Get there early as the pub can get VERY BUSY with queues out onto the Green. Great food , ploughmans with pork and Stilton pie , kippers ( bit dry but tasty ) with salad and bread . We sat outside on the picnic tables which is great for families and for cyclists as there are no cycle locking facilities... More

We had a meal at the Ship four days ago with friends. We had a great evening. The beers from the microbrewery were very interesting and varied and it was fun to try something different. The food was excellent in particular the fish and the yummy desserts. The service was exceptional. The waiting staff were friendly and efficient. We were... More

We tried to eat here but they only seem to cook on certain days, but we did go for drink. Well it is difficult to find as it sits on a private square with no car access. A rather plain pub inside run by an Italianate guy who can be a bit brusque. One of their claims to fame is... More

We visited, as a group of 4 adults and 4 children, ages 8 to 18 months, for lunch on Thursday 18th August. The place was busy when we arrived at 1155am - quite a queue to order drinks or food. The weather was beautiful so we sat outside and, by good teamwork, we were able make our food selections in... More

We went here for lunch more than once. It's important to know what you will get. The menu is pretty simple, with sandwiches being the mainstay. Is you don't order the local specials it will seem a little normal, e.g. ham/cheese toasty no trimmings. The specials are local crab sandwich or stottie, local kippers, or a mean ploughman's with salad.... More

Well thought out menu, lots of local produce, micro brewery, so good beer too. Nice wooden tables, very European looking. Lots of outside seating to admire the view on a warm evening. Super staff. Food was delicious. Saturday night it was packed with couples, families, groups and the odd dog. Top tip - book well in advance, lobsters have to... More

Visited 10th August. Very busy. Had a good table inside and it was good to people watch. Food very good and arrived promptly. To save the queue again double drinks ordered and food at the same time. Very popular as always featured in the travel sections of national papers. A favourite to return to each year.

Came here on a recommendation, planning to buy a crate of beer to take home from the onsite brewery. The pub is very pretty, the location is lovely, the menu looked good but we were too late to eat. Good selection of beers too but priced at nearly double that of Cheshire local micro-breweries! £3.60 for 1 bottle, no discount... More

Good, enjoyed but expensive for what it was! Had crab salad and could not really tell the difference between the small and large! Understand this is a small pub with small kitchen but expensive for what it is and would benefit from smaller child portions of menu! Compared to meal had at another newton by the sea pub was lacking!... More

Lovely location, especially when the sun is shining. Expect it to be busy, it's always busy. Kipper fish cakes very tasty.
