What a chilly and relaxing place. The food was good and generous. The owner is a lovely person. We were driving around and found this place. We were not disappointed at all. It's like time stopped for a little while.

This place is truly a little “hideout”, with umbrella - topped tables on beautiful patios among lush grounds. Four of us visited and loved the “menu of surprise”, a delicious and creative fixed price all- vegetarian meal. It was an unforgettable meal and an unforgettable...experience!!More

This restaurant was recommended to us by our hotel and we are so very pleased that we went. The owner/chef, Hans Einwing, is very welcoming and kind. It was really interesting to chat with him about his philosophy and approach to life. We found him...inspiring. This is a vegetarian/vegan restaurant but not at all preachy. Fresh produce grown in the beautiful garden forms the bulk of ingredients. We agreed to the four course surprise menu which is accompanied by various drinks. If you don't like the idea of not knowing what you are going to get, the owner will tell you what each course is so you can opt for those you want. We took the gamble and weren't disappointed; each course was delicious and healthy. The restaurant is in a lovely setting, up in the hills and a boulder strewn stream runs at the bottom of the garden. There are several indoor and outdoor seating areas enabling you to find a quiet spot. We went for a late lunch and the restaurant is also open evenings but you do need to book/check opening times. Well worth the visit. The owner can also recommend other vegetarian restaurants on both Faial and Pico.More

We went to this little gem after reading about it in our guide and reading the reviews. The owner and chef has a charming, cozy and romantic restaurant with a big garden where you can also sit. He cooks with wat his garden is giving...him, resulting in delicious, wonderfully surprising meals full of flavour. Since a few years all the food is vegan and he serves only homemade juice and water, so no alcool. He loges to talk about the food and his ideas on food and nature. The place is definitely worth the drive. Make sure you bring cash with you.More

Almost hidden in the forest lies this little restaurant. It only opens for two hours in the evening so to be sure call ahaead and make a reservation. The owner is Hans, who is a Bavarian who lives now fultime here. He cooks without gluten,...sugar and meat. He mainly uses products which he or his neighbors grow or which he finds in the woods. According to what he finds he cooks a surprise meal (starter, salad, main, desert + drink for 20€). As you can see on the photos he puts his heart in his dishes and to be honest your tastebuds have to adjust because some things you have never tasted before and it seems strange first. But it is definitely worth a visit. The sorroundings are very nice. If you sit on the terrace you are sorrounded by some kind of rain forest. It is so relaxing. And the owner is so nice and talks a lot with you. Thanks to him we found another gem in Horta (Principe). Especially for vegetarians/vegans for whom it is not easy on the Azores this place is a must do.More

I came to this restaurant based in all the good reviews. Apart of not being a vegetarian or vegan, both my wife and I are used to vegan food as our daughter is for the last year already and she does a lot of good...dishes. The “experience” was based in a Surprise menu, which seriously, the dishes served were far away of any good food that could be served. Not sure what was the idea on that day, but we did not finish our meal at all.More

Unfortunately, you did not enjoy the food. I´m very sorry! .... I cook primarily for myself and not for tourists. The preparation is to my taste, according to my attitude to life with all my love and with all my heart. I am very happy...More

Drive up, up, up the hill from the main Cedros road, and you'll find this gem tucked away, serving great food and wine on terraces overlooking a beautiful ravine. Multilingual proprietor is a capital chap. Recommend calling for reservations.

I'm a vegetarian my self so I had to try this restaurant and it was a very tasty surprise. I tried flavors that I never tried before like eating flowers! It was different but very good. The best is all the ingredients are home made...and from the owners garden, and the menu is a surprise.More

This evening we had dinner at O Esconderija. Where most restaurants at the Azores totally focus on fish and meat, the only option in this restaurant is a four course vegetarian surprise menu. Furthermore, there is no cola or beer on the menu, only local...wines and home made juices and lemonades. Hans, the owner, cook and waiter is very friendly, will take his time to explain everything that's on your plate and really knows how to combine the flavors of local vegetables and herbs. I'd totally recommend this to anyone who likes to eat something else than a big piece of meat with a leaf of lettuce for decoration!More
