My family and I made reservations here for my 39th birthday. The staff is very welcoming and friendly, the atmosphere is beautiful, open and romantic, the food was some of the best I had in Tulum. The best part though was that they went above and beyond for my birthday by serving us a special flan as the birthday cake and a celebratory shot of fine tequila. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who is looking for a nice place to eat. The service is amazing!

This was my second visit to El Tabano, the first was from about three years ago. Its a nice place with good food. My only complaint, like most of the restaurants along the beach drive in Tulum, is that its too expensive.

We love this place - have been several times and I am shocked it isn't ever jammed, the food is delicious, authentic Yucatecan dishes. Not trying to be something trendy or novelty. Great cocktails, extensive wine selection and super service. One of the best restaurants in Tulum!

This was our most disappointing restaurant experience. We stopped in for an early dinner after a very hot and sweaty walk. The service at this point was fantastic. They brought a fan near us and provided much needed mosquito repellant. We were wowed. We ordered tuna tikin xic and fish tacos. So far so good! Food was brought out in a timely manner and the hostess came by to ask if my husband wanted another beer. I was having water. She said she could bring me a free drink and I finally settled on a margarita. The food came promptly, but unfortunately both of our dishes were overcooked pretty badly. Then when we got the bill my "free" margarita turned out to be nearly $13 USD. We questioned it and all they would do was honor a happy hour deal of another margarita that I didn't want.

This place is HORRIBLE!!!! Overpriced food. We came here thinking we would have some good tacos to start of our vacation and wow did this place disappoint. We ordered chicken and shrimp tacos. The shrimp was served as it were blended in a blender with very strong fishy taste I believe this was very old frozen shrimp. After one taco I asked to send it back and let me get the other tacos with something else. they refused saying it was because I had already tasted it. My husband ordered the chicken tacos. They tasted as if it were boiled chicken with some tomato sauce. Only had one beer and a juice and the bill came was 45 dollars ! You get better food at a food truck in the USA for half the price. Stay way

I visited El Tabano recently with friends for our last night in Tulum and initially was really happy with our choice for dinner. The venue and location were lovely. We asked for recommendations for food from the staff and our meals were pretty good also. All in all we were happy and intended to show this with our tips since, at first, we were happy with our service. However, since it was our last night some of us had decided to pay for the bulk of the meal with our cards and then leave the tip in cash - since we of course cannot use our mexican pesos at home. However, when we mentioned this to our waiter when paying for the bill he all of a sudden became very hostile and unfriendly. We tried again to explain that we were happy with the service and would indeed be paying the service charge, just in a separate cash payment but he continued to act in a rude manner towards us. It got so bad in fact that we decided that we no longer wanted to pay for the remaining service charge (we had already paid part of it via card while going back and forth with him) and settled the charge for the meals we had consumed and left with our cash tips. The night then took and even WORSE turn when we were followed outside by our waiter where he shouted abuse at us on the street as we waited for out taxi. We felt very shaken up and upset as three travelling women by this hostile and aggressive behaviour. All in all it was very dissapointing as we initially were very happy with El Tabano and were looking forward to tipping them with the last of our vacation money. However, in the end, we were left with a very bad taste in our mouths.

This was one of the best dishes I have ever had.....period! Stuffed Jalepenos Plus I could have eaten just their chips and salsa for dinner they were that good. Also the owner or manager was so passionate about his food. What a meal

We loved the food there so much that we had dinner there 3 days in the row. Israel was very attentive and suggested every time an excellent new dish to try. The red chicken was my favorite dish. Coco Loco was a fun drink.

Luis was very friendly and attentive and recommended the best food and drinks. The mole was the best I had so far and the enchiladas with green sauce was divine. Good way to unwind the last day in Tulum.

Amazing place for breakfast and dinner after drinking. It’s the only place where you would amazing authentic Mexican food. Service is outstanding. The two servers helping us made us feel very welcome. I definitely recommend this restaurant when in Tulum.

This place is very quaint and we love it for that. We came back twice! To start, it’s super clean. There is a hand washing station when you first come in, touch free. The drinks were perfect, one of the best margaritas in Tulum. They also have speciality drinks. My fiancé got the Earthquake and Mama Lindo. Both were fantastic, more on the spicy side. The first night we did appetizers. We got the stuffed Jalopenos and the green ceviche. Both were amazing in flavor. The second night we got the coconut and ginger shrimp and the beef tacos. So fresh and the flavors were spot on! The staff was very friendly and accommodating. They even gave us limes for tequila at our hotel! This is a must visit in Tulum!

My girl friend and I ate here and had absolutely the best hospitality we have experienced since being in tulum. Not only were our tacos, chili rellianos, and pina coladas top notch but when we went to pay our card wouldn’t work. The owner was extremely patient and kind. He offered me a drink while we waited to work it out. I totally reCommend this place over the over priced trendy spots on the strip. Thank you for keeping hope alive for tulum!

Found El Tabano while just out for an evening walk. We were very happy to find it. Had veggie tacos and chips, salsa and guacamole. Drinks were Mojito and Mezcal. Everything was wonderful. They were very accommodating. I recommend it for vegetarians. Nice ambiance too.

Poor quality food, expensive...not recommended. Frozen shrimps, over cooked for a simple ceviche. $395.00 pesos for enmoladas?...never will go back, ever!!!!
