Been coming back here (live around the corner) for a few years - 5 years plus??? The place runs 'hot and cold' on the service front. For a pub restaurant, the prices aren't cheap or even reasonable(2 kids meals/2 adults meals inc 4 adult drinks circa $130+). Went here tonight with my 2 kids on a whim. Nobody seated us.... More

Congenial local with homely, welcoming feel. Staff remind me of the sisters I never had. Caramelised garlic bread was scrumptious, albeit not conventional. Vampires present no threat tonight, laden with mooshy, sweetness. Wagyu sausages, peas, mash & chutney particularly tasty, albeit the snags looked more like kransky. Heirloom tomatoes with shredded buffalo mozzarella a bit tasteless. The pork ribs were... More

Had a shocking experience on Sunday night. Arrived at 530pm and there was only one group in the dining area. We were seated and I left my family to settle in while I went to the bar (wife, 8yo and 6 month old). Came back to find we were being moved to kitchen area as a group table had been... More

We shared an entree platter with lovely figs, prosciutto, feta, lightly pickled cucumbers, salami and great pate and toast. I then had a juicy, perfectly cooked steak with delicious home made mushroom sauce and great mash. Interesting side dish was peas with feta. Attentive service and pleasant atmosphere. Fairly busy for a Monday night.

Friends invited us for a Sunday lunch at the restaurant in The Royal Oak hotel pub, the restaurant is located at one end of the pub it was like being in a completely different place. It's also accessible from the street further down from pub main entrance, on arrival there were plenty of tables and room available. Food range was... More

I've dined at the Royal Oakes before. Some mates, a few beers, rugby, a steak and red wine. Fantastic, To celebrate my wife's recent milestone birthday, my wife, daughter and I trundled off for a Monday night dinner celebration. The restaurant was about 1/2 full, and the service was both relaxed and attentive. The food was excellent too. Crispy fried... More

We spent New Year's Eve here in a party of 12 friends and family. (31/12/2015). A very friendly, proper pub, with a restaurant attached. The food and service were great, and also very reasonably priced for this very upmarket suburb. Afterwards it was only a short walk to the waterfront park with uninterrupted views to the Sydney Harbour Bridge and... More

I doubt I would have been able to find pubs like this in the days before the internet, unless of course I was really familiar with the area (and as it turns out there were heaps of pubs in Adelaide that I had no idea existed until the internet came along). It is located in one of the back streets... More

We had a 40th in the upstairs area...great where you can have entire level for your own group. A full bar and great canapés to go along with. The staff were nice and friendly. Lots of tables and chairs or couches to relax in and also in an easy to get to location just off the main drag. Plenty of... More

Ambience great, service ok, food very ordinary. We ordered four separate dishes all of which were either tasteless or cheap cuts of meat. Example was the veal shanks- ' skinny' shanks with a gnocchi that was like polystyrene - likely frozen and re heated. Wouldn't return- balmain is a Mecca of great pubs- and the royal oak is below par.
