Another outstanding lunch at Od. We have been coming since it opened and it gets better and better. One of our favourite restaurants in the world. Expensive but worth it.

We were really disapointed by the tasting menu, it was unwell cooked and the flavours were not balanced. It didn’t worked toegether and we couldn’t finish the most of the plates. At the end of the dinner we had a bad aftertaste in the mouth...that we wanted to wash away with bread and olive oil, which to be faire were both really good! The location is great but even for European standarts we think the prices were innapropriate and too expensive for what they deliver in your plates.More
İ guarantee that you will have one of TOP culinary experiences of your enire life… And I bet you would never imagine that this was going to happen in Turkey… I have been many Michelin starred restaurants in the world but believe me, this place...has not only exceeded my expectation but also came out to be even better than many of those… Everything is Extremely delicious with top quality ingredients and with innovative twists with wonderfully friendly service!More
WOW! What a memorable evening! Gorgous setting in a beautiful Olive grove. Exquisite cuisine served like royalty. We ordered the sample menu and we were amazed by each gorgeously displayed and decadent plate. Each serving was introduced by the Chef who prepared it. We thoroughly...and utterly enjoyed our dinning experience and will never forget such splendid evening. I most highly recommend this unforgettable dinning experience. Must definitely try when in Urla.More
My first visit in 2020 didn’t go so well but I must say the experience is completely different the last couple of times we went to OD Urla. I have had the pleasure of hosting business and family guests in several occasions and can say...that his is THE place to host the perfect dinner. Highlights; 1) the booking experience, hassle free and easy 2) OD offers transfer pick ups for regular guests. A must if you plan on having some wine as Urla is notorious for police checkpoints and there is no taxi stops nearby (even though the restaurant is happy to organise a taxi). Being driven around in a Mercedes EV is ofc a treat… great thinking Merca and the OD management. 2) Arrival, top class organising and greeting… 3) Food, authentic with a twist. Even the top restaurants in Istanbul (and Europe) rarely comes close… 4) the service is simply impeccable. In a period where establishments are having a hard time keeping seasoned and experienced staff, OD somehow manages to maintain highly skilled staff with a huge smile on their faces. In short, a big thank you to the management but to the staff for turning each of my previous 5-6 visits to a tries experience.More
This has become a very popular restaurant in Urla. But it seems that the restaurant has began to believe in its own publicity. Service was avarege. The food generally good but not exceptional. The desert offer was poor. Whats annoyed us was having chosen an...award winning red Mozaik wine , we were told that it was full of tanens and the " somelier" suggested something else and of course at a high price. We thought the wine list was good but seriously over priced. We also decided to buy at the Mozaik wineyard and try the Mozaik wine we wanted to drink. There were no tanens in this 2012 beauty ?! We can only assume that the somelier was Just pushing high margin wines for greater profit. İn all, the restaurant is good but not 5 star- however nice a venue.More
Very exquisite atmosphere but extremely expensive not worth the trip. They also snub you instantly as if you have to ask for their permission to enter
Restaurant has an amazing atmosphere and then unique location between the leaf trees. It’s a huge place, little too crowded. Service is very good fast and you don’t have to search the waitress. Menu is very fine and small and different than the restaurants around...this region is very tasteful and portions are large enough to share as well. The only thing that bothered me the most is the toilets which needs to be cleaner, fresh and only 4 toilets for m & w is absolutely not enough. This is an issue for sure be solved. Price is high for the value. CheersMore
If you are in Izmir, Urla, Cesme you must make a reservation and try at least once OD URLA. It is in a secluded place surrounded by olive trees and mini garden where chef (who is also the owner) grows some of the vegetables there....The ambiant is super nice chic but not extravagant i.e it is a place for people appreciate good good not for people who wants to show off. The food was amazing. We took tasting menu and ordered few extra dishes seperately to share 3 people. They have also their own wines which was amazing. As a starter, we also took nice coctails called “kuzu kulagi” I am posting with delay but we visited the restaurant in 2020 AugustMore
Fabulous experience in every single way! Amazing food. Tasting menu is so original and every single course was delicious. Service was perfect. The ambiance is not like another - you can sit outside amongst olive trees and all the other herbs, greens and flowers that...they are growing in the garden. A perfect wine menu with a generous selection of Turkish wines and others. Can’t recommend enough.More
