Curley's Dining Rooms is an extensive set of stone buildings, a beautiful main dining room with large terrace for outside dining serving mouth watering dishes notably the now famous Curley's Fish and Chips! There is also the Ivy Room which you can book for private dining and functions. Lovely meal for my Dad's birthday.

We visited on 20th December for my Dad's birthday. There were 18 of us, but this was no problem for Woody, Kelly and Abby who were incredibly friendly and helpful all night. The food was great and it was delivered quickly and at the same time. I am vegan and didn't have to pre-order, I chose from three options on the night and then had a delicious vegan chocolate torte afterwards while my family all had birthday cake. We felt very well looked after and would recommend Curley's to anyone looking for a tasty, filling and reasonably priced meal in a friendly and relaxed place.

Great food. Lovely ambience. First time visit after it being recommended to me.

Really nice place. Hard working and friendly staff. Seating inside and outside. Enjoyed our meal. We were confused about seating and paying arrangements. When we arrived, I did stand and wait to be seated, which is fine, but no staff members spoke to us despite 3 staff being at the till, with no customers there. Later, when I asked for the bill, a staff memberl gave me a 'thumbs up' but nothing came of that and when my friend asked another staff member for a coffee she was told it would be on its way and it never materialised. I not sure if different staff cover different areas of the restaurant. I didn't know if I had to pay at the table or at the counter. I went to the counter. There were people there with no social distancing. Also people sitting outside had to come in the exit door to ask for a menu or to pay. This blocked the exit. I definately recommend a visit to Curley's but the paying system and space around the till, entrance and exit doors needs reconfiguring, definately during these worrying times.

Dear customer, honest feedback, whether good or bad is always greatly received. We are now back from the local restrictions being lifted and table service is a 100% legality so everything should be dealt with at the table. This should alleviate any congestion around this area but going forward we are looking into ways this can be tackled. Fish and chips

Had lunch at Curleys on numerous occasions. Average food served, staff not so good, they don't take time to listen when ordering food they want to rush through as quickly as possible so they can continue talking to their colleauges. We always ask for the hot drinks to be served with the food but they bring the drinks straight away, and this happens everytime. In our opinion the customer service needs a lot of improvement.

Unfortunately very poor food

We booked a, table for 7 and all was fine until the food arrived. Admittedly it was busy but that doesn't excuse luke warm food. The fish was only half covered in batter which in itself was hardly warm and of poor quality. The peas were inedible and had a pool of water in the bottom of the pot. The service was very friendly but the meal we were served was unacceptable. We didnt complain as we had young grandchildren with us and didn't want to spoil their day out but it was unfortunately very very mediocre and disappointing.

We usually batter our fish on the lighter side as a large portion of consumers prefers the fish battering lightly. in terms of the fish not being hot enough that is something we would like to tackle at the time of eating but I appreciate that you did not want a fuss in front of your grandchildren. Awful coffee.

Called Thursday afternoon for a coffee and an ice cream. The ice cream palour is in a seperate building so had to ring a bell for service. The ice cream cost £2.80 but the waitress couldn't work out what change to give to my husband he had to tell her the correct amount. I ordered a fresh coffee that came with hot milk. the coffee I've got to admitt was undrinkable I only took one sip and left the rest. It was so, so strong it was awful. We sat outside to enjoy the sunshine but the dreadful smell of cooking fat was really pungent I couldn't wait to leave. Don't think we will be rushing back. Very disapponted.

Dear customer, thank you for your feedback, we apologise for your strong coffee we would happily provide you with one that is not as strong if asked when ordering. We have a young team at curleys who we help nurture into young adults, we pride ourselves on this and maybe the waitress was just a little muddled up at the time, it happens to all of us, particularly in a customer facing role, a little patience goes along way with them. Unfortunately we cannot do anything regarding the smell, we use this as a tactic to lure passersby in for food and it usually works a treat to the hundreds that come through the door weekly. We are sorry your visit was not up to our usual standards we receive lots of positive feed back at curleys, we hope this was an off day and encourage you to give us another try. Breakfast and dog walk

We chose to come here as they are okay with friendly dogs and I've been told the breakfasts are good. The staff were friendly and attentive and allowed us to sit at a large booth table as there were only 3 of us I was grateful of this as it meant our dog could sit quietly under the table. We bought our dog a special dog sausage in there which he loved and I like they do that. We all had either the Fishermen's breakfast or medium breakfast, my son doesn't like tomatoes or mushrooms but they allowed us to swop them items for none meat item so we chose hash brown. Although the portion sizes aren't big you pay for the location and service and quality so I'm satisfied that overall it is good value for money, if you want cheaper then go find a greasy spoon cafe somewhere.

Fish and chips

A friend and I went here in the new year, Its been several years since I had visited and Im afraid I will not be rushing back. Atmosphere was OK , a busy lunchtime flow. Service OK.We chose the pensioner fish dinner, Fish chips peas a slice of bread and a cup of tea.It was very average, infact if I was blindfolded I would not recognise the batter as having fish inside. I went in a party of eight

I went in a party of eight & all of us really enjoyed the visit. I had a regular portion of fish, chips & mushy peas, which was excellent. Three of the party had the smaller fish, chips & mushy peas while three had hot beef sandwiches. The final dish was cheese & onion pie & all plates were cleared. Three of us had a pudding which were also very good. Washed down with mugs of tea & bread and butter.

