My best gastronomical experience this year! A rainy day in October got us to this unknown town near the most occodental point of continental europe.. and we were blown away by the phenomenal food we found here. I ordered a fish soup full of flavors and with a small spicy kick and then the winner dish.. grilled dried cod fish with broccoli and boiled potatoes.. so simple.. so delicious. The best piece of fish I've eaten in years. Then I had a Molotof desert which is foamy, creamy sweet.. by far my best restaurant experience this year. I really recommend it.

The best place for a meal! We came here during our visit to the coast and loved it. The service was great (our waiter was Antonio and he was the best), food was incredible (you could even see through a window to the kitchen to watch them grilling food over the hot coals) and the ambiance was so welcoming. The bathrooms were clean and we appreciated our waiter giving us excellent recommendations for food and wine. Definitely go here but make a reservation first!!

Best food and service i had in Portugal

Both in Porto or Lisbon, i came across with good food and service and in rare occasions the extreme opposite. Refugio de Roca is qualified to be my best experience ever in this country. From the octopus to the squid and ending in the friendly staff, this restaurant features a very authentic decoration, where you feel that you want to take a bite from the menu to the atmosphere.

Assuming that the choice was minimal, we came across this seemingly very nice roadside restaurant. As an appetizer we order some Patanegra which all in all was enough. Here we come to the sore points (see photo) we order the "sea food pasta" taken well by the fact that we were on a seaside place and we liked the pasta of good Italians. Pasta arrives soaked, in the true sense of the word, in a broth that I couldn't define for you. The fish was not fresh, at all, it was frozen and served as such. Embarrassing. Scallop with wine sauce, good meat but excessively soaked in wine sauce which covered every flavour. Move on to the next one.

Verei good starters. Poor main courses. OK wine. Too expensive quality for money. Octopus cane partly gummy. Caldeirada de marisco had cream and unfrozen seafood. Considering the price nearly 90 euro for 3, I would expect fresh seafood. For me it was a big NO! I see the place runs on one time tourists. I will never come back.

Wow! The BEST Seafood Soup and Octopus

Our guide brought us to the restaurant for lunch and it was amazing. We had probably the best seafood soup ever! Large pieces of fish, mussels, shrimp and a broth that was thick and flavorful. Equally amazing was the grilled octopus that was the most tender we have ever had from head to tentacle.

Passing through the region to see the magnificent sunset from Cabo de Roca, we ordered takeaway so we could eat near the lighthouse. This family restaurant accepted our request without any problem. A very generous portion of seafood pasta because we were able to eat it together! An excellent desert (rice pudding) (like the main course, only fresh produce). All this for a much more than reasonable price. We thank the establishment for its welcome and adaptation to best respond to our request in record time!

Food was really bad,especially the pasta dish is one of the worst i ever had. Only appetizers were ok. Prices to high for what you get. Service was good and also the Atmosphere is great. Would only recommend if you are really hungry and dont have another option... disappointed....

Doubtful after reading some mediocre reviews, we leave the Cape very late on a cold and rainy evening. They immediately make us sit next to the lit fireplace: few customers, the atmosphere is familiar. The gentleman at the ordinations speaks perfect English. We try the cod, not the best eaten in Portugal but still very good, excellent grilled cockerel, wonderful grilled Iberian pork ribs. The desserts were a great surprise, the famous Altrof and the Crumble with ice cream. Absolutely honest account. I would go back immediately to try other dishes that inspired me.

Nice places at first glance, old decorations, some will say "in its original form" others that it is "period". The service was the most sober possible, no procrastination, no chatter and no aperitif menu for that matter... I preferred to give the average rating because that's what this experience gave me, a downside among this average discovery was the price which is still quite high for what it is. I couldn't say that I recommend this address but it's not to be avoided either.

Took my partner on a multi-stop roadtrip in Portugal (where I am from) so he could discover our wonderful country. We spent a couple of days in the Colares area and had a lovely romantic meal at Refugio da Roca. Restaurant was calm, service was quick but not rushed, friendly and professional. Food was fantastic (typical, real portuguese food, not touristy versions) and at a decent price! Definitely recommend. Thank you!

Thanks to previous reviews and transiting on the way to the Cape we noticed the local , where we had dinner returning from the visit. Excellent fish and meat cuisine, generous portions and much friendliness 'by the managers. Great value for money. An added value Mr. Ferdinando, who knows our language having lived a few years in our country and who excellently recommended us the second evening, with a screaming fillet !!. (but also the cod of the first evening and sparkling white wine were amazing ..) In embarrassment and not to make mistakes, we returned a second time... it was worth it. Thank you all and hopefully see you soon...

Returning from the visit to Cabo da Roca we stopped in this place attracted by the simplicity of the place. We ate ribs, chicken, choco and swordfish. The ribs and chicken were charred, tasteless and hard. The choco was very hard and practically could not be eaten. The swordfish was full of thorns and didn't have the shape that the swordfish is supposed to have, so no idea what it was eating.

Friendly staff, quick service but we also went for lunch around 3:30 pm Tasty food but they used a little tomato pulp in the sea pasta. Tasty sweets. Average price per person is around 25 euros.
