We went here for dinner on Wednesday night in February. While it is not a cheap place (not is anywhere in Tulum) the food was great and we felt very welcome. It was my partner’s birthday and they brought us an extra prosecco (complete with dry ice smoke and fireworks sticks 😉) to go with dessert. We shared fish ceviche as a a starter, then had lobster salad and vegan pappardelle, then shared a huge but delicious “Italian cheesecake” for dessert. Portions are very big but again our waiter was attentive and honest enough to warn us in advance. The dessert was 400 Mexican $ but could literally feed 4 persons, so we had more than half left. We were offered a take away box for the left-overs. Great food, great athmosphere!

Don't let the trendy beach club fool you, after you've had your fill of  beach, sand and sun, venture up to the restaurant and be prepared to be amazed. There is a food revolution taking place in Tulum and Taboo is right at the top of the list. All the right elements are here, a view of the Caribbean, sunbathers down below in various sunbeds and lounge chairs, a reflection pool and tampered elegance. Definitely upscale and everything is a reminder of that,  from plentiful and friendly waitstaff, to soft lighting that adds to the charm and atmosphere. It's worth every penny. Taboo is one of those places where you might want to try everything, it is that good. We enjoyed grilled octopus, phyllo camembert with honey and grilled peaches and black risotto with more octopus. Each bite into any of the offerings made us want another. The flavorings are subtle, nuanced and abundant. Every dish that we encountered was well thought out and precise, from simple to complicated. There is a leisurely pace to your dining and the staff ensures you enjoy everything or will seemingly work with you to make it so. Taboo also features an extensive drink menu from specialty drinks, to everything in between. Yes, this is being spoiled, this can be gluttony, but it is also a premiere dining experience in Tulum. Original, authentic and opulent.

Every experience at Taboo is excellent. If you arrive without a reservation, you will need to wait or give a little tip to the hosts, but WELL worth it. The DJ's and music onsite is world class - the violinists especially. The ambiance is excellent and we haven't even talked about the food and drinks yet. They have a really creative menu themed around the four elements. While expensive, this is one of the few places in Tulum that is actually 100% worth the price. The servers are attentive, and they really know how to celebrate. We were there for our anniversary and they brought champagne and dessert on top of the drinks and dessert we'd already ordered. The salmon is some of the best I had in Tulum, flame cooked at your table. The squid ink pasta delicious and the complimentary tapas always fresh and delicious. They import olive oils from the East. We tried so many other things, but I'll it with this ... all the desserts are incredible but the chocolate soufflé is the way to go.

We were recommended this restaurant in Tulum beach and wonder what is wrong with the person who recommended. The location and atmosphere are pleasant and the service professional. The food IS the problem. If you want to pay American price and eat badly just go there.Starters were ok but main dishes prepared by someone having no clue it seems. Lamb hamburger with burned meat looking worst to what I will give to my dog, Spaghetti with sea food with One mussel, no shrimps, a couple of non tasty clams, overcooked with a super spicy sauce which anyhow just make you forget what you put in your mouth,no alcohol and a bill of about 150 US $ .This was our first attempt out of our hotel and if this is the standard restaurant in Tulum this is much a pity for such a lovely place

So my friend and I booked a reservation with them to celebrate my birthday. Even though it was over an hour away, we still went. When we got there we told the hostess that we came to celebrate my birthday. At first, everything went smoothly. When my friend got her appetizer, she didn’t like it and asked the waiter right away if she could take it back to the kitchen. The waiter said with an attitude “what’s wrong with it” and my friend stated that she didn’t like it. From there everything went down hill. So this place plays loud music and some people will get up and dance. Well the Dj noticed people of color were there and he played a few songs he knew we would like. We enjoyed ourselves and were dancing. We received so many dirty looks from other guests and the people that work there. On the last song the DJ lowered the volume, then 2 minutes later he changed it back to the music the other crowd liked and the music was indeed louder. So while we’re eating my friend asked for pepper and the waiter never brought it out. After I meal we asked for separate checks and the waiter looked at me as if I was crazy and told me they couldn’t do it. Later on the man who came with the portable card reader didn’t even acknowledge us, not even a hello. Once I mentioned the tip to my friend that’s when he said “oh 15%” is always added. I don’t care about the percentage of the tip but at least provide good customer service and give us our options. While we were there we saw at least 7 tables that were having their birthday celebrated. They had about 4-6 bottle girls holding the sparkles and a cake that had a sparkle on it. When I saw that I was excited for my turn. But we waited and waited and no one came. Finally one waiter asked me if everything was okay and I told him no and told him what happened. He said the he will “surprise me” well boy was I in for a surprise! Only my two waiters came out. NO bottle girls came out! I was disappointed, I asked the waiters about why everyone else received better service and she laughed lightly and said “the bottles girls already left.” It wasn’t even 10:20 how on earth did they leave. & even if they did why wouldn’t you make sure your guest are celebrated before they leave. I was highly disappointed, this ruined my 25th birthday. I should’ve went to Harry’s or Bak instead, they treat black people better there 😊.