Here are the positives: -Great setting for a restaurant nestled inside an olive grove, service was punctual, the descriptions by the cook staff was to the point and appreciated. -Loved the OD URLA marked ice cubes in cocktails. -I asked for a favor and they...made me a Bourbon Sour which tasted great. -I also really like the OD URLA’s own medium bodied red wine. -Tour of the cellar was great, really impressive selection of wines/champagnes from all over the world and the sommelier was both knowledgeable and fun. Negatives: -There should be either more bathrooms for the ladies or all bathrooms should be marked unisex. -Music can make or break a restaurant and Kenny G. can easily break you at any location :) -We had the tasting menu. There is no reason that there should be 4 forks and 4 knives placed next to my plate. With all the servers they have, forks and knives should arrive with each course. -Just way too many employees working. At one point I counted 18 cooks at the open kitchen :) most of them idle. -I am not sure what the seating capacity is but it felt crowded, tables very close to each other, at times felt like I was at a cafe :( -About the tasting menu; repetitive, both in terms of presentation and taste. I liked the SAR-MA, the mozzarella appetizer, grilled fish and the lamb shank. I can’t even remember what the dessert was. The red pepper sorbet is not my favorite. I would have loved lavender, rosemary or pine nut instead but that’s just me. -I was really looking forward to the pasta dish. Even though it tasted OK, pasta was overcooked :( Will I go back? Yes, probably. I would limit my food choices and enjoy the wine/cocktail service and the surroundings.More
We are living in Istanbul and just to have dinner at Od, we traveled to Izmir. It was a nice experience although a little disappointed for the huge crowd. We were expecting a more cozy restaurant instead of a huge place with many tables. Actually...we ate the whole menu, and liked each one of them. A little disappointed with the desert. Overall, totally worth it.More
Last night we had dinner at Ma ,which is the sister seafood restaurant of Od . It was a bit of a disappointment for me. Od is so near to perfect , I expected a lot more from Ma . - I expected unique variety...of seafood whlch I could not find at other seafood restaurants . What I found was below my expectetions. - Ma’s wine collection was very good . We were very satisfied with the wine we drank . But white wine was served to us at warm glasses. The walter kept on pouring white wine on the warm wine in our glass , so we had to drink lukewarm wine the whole night. - The silverware was very standard silverware . I would have expected a bit better silverware from such a “ first class “ restaurant . - Aside from that , the service was good , They listened to our critisims . What we ate was good and delicious.More
An immersive restaurant experience from the outset: the immaculate herb gardens, the modern architecture and a full complement of impeccably dressed staff.... you definitely feel you are having an occasion, and most certainly “high class” on Turkish standards. We opted for the 8 course taster...menu, some dishes pleasant, some not so much, some had basic errors, but non of them outstanding! Based on the food experience, I thought the price tag excessive for Turkey. We had to slow down the speed of service at one point. Turkish restaurants need to aspire to the standards offered here at OD, and OD needs to aspire to refine its food if it wants the prestigious accolades in the world of gastronomy. However, I intend to return to savour the a la carte menu as I really want this restaurant to showcase it can excel and become a memorable experience!More
If you want the short and sweet review of what OD Urla is like, then it is a beautiful restaurant, with well dressed staff, stunning scenery, and some of the best food Urla has to offer. As far as dining experiences, and general food quality...goes - then yes it's a 5 star venue. However, this type of restaurant should not and can not be reviewed to the same standard as a Turkish Lokanta, or local casual meze restaurant... OD Urla is positioning itself as a Michelin quality restaurant, and so my review will be to this standard. Having dined at many Michelin star restaurants across the world, and countless Michelin guide restaurants, I believe this is a fair and constructive review of OD Urla. Staff: All of the staff were well presented and friendly. The chefs that explained each of the taster menu courses to our party were also very friendly, however their English explanation of each dish needs refining. The story of the dish was lost in translation and in my opinion required an accompanying menu pamphlet that details each dish and its local ingredients for restaurant patrons to read, discuss, and take home as a memento. In addition to this, there were 3 staff including a cloakroom attendant that watched me remove my suit jacket and put it on the back of my chair without any of them offering to help, or hang up in the cloak room. This lack of attention is a rookie mistake. Venue: The indoor chefs table dining, outdoor seating, and general decor were contemporary and stunning - it felt like I could have been in New York City. As you enter the premises and walk past the immaculately kept rows of herbs and flowers, the sense of high quality farm to table dining really sets in and invokes excitement for the experience you're about to have... Food: The general theme with all 8 of the taster menu dishes was inconsistency, and lack of quality control. Although the food was good, all but one dish requires further refining to be considered anywhere close to Michelin quality gastronomy. 