Been before, excellent food and OK service. Huge portions so if in doubt order one less main course across a big group. Good menu and lots of options. Set menu could be better but we will be back.

The only Chinese restaurant on the main strip heading to the Opera house. Granted this is premium space with views to match, so I guess, the price of the dishes reflects this. The average price for a main dish is between $30 to $40 per dish and about $2.50 per person for tea. The main course is not a generous... More

The food is as good as one gets at an average suburban Chinese restaurant but at about $20 per plate extra . The service was excellent as we had a time limit to eat before a nearby event and the did all very quickly or us ( and I suppose for them as tat liberated the large table . would... More

I booked on line - waited 24 hours, heard nothing... so phoned them... they had no record of the reservation... luckily they did have a table... but it's a bad system, so it's best not to use it. The food at East is way better than the reservation system!

We had dinner at the East prior to seeing a Vivid performance at the Opera House. It was a very wet night and not much else was open. The service was good and the food was excellent!

So was there last night for Vivid. Now I understand that it was busy but there is no excuse for what I'm about to tell you. We had to queue to get in. Fair enough. We only waited 20-30 minutes. It wasn't that long. We were then seated at a table outside which was lovely. After 20 minutes I had... More

We were aiming to go to another restaurant but they were closed for renovations so we decided on this one. Yum! Staff were a little austere and serious but the food very good. Magic chicken, salt & pepper squid and green spicy beans .... Yum Yum Yum!!!! Coffee at the end was nice flavoured but a bit cool.

We, being a family of 7, went to Vivid on Friday along with thousands (and thousands) of others. We queued at The East thinking there was no way we would get an unbooked table for 7. But we were wrong. Out came a table top to go on a smaller table, on went a cloth and all ready to go.... More

The restaurant is located in the East Circular Quay. Most of the restaurant is indoor and without a decent view. We went on a cold rainy night so it suited our purpose. The banquet is decent. Plenty to eat and a good quality. The king prawns and the salt and pepper squid were great. The rest of the menu was... More

We went to The East on a warm sunny evening at the end of May 2016, we loved the soft shell crab so much that we went back the next evening and had soft shell crab again, this time served in a sauce. The staff welcomed us back and we loved their food and service both nights. So good to... More

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
The Sydney Central Business District is abuzz with energy. Power brokers run to and from high rise buildings and after-work drink places, high-end shoppers tour venues like the QVB, and fine diners frequent the many celebrity chef restaurants. For a dose of culture, walk to the NSW Art Gallery, or visit the Sydney Museum. To escape the hustle and bustle, reconnect with nature at the Sydney Botanical Gardens or picnic lunch at High Park. No matter your interest, be sure to check the full calendar of events hosted by the city, from the Sydney Festival in January to October’s Good Food Month at Hyde Park.