Not sure who is leaving these great reviews. Food and service is horrible. Even though we had reservations for 9:30, we weren’t seated until almost 11pm, but we had to wait as with late reservation and a big party, it would had been difficult for us to find another restaurant. They provided one menu for 12 people... had to keep asking for more to no available, finally took two from another waiter passing by our table. Service was next to none existing. We ordered a paella and that’s the first thing that came, rest of the food didn’t come until 45 minutes later, mind you by this time it was 11:45. Food was super salty, inedible. We told waiter how salty the paella was, they did took it and offer to bring another one. They did.... but I don’t eat meat. They forgot it was supposed to be seafood only. I gave it to someone else in our party whose food never came, they still did not eat it, because of how salty it was. Needless to say, the place has good atmosphere and music, but I can find that in basically any bar in the area. If you coming for this, you are welcomed, but I would not recommend coming here for food. Lastly but not least, there is a strong smell, everywhere in the restaurant.

Although the staff were friendly, the manager was terrible. When we arrived at the beach club, we were the only ones. After being seated, we were moved because the manager wanted to reserve the 4 person table (we were only 2, and we were the only two guests in the whole place. After ordering drinks, we were told that it was mandatory to order food. When we decided not to order food, we were brought the bill (we had just started our drinks). One cocktail and 1 bottle of water cost us over 400 pesos ($20USD). After we paid, the manager watched us until we left. We really wanted to like this place and were prepared for it to be expensive, but with all the wonderful options in Tulum, we definitely won’t be back!

Food was good but way over priced. Wait staff was in our face trying to take our order every 2 minutes but took the menus before we could order our main course. When we were done with our appetizer and drinks we walked down to the beach through the party to check it out. We decided it was not for us and turned around to head back to our car. At that point we were stopped by security and hassled for wrist bands that we had no idea we needed. We explained to the bouncers that we had just finished dinner and were leaving but they wouldn’t allow us to return the way we came and got really aggressive (even after showing them the receipt for our meal.) We ended up getting kicked out into the beach and had to find our way back to our car through another hotel. If you’re into that perpetual spring break vibe including drunk idiots, meat head bouncers, bottle service, cheesy strip club music and $20 cocktails then this is your place. If you have any sense of class at all, stay the hell away from this flaming dumpster fire.

An incredible evening with the most amazing drinks and food one can ask for. We had dinner during Covid and the service and attention to detail was just mind blowing. Our table Host Jair was beyond attentive, helpful and did not miss a single beat. The Mixology drinks are to die for, you should try the all - we were 4 people ordering 6 drinks and we have tasted each others drinks and we were just blown away from taste to presentation. The dinner menu is also excellent, I highly recommend the mushroom soup ( personally I ordered one to go for next day ). All and all just be prepared to be amazed. The dinner for 4 was around $600 USD but i can say this would been well over $1500 in Los Angeles - so it was well worth the price! Thank You Taboo!!!

This restaurant was recommended by the hotel staff we stayed at and by far was the worst food and service we had being it was our first time in Tulum. The mgr was rude and insincere and food was expensive and tasteless. I’ve eaten better food at street carts than this restaurant. Totally regret taking my boyfriend there for his birthday dinner.

