I am in Limbo because I am waiting for my favorite restaurant to open after some weeks of Winter Shutdown. I wanted to write a review so that it will be the first 2020 review because this year 2020 it is going to be a sensational year for Sapana restaurant. If you like authentic Indian food, served with a smile and courteous waiters, this is the place to go while in Gozo. Sounds like a promotion? Yes, it is but a genuine promotion from someone who knows and loves Indian Cousine.

Unbeatable Indian restaurant in Gozo, and not just because it is (or claims to be) the only Indian restaurant in Gozo!
Gentle and welcoming decor and friendly staff, plus excellent food and generous portions.
(The trick with Indian is always the lamb: check the texture of this meat, and you know what kind of dining experience you landed in.)
Well done Sapana - and an unlikely surprise in the Xlendi 'tourist trap'.

We are repeat customers, we have been dining at Sapan every week and I cannot but praise both the food and the people. Everyone is fully dedicated at making sure the customers have the best experience ever, no matter how busy they are or what the requests might be. I have stomach issues and cannot eat hot; the restaurant has gone far and beyond to make sure I am served food I can eat. Once they even prepared a meal to take home and try, a gesture which I will never forget. If you are looking for the best indian restaurant in Gozo, look no further. Go to Sapana, in Xlendi. Thanks from Alberto and family.

The food: The sauce tastes were good, but both the butter chicken and the chicken tikka masala were quite a way off what they are supposed to. Especially the tikka masala was very very sweet. Also, the chicken in the butter chicken was quite overcooked and dry. But the other dishes had tender proteins.
The service: only one person could receive orders, and the communication between the staff was not working well. Twice we told a waiter what we wanted, both times the "main man" came over to ask what we wanted. And these were simple orders: two beers with a given brand, and to pay by card rather than cash. The effect was slower service that should have been necessary. We spent almost an hour just waiting, either for someone to take our order, for the food or for paying.

This restaurant serves good, “European-friendly” (read: not at all spicy) Indian food that is nice but we would’ve preferred a lot more spice in the dishes. We were all full when we left, but at that price we had expected something more spectacular and definitely some bigger portions. The waiters were many, which was nice, yet the attitude wasn’t rather welcoming. There were some vegan options. All in all a nice experience but would go for something with a better value for money ratio next time.

Luckily this gem of a restaurent was on our list for the second half of our trip otherwise we would have eaten here every day for a week 🤣. As it was we were a little embarrassed to show up twice in 3 days, because the food was so outstanding.
The staff were fantastic, attentive, friendly and all seemed happy to be at work. The restaurent itself is nicely decorated and you have an option of inside or outside dining.
The food...my goodness...stunning! Depth of flavour, tenderness of meats, variety of choice, honestly Sapana is now hands down our favourite restaurent on Gozo. My partner said this was the best curry he has had outside of India. Highly recommended.

After reading so many good reviews, we decided to try this restaurant.
We have been in India many times and realise that Indian restaurants in Europe usually don't use as many herbs and spices.
But this restaurant was well below average of even the European version of an Indian restaurant.
We ordered Bombay potatoes and a vegetable curry.
When they brought the dishes it was hard to see which was which, while Bombay potatoes usually are dry with herbs and spices, these were floating in exactly the same sauce as the vegetable curry.
Even the waiter couldn't tell us immediately which was which.
Acceptable if this is their version, but the "curry sauce", in both dishes, was not much more than a tomato sauce with chili and coriander. No taste of any other ingredients.
I bit in a vegetable and hot water came squeezing out. This would not happen if it was prepared properly.
So, my impression is that they have a basic sauce, which is a little bit adapted to whatever you order and poored over the main dish (in our case 1 dish of boiled vegetables and 1 dish of boiled potatoes.)

My second time visiting this restaurant and it did not disappoint. Got a mix of things but the octopus balti is TO DIE FOR (I asked them to crank up the spice and it was even better), one of the tastiest curries I've had outside of India. The staff are super friendly and the overall atmosphere is great. Not to be missed!

We had mixed feelings about getting food here, as the reviews are conflicting. But due to a storm, options were limited. Disappointing results and we wouldn't recommend the place. Its not that the food was bad, it just wasn't good enough. My favourite Indian restaurant at home in Ireland is so far ahead, its shocking. Its like they don't actually know how to cook Indian dishes. And by the way, adding sugar to a dish doesn't make it tasty. Best avoided.

No offense but during this pandemic I would definitely say no more dinning in this restaurant because of lack of hygienic measures. If you notice you can see clearly they are not using safety things properly such as facial mask, visors, lots of direct contamination with open handed cutleries. Food taste not so special it was like average for me.
I hope they will follow the safety measures as soon as possible as much as they can.

Would recommend booking a table as we turned up unannounced, were quickly accommodated and served. Within a few mins the place was packed out. Great flavours, nice portions and fair prices for the only Indian restaurant in Xlendi. Engaging staff, friendly and polite. Speedy but not pushy service with a smile. Highly recommended! Well done - will be back!

I live in Xlendi so I go to Sapana from time to time, especially when friends come to stay.
Frank, the owner, is so friendly as is Paul and the remainder of the staff.
I always enjoy the food, the ambience and just being there.
I am sad that someone on here compained about the food as they had travelled throughout India .... if they had taken the time out to talk to the staff they would have found out that the chefs are related and from Pakistan.
Having been to Sri Lanka the curries etc are so different there too.
I wish I could give the food and staff of Sapana 10 stars.

This was our favourite meal from our time in Gozo. We were served the perfect Indian food, and our service was so friendly and helpful. We wanted a break from pizza/pasta etc and it ended up being one of our highlights of the trip. Definitely pay a visit if you're nearby!

We went back again. Unusual to find an Indian in Xlendi and it didn’t disappoint. Lovely curries, not your classic authentic, but interesting twists. My Madras had coconut in, and it worked well. Lovely fresh naans. The staff very friendly and welcoming. Great wines. The onion bhaji’s were excellent, crisp and not doughy. An enjoyable meal.
