Särä (lamb roasted veeeery slowly in a wooden dish) is a very unique meal in Finland, and this was the first time I tried it. It was simply delicious! You can eat as many portions as you want, and they say that the first three are appetizers, then you really start to eat. I had just the one portion and... More

The 'särä' dish is unique not only in Finland but in Scandinavia because of the way the lamb is roasted in a stone oven for six hours until the meat is so tender it melts in your mouth. If you like lamb, this is compulsory restaurant to visit, located in the village of Lemi, about 20 km North of Lappeenranta.

I went here with a group of friends for a week day dinner, and we booked a table in advance. The restaurant locates on a good site by the lake. First impression is a nice settings inside with cozy atmosphere. Waiters were friendly, and they introduced the dish to us. Lamb was really nice, and they kept coming until you... More

They serve "särä" which is very local style of lemi to prepare a lamb. It is served with potatoes, and desser is plum soup. The food is excellent, lamb is so moist and rich and the potatoes are delicious after cooking hours and hours with the lamb. And the best part is.. it just keeps coming after you clear the... More

If you have ever had some doubts about lamb meat this is the place to get rid of those. Lamb is cooked several hours in wooden crib in birch wood heated oven accompanied only with potatoes and salt. The result: delicious! Fill up your plate as may times you can...

We had Easter lamb särä here with family. The meat melts in your mouth, and for a big eater, the all you can eat is a good choise! The restaurant looks warm and welcoming but elegant. Higly recommend it!

We were in Finland visiting our Son and Daughter in law in Lappeenranta. We were told we needed to go to this place. The restaurant has an elegant but cozy feel to it. The food is excellent. I had my doubts as I am not a lamb eater as it is some times strong. But not here. They bake the... More

Different than any other restaurants I've ever been. Strict serving times changing from day to day since lamb is prepared 9 hours. You should go to their web site and look for which day and time is suitable for you. Your table is ready when you come with traditional bread, butter, local drink and water on the table. After that... More

We drove over 400 km round trip just to eat here. Actually I am sitting waiting for my fifth portion of lamb. Served only with potatoes and lamb fat dripping everywhere it is meat heaven. Huge woodfired oven. Shame it does fruit for pudding but even heaven has to have faults. Now where's my next plateful?
