It truly saddens me to be so negative. We have been to the ship numerous times over the years and it has become one of the stand-out features of our week in Northumberland cottage holidays. Today - December 7'th - should have been the same. The setting is simply amazing and we had a gloriously mild and sunny day. A... More

We went for lunch in December and, while everything was perfectly adequate we were expecting a little more after what we had read and more regular visitors had told us. The staff were fine and the meal was ok - they were putting up the Christmas decorations but it did not effect us - maybe we were just not in... More

My partner and I did a lovely walk through the fields around High Newton, ending on the beach, with the final destination being The Ship, which, despite numerous visits to the Northumberland coast, we had never previously visited. We are glad that we did. We could go in with our dog, which was great, the service was speedy, the atmosphere... More

We went here 2 days running after our family beach walk.. Food looked great though we did not get our timing right so did not Eat. The bar is wonderfully open, warm and friendly. Stripped wooden floors and a roaring fire were idylic. They made me a giant, spicey tomato juice. There is a micro brewery that had 4 different... More

Stopped here for lunch after a walk along the coast from Craster. I'd had the place recommended by a friend and also read the reviews on here. On a Monday lunchtime in November I got there about 12 and by 1 the place was heaving, possibly with more dogs than people! I had a gorgeous crab salad stottie (large bread... More

On our annual pilgrimage to the Northumberland coast we used the Ship twice. Once just my wife and I walked there from Beadnell for lunch, you have to be prepared to queue on a day with good weather but the efficiency of the food service once the order was placed was excellent. As usual the brewed on site beers were... More

The place is nice and has a good selection of cask beers, but the place is just too small. Tables are cramped in to accomodate more customer's, but this results in very little space to eat a meal. It feels like they are trying to fit you in and it is not relaxing at all. The food was ok, if... More

It's not easy to have dinner in the Ship. They have a small kitchen & take a limited quantity of bookings. I have not had such good food for a long time. Beautifully cooked. The steak [local] melted in the mouth. Also they have music& cinema nights which I've not been lucky enough to catch. Next time. Fantastic beers brewed... More
