We were reasonably satisfied with the food and service, but probably would go elsewhere next time. The menu is pretty limited and some of the options - pork pulled burger and chicken chimichanga - have very distinct and unusual flavours - not food options we would order again. There is always a long queue to order food, so be prepared... More

This is a bit of a hipster place and a bit overpriced, but if you can deal with that then its not bad. One of the few places in Canberra with a terrace overlooking the lake. If you appreciate that, then you should come here sometime. Parking is a bit overpriced and the parking attendants are like vultures so make... More

Yes, the place has a very pleasant atmosphere, yes the seating is good, and yes, the food is certainly good, and the wait staff are friendly. But, why do you need to wait for somebody to allocate you a seat/table, but then you have to go to the counter to order because being shown to a table is the limit... More

Bookplate is a great spot to enjoy a coffee or lunch when visiting the National Library and bookshop. We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch here recently. The staff were very pleasant & the menu selection was varied & the food very well presented.

I've been here a few times now and found them consistently good. Most recently for breakfast where I enjoyed they breakfast burger and Danish. The breakfast burger was huge with possibly the best tomato relish ever. The Danish was good, but not awesome. I've included photos of both. The burger was delicious. Difficult to eat but oh so yummy. Service... More

I abhor restaurants and cafes that make customers order at the counter. For the prices charged at Bookplate, table service is a must. The service itself was mixed. All staff were well presented and polite, especially the manager/supervisor. However, because everything was ordered at the counter on three separate orders, my breakfast arrived well before my coffee and everyone else's... More

Bookplate has been renovated since our last visit and there is now much-needed increased seating. There is still the need to line up to order but there is no longer the battle for somewhere to sit. The menu is reasonably varied and we enjoyed our meal and loved the academic and artistic ambience of the café. The proximity of the... More

Had a lovely lunch here with family recently. The menu has recently been changed and there appears to be something for all dietary requirements. The pumpkin salad was delicious. Servings are of good size and prices reasonable. I was really glad to see they sell local Canberra wines. If going for lunch, I recommend getting there a bit early to... More

Refurbished in recent years with great indoor and also lake facing outdoor seating the Bookplate is almost a Canberra institution for those who use or visit the National Library. There are always interesting free exhibitions at the Library as well as a large fabulous free magazine reading room. Located on the northeast corner of the ground floor the Bookplate has... More

I had breakfast here to avoid the overpriced stuff they serve up in the hotel I was staying at. Had some poached eggs and a couple of coffees. The cafe has delightful surroundings, with the lovely Leonard French windows. Service was pretty good, considering how busy they were. No complaints about the meal, would dine there again.