1) OD Style Sarma This dish was essentially a deconstructed ‘Sarma' or stuffed vine leaves, with a yogurt foam. This dish was the worst of the evening, a mess in a bowl.... My rice was overcooked, where others at the table had perfect al dente texture. The roasted vine leaves mixed into the rice, and the crispy vine leaf garnish were completely lost by the overpowering yogurt foam. Moreover, the yogurt foam lacked any depth past putting yogurt in an espuma gun.... Overall, this dish needs reimagining, less is more. Too much yogurt and rice, not enough vine leaf flavour.... 2) Fresh buffalo cheese – bottarga – sorrel Once again, presentation lacking... This looked like what can only be described as cheese on wet lettuce. I'm also confused what the chefs purpose with this dish is, as all you can really taste is the buffalo cheese, which in itself was nothing special. The cured fish roe Bottarga was completely lost by the volume of cheese served, and drowned in the unmemorable green sauce. Some of the tarty lemon notes from the sorrel came through, but the bland sauce it was bathing in soon washed away any of the lingering natural fresh herbal flavours. The mint sorbet that accompanied this dish was tasty, and refreshing - however it had melted before getting to the table, and by the time we'd eaten our cheese it was practically a mint puddle. This should have come to the table after we had finished our main plate, this way it can be enjoyed properly and cleanse the palette before the next dish is served. 3) Cauliflower – white chocolate – open wood fired squid The smokey cauliflower purée was very tasty, however none of us could taste any white chocolate notes. The squid was also rubbery, but paired nicely with the purée - just needs better attention to cooking. 4) Catch of the day – vongole sauce with tarragon The tarragon sauce was delicious, highlight of the dish. The skin on my sea bass was also beautifully crispy, where everyone else's wasn't. The meat of my fish however was overcooked, and so unfortunately had dried out. The clams were also another example of neglect for quality control as all of us received 2 nice meaty clams, and 1 with barely any meat inside at all. This never should have made it's way onto a plate, and instead gone into a broth... 5) Roasted pepper sorbet Outstanding!! Consistency was more of a gelato than sorbet, but absolutely delicious nonetheless. Such an interesting and intense flavour profile that was refreshing whilst also reminiscent of eating 'acuka', a typical Turkish breakfast accompaniment. This is a fine example of refined traditional Turkish flavours... The only criticism is that the quenelle of the sorbet was covered in imperfections, this never should have left the kitchen. 6) Goose dumplings – cinnamon – blueberries The sweetness from the blueberries and cinnamon cut through the very rich gravy nicely. The flavours worked well together, however it's a shame we were only given forks to eat it with! There was no way to enjoy this lovely sauce... The dumplings themselves were ok, I absolutely love goose, and it's unfortunate there was more pastry than meat. Maybe that's just how Turkish dumplings (mantı) are meant to be, but to me it seemed like the pastry needed to go through the dough sheeter once or twice more... Maybe if I had a way to enjoy the dumplings with the sauce, I wouldn't mind the dense pastry. i.e. if we were given spoons. 7) Lamb – fennel leaf Inconsistency in presentation across the table. Some had what looked to be perfectly sliced and placed cuts of meat, where mine looked unappetising and covered in fat/gristle. The flavour was nice, however the fat was slimy and unpleasant. another member of our party had the same issue with theirs and ended up leaving some as a result. The accompanying purée was unmemorable. 8) OD style; ice-cream made with baklava – crispy baklava dough This was delicious, honestly the ice cream itself should be mass produced and sold worldwide it was that good. The pistachio paste blobs were also such an intense pistachio flavour that paired with the baklava ice cream outstandingly. The pastry shard was perfectly fluffy and light, while the crumble below the ice cream provided a perfect texture contrast. With this dish they also served the petit four, which the chef said was a piece of home made chocolate. What they meant to say was frozen ganache as that's what it was… This was unpleasant, however the chilli oil and salt that garnished it paired nicely with the bitterness of the chocolate - it’s just a shame the chocolate wasn't nice. Personally I felt it tasted like processed chocolate ganache. Overall the sweet dishes were leagues above the savoury counterparts, and there is definitely an issue with quality control. As we were watching the kitchen all night, being sat at chefs table, it was surprising to me that there was no head chef roaming the islands and inspecting plates as they were being served. Maybe if there was, then many of the issues wouldn't have occurred. This being said, some of the courses, for example the first and second, need completely reimagining and refining. OD Urla is definitely not ready to receive a Michelin star, however their a la carte menu pricing does fall within criteria for Bib Gourmand, and some of the dishes were good enough for the restaurant to receive this award. From my experience so far though, I do not believe the kitchen is consistent enough to deserve any award. Nice food, beautiful setting, however not worth a special trip.More
