Today in the Bookplate café I was delighted to find friendly staff, a beautiful renovation including comfortable chairs (the others were too high), and delicious coffee and Danish pastry. I highly recommend sitting near the stained glass windows on a sunny morning. There was a bad spot last year when service was unfriendly and the water containers were sitting on... More

We have dined at the Bookplate cafe/restaurant often and always enjoyed the atmosphere and meals. Most recently was our first visit since their re opening after some renovation work. The new look is lovely! Fresh, contemporary yet warm and inviting. Disappointing though was the breakfast menu which consists of half a dozen choices most being variations on eggs! A natural... Visited for Saturday lunch at 2.30pm. Most lunch items and cakes were sold out. Ordered quiche and did not receive the type we ordered. Waiter was not interested in resolving this. Ordered a glass of wine that never came and had to argue to receive it. Would not return. It's a shame as in the past this cafe was a... More

In summary - coffee's good, there are better places for food & service at other locations around the lake. So - the location is great - The National Library near Canberra's central Lake Burley Griffin. Inside is cosy enough with no view but nice stain glass windows; and most people will struggle outside in a Canberra winter. The service was... More

What is better than sitting beside those Leonard French stained glass windows with the sun streaming through, drinking coffee?

Came to eat at bookplate for mothers day. Was a delightful first visit to the restaurant, the staff provided us great service- they told us they had dropped our squid and corn fritter so the chef in apology cooked spares for us and also gave us an extremely delicious cake for this apology. The price is affordable and the quality... More

We have been pretty critical of Bookplate previously but it's great to be able to report a significant improvement. Dropped in with a friend during a lap around the lake and was very pleasantly surprised with the menu and the food. We had corn fritters and bao buns and an Asian side salad. All delicious. For both of us including... More

It was by pure chance that we ended up at the National Library and the Bookplate Cafe. But as we know unplanned events often turn out to be real winners. The menu covered a broad variety of tastes, with staff bein very accepting of changes to suit individual preferences. Something often absent from other establishments. Menu prices were very good... Best coffee in the CBD and they do a great lunch special. Sit outside and enjoy the view or inside near the stain glass windows.

This is a great place for lunch, just off the foyer of that great cultural institution, the National Library of Australia. The menu covers most tastes, the prices are not outrageous and the service is prompt. The staff are friendly and helpful and there is a big of a buzz being amongst all the cultural treasures. You may need to... More
