I didn't enjoyed my experience at Lantern. I think the fish was not fresh and the flavour was not that tasty.. Mussels were really not good. The meat was hard. The coconut dessert was good. Too expensive for the level. The wine list is poor. Few beers available. Cocktails are expensive and very small in quantity..just ice..

Just a quick call out to Pauline, Mark, Luke and the entire team at Red Lantern here in Sydney. Thank you for an absolutely fabulous lunch recently (or should that be a very long lunch?!). I took some of our staff out to celebrate and acknowledge a team members work anniversary. The service and food was impeccable throughout our long... More

Given the fame of a certain part owner, the expectations were high. Too high, I guess. 3 of us tried the Hanoi Hunger tasting menu, $75 without sweets. The 8 courses were generally well executed though some of the combinations seemed a tad too try-hard for me. For example it is difficult to see what the (excellent) oven baked pork... More

I visited the Red Lantern some time ago when it was at the top of Crown St - it was expensive but worth every cent. The location, the ambiance were both fantastic and the food was sensational. So I thought it would be good to visit again and bring the family - I will be short: The booths are too... More

Took a dear friend to celebrate her 50th birthday and we chose well. The food was authentic, fresh and vibrant. The decor warm and welcoming and the service faultless. Thank you for a great evening!

I made one of Luke Nguyen's recipes at home and was really impressed. My partner had been to his original restaurant in Crown Street, so we decided to check out his 'new' (it's 4 years old now) one in Riley Street. To start with the decor and ambiance is stunning. Lighting was perfect. There's the a la carte menu and... More

Greeted by warm friendly smiles as soon as we walked through the door, I loved the dimmed lights and décor, it feels so cozy and almost like you've walked into a friend's house for dinner! Tables are neatly set and staff a quick to attend to you straight away! Food is amazing!..so much flavor and variety, the only problem was... More

Excellent Food, ambience and service. What more could you ask for? We had the lesser tasting menu and it was more than we could all eat. The food was very good, excellent flavours, textures and presentation. Don't expect to get the ubiquitous range of coffees. They only have their own brew floating on a thin layer of condensed milk. I... More

I love this restaurant. If you want the Vietnamese street food experience, that is sitting on plastic chairs and no fancy trims - then this is not for you. This is a classy little restaurant with 5 star food and service. It is what I classify as gourmet rather than street food. It has a new function room out the... More

Staying in Darlinghurst

Neighborhood Profile
Darlinghurst
Home of the small bar revolution in Sydney, Darlinghurst has more bars per capita than any other suburb. Themes range from American whiskey bars and 1950’s theme bars to hidden bars requiring secret passwords. Oxford Street is the "Gay Capital" of Australia, where gay and lesbian-friendly venues feature “diva shows” and dancing until the morning. Vintage lovers flock to Crown Street, and small designer boutiques can be found along Victoria and Bourke Streets. Dining in Darlinghurst is a gastronomic adventure. Food from all over the world is on the menu, from American ribs to tapas, sushi to gelato and every ethnicity in between.