Poor service

Very slow to take order. Waiting a long time for plates to be cleared. Ordered scone with jam and cream, they brought it out without cream and told us they didn't have clotted cream, this should have been mentioned before ordering. Asked for ice cream for the kids, were told to go to ice cream parlour and order ourselves to bring in, which is fine, went in, no staff came for 5 minutes so gave up and came back to restaurant. Still waiting for plates to be cleared whilst asking for bill. Left to pay at till, table still full. Not the service expected for a first visit.

At that stage of returning from lockdown, we had kept our staffing to a minimum as we were unsure how trade would be and then when the promotion arrived we were stretched and therefore service may well have suffered slightly. Standards in service have reduced!

First of all I would like to say that I'm a regular visitor to curleys as I always enjoy nice food and drink in a lovely setting, especially in warmer months when I sit outside enjoying the views after walking the dogs. Recently though I have noticed that front of house standards appear to be slipping. I've visited twice in 2 weeks over the Christmas periods and on both occasions this has stood out! I still enjoy the food although I tend to order the same meal and have noticed that the chips (as a side dish) are not as good as they used to be. Keep them hot and fluffy curleys, they seemed hard and not fresh. Back to the service. On one occasion I was served a fresh coffee with no milk. I then had to ask for this which didn't arrive. I had to go back to ask as they had forgotten. On the second occasion I had asked for sauces which agiin didn't arrive so I had to ask again. Overall is wasnt clear who was in charge. I noted a large table of customers piling plates onto an empty table as staff seemed unaware the table needed clearing and stood chatting behind the till. They seem to lack the confidence to engage with customers and smile! I think more leadership at front of house is needed! Come on curleys! Everything has been good in the past. Keep up the good work!

Fabulous Curleys

I am not understanding any of the bad reviews about Curleys, .the food is excellent, I go there once a week, now, the fish and chips are the best nice and light fluffy fish and batter, the mince pie and gravy is delicious, and yesterday I tried the quiche with salad and chips,, it was equally as good..You get served within 5 or 10 minutes of arriving there, the pianist was playing Beatles classics last week when we went its so relaxing and we shall certainly continue, and enjoy sitting outside when the weather improves...Thanks Curleys, no bad reviews from us for sure !! keep on doing what youre doing,,,we are now on nodding terms with all your staff .....

went last Saturday and Sunday, I keep asking myself why I have not been for a long while here their gain lotties near Belmont loss, all I ask for is good consistency from a restraunt then I wont wander, any way my findings: Service = Excellent, no rushing, on the ball and I feel very genuine. Price = Excellent, very reasonable Cleanliness = Very good Food, wife had poached eggs with sausage and bacon (eggs were spot on, runny yolk), I had medium breakfast the freshness of the food was excellent each time, the quantity was excellent. Drinks = Tea & coffee were Excellent Overall an excellent place to go too, I do reccomend, a very nice setting great value good food. a good 5/5.

A poor experience - and two workmen flouting the COVID rules?

After a decent walk we were desperate for a drink and something to eat, so walking past the catering van parked just off the main road we opted for Curleys (where I have eaten once before). There were a few notices around saying don’t sit on the walls to eat. OK these are odd times and the COVID rules seem to change daily but buying food from what is clearly a take away but not being able to sit on a stone wall outside on a fairly chilly day seemed a bit non sensical and draconian...but hey ho. We went inside to order using the laughable one way system that literally nobody else but us, stuck to. The worst culprits were two workmen (HMT. Electricians?) who wandered about, brushing past in close proximity to us and other people waiting - and not wearing masks - and going out through the In door, grabbing the door handle and not using hand sanitiser once whilst we were in there. I really hope those guys behaved differently if they were working in an area where food was being prepped or cooked. Surely that the time we were in there couldn’t have been long I hear you say...well, here comes the next point. We couldn’t believe how long it took for the order to be fulfilled. If they’d have popped out to actually catch the fish I wouldn’t have been surprised. Would you like salt and vinegar? Yes please. If there was any on I’d be surprised. We weren’t going to walk back on to the site to get some (don’t forget we couldn’t sit on a wall!). Cutting to the chase four people weren’t impressed with the fish - and the chips were too hard. Rubbish. Won’t be back.

Dear customer Unfortunately, we have been advised that take away is governed by strict rules of leaving the whole premises entirely, this was a physical visit by EHO who said people MUST leave the premises completely. As for the workmen not wearing masks, this issue has been addressed and nobody should be on the premises without a mask. As for your food, we are really sorry you weren't happy with your meal we would really appreciate if you came and spoke to us and gave us another try. Regards, the Curleys Team

Extremely poor service and forgotten orders

Never been before , won't be again! Greeted well and sat down and told "I will bring you some menus" After 5 mins and no menus went up and got them myself. Placed order and then waited!!!!! Drinks came after 5 mins but finished these long before food arrived. After 30 mins had to go back to counter and pointed out still waiting. A further 5 mins server brought wrong order to table. Another 5 mins order arrived minus side orders which had to be pointed out missing. Side order brought out but minus toast that should have been with main breakfast. At this point gave up. Just ate it and left. total wit time 45 mins for simple bacon on toast (side order hash brown) , poached egg on toast and a medium breakfast. Ruined the morning out. Food was alright when arrived.

Useless staff

Food not great, greasy fish with a hair in it! Service absolutely terrible, couldn't bring our tables food all together, took over 20 mins to bring all the main meals, dessert even worse, brought some out over 10 mins and then waiting over half an hour for the others as they had been forgotten. Made up excuse as to why it happened. Seemed to be all very young staff with next to no supervision, will never go again.
