Nice views, good food

It does what it does very well. There are few pretensions attached to the Pirate's Galley. Paper table cloths. a slightly scruffy air to it, initially a slightly grumpy albeit efficient waiter (but he warmed) and a very competent waitress. The location is excellent with nice views over the water, open windows and the option of feeding the fishes out of the windows with little lumps of surplus bread roll. We ordered grilled lampuki - local maltese fish. It was excellent as were the chips and salad that came with it. The desserts were quite good if not brilliant. One lemon cheesecake and a fudge chocolate cake, We had half a bottle of the local white wine - inexpensive and very good and the coffees were absolutely fine. Service was good. No 1 front of house sat down as the restaurant emptied (we were quite late for lunch) No 2 waitress, very competent would nip out for the occasional cigarette but always kept an eye on the clientele. One minor issue was that I had difficulty logging on to the house wifi - but 4G mobile data was fine. Good experience. We would happily return.

Excellent food. Nice view. Like many other restaurants in xlendi this is a place where you would like to come back. Waiters are very attentive, speak several languages and everything was tasty, fresh and delicious. So 10/10 good job!

Beautiful eve!

We had a beautiful evening at this restaurant in Xlendi. Service was excellent, the guys were very helpful. Food was very good although the local fish soup could have been better when compared to other local fish soups which you can find in other restaurants. Main courses, grilled calamari and swordfish were cooked to perfection! Will come back again next time we visit!

Nos han cobrado 2,75 euros de más como extra por pasta fresca pero en ningún momento nos han avisado del sobrecoste. Al preguntarlo nos dicen que está en el menú y al comprobar que No es así nos dicen que lo sienten, que volverán a imprimir el menú pero nos lo hacen pagar. They have charged us 2.75 euros extra for fresh pasta but they did not tell us about the extra cost. When asked, they tell us that it is on the menu and when they check that it is not, they tell us that they are sorry, that they will reprint the menu but we had to pay it.

Perfect!

Warm welcome, great service, excellent food (it always amazes me how they do it with such a TINY kitchen!). Service cannot be better or more friendly. Two mains, bottle of Chardonnay, topped off with a really good espresso all for under €50. Portions are Maltese so go hungry, you'll need the room.... try the Fungus Rock burger....... OOF! Ambiance, location, view all perfect.

One of the best restaurants in Gozo!

We are back after a year in this delightful sea view restaurant, if last time went well this year everything was really perfect from the welcome to the food. To premise that the kitchens in Gozo compared to Malta close much earlier, when around 10 pm we had lost hope of being able to eat something we were welcomed by Jacob and all his delightful staff despite the late hour, excellent service, attention to detail (warm bread, how not to love it?) superlative tuna carpaccio one of the best eaten so far, great wine and to finish lemon cheesecake, special as the evening we spent in this place . 10/10 keep it up!

Interesting fact: Pasta Carbonara takes 3 month to be cooked

The restaurant looks nice, but after ordering something relatively simple, we were waiting for one hour for our pasta carbonara and bruschetta. They didn’t give us nothing to eat while we waited and also didn’t give us a heads up of how long it would take. We finally had to leave because we had to catch a bus that passes once every hour. When we told the staff we had to leave they reacted a bit defensively and rude, we will not come back and do not recommend!

A cosy dinner by the seaside!!!

Visited this restaurant in November for a Friday night dinner. Really impressed with the food and service. First of all the person who answered the telephone for the booking was really helpful and I got the table as requested - by the sea. The menu is really comprehensive and includes lots of choice. Practically I was impressed with the menu since other restaurants tend to offer less choice. We opted for 2 pasta dishes. Warm bread and butter was served as well. Pasta was very well presented and really tasted well. The ingredients blended perfectly and the end result was really excellent. Compliments to staff and especially to the chef Maryanne as it was a dinner that really impressed me.

Just a great dining experience!

We were drawn to this restaurant because of it’s great location and nice ambience. What really impressed us was the brilliantly efficient and friendly service. The staff were excellent, friendly and very accommodating, on top of that the food was great. We had the fisher platter, a big meal but really nicely seasoned and well put together - a huge portion but easy to finish because the quality was so good - tuna steak, prawns, calamari, muscles all nicely seasoned and presented….and the beef baglio(something) sorry, delicious. Lovely dessert to finish (Snickers Cake, yum) Even the coffee was great, nice roast. Again great food, excellent staff. Highly recommended.

Rude waiter not willing to serve just drinks

Wow you’d think establishments would want the business at these times! Sat down at 16:30 with four people actually wanting cocktails and two bottles of wine but was told only food for lunch. Rudely told only food. Their loss! Went somewhere else and spent the money there. Always visited there before out of season as we only live in Malta but no more!!! Avoid - other places that are more accommodating.

Don't bother with that place

The service was terrible took the drink order in 5 ish minutes then waited another 20 minutes to order food only after completing about the wait the waiting staff were very rude . I ordered the ribs took 30 mins to turn up & were as tough as all get out ,came with "roasted potatoes & veg all the veg was raw potatoes nearly . Best advice don't bother with the place

Amazing gluten free food

One of the best gluten free experiences I have had at a restaurant. They were more than accommodating to mine and my families coeliac needs. They made us hot gluten free rolls to start and said almost anything on the menu could be made gluten free. The staff were lovely and very welcoming.

Very nice place for lunch with the seaview

I was sooo pleasantly surprised by this restaurant! We came there by accident; we just finished a long walk at Ta Cenc cliffs, came to Xlendi are were super hungry, so we chose literally the first restaurant at the seaside. I didn't expect anything special but.... it was one of my best meals in Gozo! I ordered vegetable soup, which was sooo gooood, reminds me home :) I didn't eat that good soup in Malta ever before. I didn't even know it is possible in Mediterranean region. As a main course I took a salad with fresh, local tuna. Usually when you order a salad with meat or fish you just expect a few little pieces, but noty here!! On the top of my salad I found a few really big fillets of grilled tuna, fresh and delicious. And I have to say that generally in Malta it's very hard to find a salad with fresh fish or seafood - usually the only available options of salads are ceasar, caprese and smoked salmon :/ In Pirate's Galley you will find a really wide range of different salads with fresh, local products, that's why I strongly recommend this place for a healthy lunch :)

One of the best restaurants in the world

I felt I had to write this review, as I had read reviews about it before I went there earlier this month and originally decided to give it a miss. However, having eaten and drank there for the two nights I was in Xlendi, being treated so well by Jacob, his staff and family, I felt I had to write to put a few things straight. Jacob is the finest host, his co-staff are very friendly, helpful etc. I can only imagine that the negative reviews are written by (ashamed being British as I am) by arrogant Brits who click their fingers at the staff, confusing themselves that Maltese people are not Spanish waiters in a tacky resort in Benidorm, full of Brits from Liverpool. If you got poor service at the Pirate's Galley, you probably deserved it! This is Malta, just be polite, you will get 4x the politeness in return. Food was awesome, restaurant was full (of happy customers) service superb. Thanks Jacob :)

It doesn't get any better than this! You have to eat here!

Stunning fresh food, produced in the tiniest kitchen, by an amazing chef and served with Jacob and his ever cheerful staff. We've had pasta, fresh fish( caught by Jacob's Father) beef, chicken, octopus and calamari over the course of a dozen meals over three stays in Xlendi and never had a bad meal. Even when they are flat out busy or tired from a days service, they are still very good. Terrific quality! You MUST book during the height of the season ( June - July- August) if you want a table in the evening. Try the Octopus stew or the fresh pasta coupled with a local Rose. Perfect!
