A small group went for Sunday lunch because we had heard it was very good. What a disappointment! Tough topside of beef, carrots and potatoes that tasted as if they had been cooked the previous day and re-heated, "tenderstem" broccoli that was undercooked at the top and was nothing more than a thin "string" at the bottom, inedible because it... It makes such a difference to a meal when the surroundings are nice and the staff are friendly and pleasant! This exactly what we found just a few nights ago when we went to the Lord Nelson at Winthorpe for the first time ever! Living in Newark for less than a year, we are still ticking off places that we... More

We had heard this pub was dog friendly so arrived without booking. The friendly young staff gave us a very warm welcome and we had choices of sitting in the bar area or outside with our two dogs. The lunch menu was varied and delicious. We both had sandwiches - the fish finger ciabbata and pork, apple and cider gravy... More

Every meal was excellent. The... More

Waitresses were pleasant , however, the quality of food and the price did not match. We had Sunday Lunch, roast beef. The beef was tough, even the Broccoli was tough !! The Yorkshire pudding was more like a crispy dumpling. Did explain all this to the waitress when she asked " was everything all right " ? No response ! Now... More

Lunch with friends and pooch. Nice welcome, but menu not as advertised on website. Not the end of the world. Service ok. Food very flavoursome - but the portion size was shockingly small. Brisket chilli served in nice sized bowl full of rice - but the tiny blob of chilli can't have filled a desert spoon. All carb, no protein.... More

Have been meaning to trying this place since it re opened some months ago and so pleased we managed to get a table for Sunday lunch as we'd not booked. Restaurant area was comfortably busy, with great service and a good hearty Sunday lunch menu. Shared a starter (nelsons catch - - lovely mix of whitebait, calamari, prawns and scampi)... More

Description
The Lord Nelson at Winthorpe is a beautiful traditional English country pub, serving excellent food and a range of traditional ales, beer and cider. Set in the picturesque village of Winthorpe near Newark on the Nottinghamshire/ Lincolnshire border, and ideally situated for Newark Showground, the pub has a firmly established reputation. The bar has the feel of an old country house with squashy sofas, roaring fires, wooden floors and low beams.

Originally built in 1800s, the pub is a Grade II listed building, bordered by a beck and set in idyllic countryside. The Nelson has a large walled beer-garden, outdoor BBQ, two snugs, a large bar and a newly refurbished restaurant with doors opening out on to our garden. For business events, celebrations and functions, our opulent Private Dining room seats up to 14, and we host weddings and christenings. Whether it's a beer and a burger in the bar, chilling on a leather sofa in our snug with your laptop, free wifi and a glass of wine, or a special dinner celebration, we are delighted to serve you.

We're proud to be a part of Winthorpe village and to support our local community, including sourcing all of our food and produce from local Lincs & Notts suppliers. We're 100% dog and tiny-human-friendly; our canine pals are welcome in our bar and beer garden and children are welcome everywhere. Our mission is to make your visit as enjoyable as possible. We're fully equipped with free WiFi, high chairs for children, baby-changing facilities with nappy bin, a widescreen TV and a selection of magazines. There are picnic blankets for chilling in our garden, a large and enclosed space in which children can play safely.

We offer lunch Tuesday - Saturday from 12pm to 4pm, and dinner from 6pm to 9pm.
Our Sunday lunch is available 12pm - 4pm (we're closed for food on a Sunday evening).
