Recommended by friends we truly enjoyed our lunch near the canal. Lovely terrace, quiet and peaceful setting. The portions are all made with local products and are generously served. Smoky waiter! Would love to go back

It seems that French restaurants far prefer reservations to drop ins. So if you do indeed reserve, as we did, you get the best table and friendly staff. Our server, it turns out was on her 3rd day on the job, which explains our wrong orders and subsequent delay to the poor couple who had ordered the confit of duck... More

We have visited this place several times now on our holidays to Salleles d'aude. I feel that the food is very good quality for the set menu price. The food is always very delicious and locally resourced in a lovely setting. I would recommend going on a Wednesday evening when they have a jazz band play and reserving a table... More

Great setting. Friendly staff. Excellent food. Decent wines. Trip Advisor needs 100. Rather than waffling.

Varied menu , reasonable price and good service. Outside dining, ate lunch and dinner here and both were good

This slightly unusual restaurant has a wide range of Bio and Vegetarian dishes as well as more conventional choices. Cooking is good without being outstanding. There are some interesting dishes to tempt most palates. Service was a little fragmented on our visit as the only, young waiter had to supervise and serve about 40 covers on his own. An interesting... More

We cycled to the restaurant for lunch , as many do. It is in a beautiful location next to the Canal du Midi in Le Somail which is a picturesque hamlet and a 'must see' for visitors to the area. We sat outside under a shaded pergola area and enjoyed a superb meal. We had their special platters. Mine had... More

Le Somail is a small town centered on the Canal du Midi. Le Comptoir Nature is one of the better restaurants there ~ good food, enjoyable ambiance..... The highlight though was their Meringue dessert ~ so good our table ordered 3 (oink, oink) but it was worth it and except they closed the restaurant for the evening, we might have... More

Ate dinner outside on the banks of the Canal du Midi - lovely environment. Starters of foie gras creme brûlée and salt cod with chorizo were very good but let down badly by the lamb cutlets we both had as main courses. The cutlets were very fatty and somewhat chewy - not at all like the lamb cutlets I have... More

Le Somail is hard to find, and took us a couple of attempts, so look for the D607 off what is (briefly) the D7 at the roundabout, on the main road from Carcassonne to Beziers. It is worth the effort because Le Somail is a beautiful and photogenic canal-side port, with some historic buildings, a bookshop, a gallery and tearoom... More
