese croissant, sells out daily as well, with a shredded ham & cheese bechamel inside and on top of the croissant. Baked until crisp but still a little soft inside... we say yes please!

Staying in The Rocks

Neighborhood Profile
The Rocks
The first residents of the Rocks were convicts and sailors from the old nation. As the oldest neighborhood in the city, the area's cobblestone streets host more than 100 heritage sites and buildings, including the oldest house in Sydney, Camden Cottage, which was built in 1816. Taste a “midi “ or a “schooner” of beer and dine “al fresco” on the waterfront at some of the oldest pubs in Sydney. The weekend markets at the Rocks are where you can find local artists' hand-made souvenirs, organic food and designer jewelry in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. To enjoy some of the best Australian and international contemporary art, the MCA museum is open every day and select evenings. At the end of a long day of sightseeing, be sure to save energy to dance the night away at the area's many late night entertainment venues.
