Good service. Good food. Waiter in a hurry to attend everyone. It’s worthy the price. But there many better options at same square.

Even though the location was in the square of ano mera, a place where tourists would like to visit, the overall experience at the restaurant was unpleasant. They were taking a long time when the restaurant was not even that busy and the waiters were...quite enough. There was a mistake with our dishes and another one at the check in the end. Overall, i would not visit the restaurant “vangelis” again anytime soon.More

Beautiful setting on the lovely square in Ano Mera. Set beneath two trees with plenty of outside tables. We sat right at the back on a table to have drinks awaiting a table out in the square at the front. Waited a while which was...fine. It was very busy as we now know there was some festival taking place. Eventually shown to our table only to meet with another family who another waiter had also promised the table to. Awkward. Another table was brought out into the square and prepared. We sat at the table and were then pretty much ignored for about 40 mins. Asked for more drinks but were obviously forgotten. Asked for a menu eventually. More tables came out. Then more. Clearly the waiting staff were not coping. Stressed and short and abrupt with it. We eventually got another drink and the menu. We ordered some bread, tzatziki and olives, which took a while but came. We ordered another beer, it didn’t show for a while. Came to taking our order and basically nothing on the menu was available. Just pork, or chicken or lamb, on and some potatoes and a Greek salad. Kids wanted fried squid and spaghetti carbonara and had been looking forward to it for over an hour. No joy. Salad came almost straight away. We are that first. Then the meat and one small plate of luke warm chips. All turned up and no room on the table as nothing had been cleared. Meat was good, chips were poor. Attracted by the setting and should have looked at TripAdvisor or taken the restaurant recommendation from our apartments.More

We thought Taverna Vangelis was wonderful. Our food & wine was good, the entertainment was fun, and they were very attentive. We wish we lived closer!!!!

Our group was craving some traditional Greek food away from the “touristy” area and stumbled upon this place. At first we were uninterested as Trip Advisor showed some pretty bad reviews. The owner/manager was adamant that we let him show us the spit where the...meats were roasting as well as the back where he told us that the food had been “preprepared...freshly”- (a little “oximoronish”) To some I can see where this would seem a little bit of a hard sale, but as a chef-for some reason I got his pride and passion for his establishment; we ended up eating here. The wine list was all in Greek and even the owner/manager was unaware of what wines they had. Personally I think the wines were a little pricier than other places we had experienced throughout Greece, but we ended up getting 2 bottles; they were decent... not good, but palatable. The service was very different from other places as well. They all were very pleasant, but it get as though they tried to steer us away from things we wanted; even going as far as telling us they had no pita for the grilled meats we wanted, but magically he “found some” then asked us in his own way to not let anyone see us with the pita. I get that he was trying to make us feel special... but it felt a little sketchy. We ordered Tzatziki, Hummus, Giant Beans, Saganaki, Grilled Veggies, Spit Roasted : lamb, chicken and pork. Tzatziki : probably some of the best we’ve had in Greece. It was well seasoned, just enough cucumbers and the little addition of olive oil for garnish just worked. Saganaki: We were persuaded to get the one made with the local cheese that was topped with honey; very glad we did this. The texture of the cheese was somewhere between a feta and a ricotta... but the flavor is difficult to explain. The sweetness of the honey cut the slight “sourness” of the cheese giving it a nice taste and mouthfeel. Giant Beans: These were served cold; the sauce they were in was flavorful. Hummus: Unfortunately, this was the only thing I did not care for. It was fairly thick and very one note. Others at the table enjoyed it; however, I did not. I tried adding more olive oil and lemon... even a little salt- it still did not work. Grilled Veggies: These were good. Personally I would like a little more char on them, but- that’s just me being extra picky. Overall the flavors were good. Meats: This is where I have a small internal conflict. The cook and seasoning on ALL the meats were perfect. My conflict is- the placement of the meats allowed for the lamb fat to drip down onto the chicken and pork. This adds to a very unique flavor onto the other meats: lamb fat. Personally I do not like the taste of lamb fat... love the lamb- hate the fat. This method in my opinion took away the flavors of the chicken and pork and gave it a gamier taste. This really bothered me because like I mentioned above, the cook and seasoning (less the lamb fat) was perfect. Even the skin on the pork was the perfect crispness that you love when you cook pork- except it tasted like crispy salty lamb fat. This did not seem to bother the rest of my party- so it might just be that I have an overly sensitive palate due to years and years in the kitchen. Ambiance: While eating here I truly felt like I was in Greece. The soft background music was older classic Greek music. The chatter of other local Greeks mixed in with the light breeze that’s constant here in Mykonos. The occasional off-putting smell of someone smoking a cigarette mixed in the the meats cooking over the coals We ended the meal by them bringing a beautifully plated bunch of small green grapes (probably the sweetest I have ever had in my life) and very firm, but sweet nectarines. Would I eat here again? Absolutely. 100% no questioned asked. If I were to order the spit meats, I would only order the lamb. I would order twice the amount of Tzatziki and I would try the other Saganaki in addition to the one made with the Myconian cheese. Don’t let any of the bad reviews change your mind. If you’re looking for an authentic experience- check them out.More

Compare to the many other restaurants around i found the food in this one average. One of my favourite dishes, the grilled octopus, was very hard and unpleasant to chew - in Greece they really know how to prepare it and it is normally very...soft. Also the waiter was pretty pushy asking us to order more and more, however over all polite and friendly. The atmosphere is nice, sometimes they have traditional dancing which is very intertwining. The Greek salad is good.More

This is our second trip to Mykonos and our 4th time at Vangelis Taverna. We have eaten at many other restaurants in Mykonos and this is by far the best. It is traditional Greek food, from the sides to the meat grilling on the spits....You have to try the lamb chops...we hadn’t until this last visit and we will get them every time. Everything is very fresh and the service is exceptional. The experience is worth the drive if you’re staying in the town of Mykonos (about 10-15 minutes) and they make you feel very welcome. I don’t understand the complaints about price...this is one of the most moderately priced places we have eaten in Mykonos and by far the best. Dinner for 3 with 4 sides, lamb, pork and chicken as well as wine was less than 80 euros. You are missing out if you don’t try this restaurant when you are in MykonosMore

The service was very quick, atmosphere was great. The meats from the grill are really really tasty, I ate the chicken bacon souvlaki which I've never saw available in other restaurants.