Took my wife for a nice evening in the beautiful town of Tulum. Started off well enough as this place is really beautifully decorated and extravagant. That’s where it stops. Food was very suspect and all our dishes where salty tasting. The Nigerian prawns that started off with where overly cooked and priced at Aprox 45.usd We ordered a fish dish as well and it was overly salty and dry. Waiters where not very knowledgeable either. Asked them if the mains come with sides and they said no, so we ordered al la cart sides. We got the mains and guess what, they did come with the sides too...so we had way more then expected. Wouldn’t have been to bad but guess what the sides (mushrooms and asparagus) where salty as well. And to add more salt to the wound (no pun intended) They ran out af all there white wines! I understand there was a big music festival the week before but what they told us it was Over a week that they ran out. Not very good good management if you ask me. For over 200.00 USD in just food costs the evening was less then impressive.

Let me start by saying I very infrequently write a review, especially a negative one, yet this couldn't go unsaid. My wife and I travel the world, Tulum was our first visit. We consider ourselves "foodies" and have eaten good food at food carts to five star restaurants. We had our first couple meals in downtown Tulum and were happy with the quality of food. We decided to try something on the coast where we thought the ambiance and dining experience would be a little more upscale. Wife decided on Taboo. On our arrival my first thought was "so much for table conversation " since the music volume was like I was attending a Rave. So be it, let's eat. Appetizers were a 2 out of a 10. Ordered tuna tartare. I was served a disk off what tasted like a over lime cooked ceviche. Wife was served some type of hummus that was palatable yet unimpressive for the price. I was going to give the kitchen another chance yet we sat there for 25 minutes with numerous waiters, including ours, ignore my empty glass and not inquiring about another drink or more food. When the waiter finally approached he simply cleared the glass and asked if we wanted our check. I responded that I had wanted another drink and food yet I'm my patience was done. He simply smiled and said ok and got my check. No inquiry about the food, no follow up by a manager. My impression of this bar, I'm not even going to refer to it as a restaurant, is it's more focused on being a party spot with visuals, music and drinks. If your looking for a place to have good food as part of the experience, completely avoid Taboo.

My husband and I had dinner at Taboo last night and it was outstanding. The food and drink presentation were impressive and delicious...we had a drink called the Voodoo, it was served in a coconut with liquid nitrogen on the top of it. Our rib eye steak and Mediterranean shrimp were cooked perfectly and Our server Abraham was very attentive and friendly. My favorite part of the evening was listening to the electric violinist play as he walked around the dinner tables. Our only complaint was the music played by the DJ was a bit too loud for our taste.

We had a very disappointing experience at the restaurant. Our main course the catch of the day was very dry and the sides were delivered cold. We ordered the grilled calamari as an appetizer which were burnt and also every table receives a free antipasti platter with pita bread, the bread was undercooked inside. Our waiter Alan was unfriendly, didn’t smile once, didn’t welcome us or even looked at us when we were talking to him. He rolled his eyes when we asked if the fish is deboned and seemed very annoyed to be serving us. When we asked for the manager, Manuel stopped by and we complained about the food and the Service. He tried to justify himself to us but we didn’t get an apology or any discount on our bill. He even asked to not put a bad review on social media. We have been in Tulum for two weeks by now and always enjoyed our visits at any restaurant here. The taboo is overpriced and the Service can’t hold up to the standard of the other restaurants in the Hotel Zone. Go to the Rosanegra which is by the same company but the food and the people are from a different world!

Let me start by saying the food and ambiance was amazing. The service however, was absolutely horrible. From my observation, they cater more to large parties with bottle service and entertainment more so than couples. Maybe that’s why we were overlooked with a lot of requests. It took som time to get us seated, with reservations, then they tried to seat us literally at the dj booth on what seemed like the smallest table in the restaurant. I asked to be seated somewhere else, although there was some hesitation, they did. It took a while to get a waiter to place our order but once we did the food came out pretty fast. At most places water is provided first before anything else, apparently not here. It took me asking 3 or 4 waiters and over 30min to get water! They forgot about my boyfriend birthday and took a while to bring the check. Also, a group next to us stated the waiter forgot some of their order and they finally received right before we were leaving. Mind you they were there before us and we were there about 2hrs. Don’t think I’ll be returning for dinner again. The price of the food was not worth the horrible service
