Tuesdays in Matlock Bath is not a good night to find somewhere decent where you have not already been that is open! We set off to explore the surrounding towns and villages and happened upon a truly lovely pub serving wonderful food at Stretton just off the A61. Having enjoyed every minute and mouthful there we were surprised on our... More

Having read the reviews we tried several times before we could book a table at this popular gastropub. The menu is displayed on a chalkboard inside the entrance of the pub so it's not that easy to jostle with a drink in your hand and dodge other diners whilst you choose your preferred dishes. The dining area is very nicely... More

I've driven past the place hundreds of times before and never set foot inside. In fact had it not been for the Trip Advisor rating, I wouldn't have given it a second thought. An unassuming outer, gives way to and olde worlde interior with a blackboard menu of gastronomic delights. An exterior banner celebrates a gastro pub award and whilst... More

Warm welcome and prompt service. Ordered drinks and sat down to decide what to eat. Landlady went through menu with recomendations. We all ordered steaks which came cooked exactly as ordered with very tasty sauce. Desserts were great too. Will definitely be going back.

I'd really recommend The White Bear, both for the excellent food and the relaxed atmosphere. We've visited many times with friends and family and celebrated many occasions here over the years. The menu always leaves you spoiled for choice but never disappointed. Unfortunately as small children are no longer allowed we have to wait a few years until our youngest... More

Went to this restaurant with my wife and two friends last night, 19th June. We were greeted warmly by the delightful lady who I believe is the owner. Her husband is the superb chef there. I had the duck breast. I think it is probably the finest duck breast I have ever tasted. Well done chef, quite wonderful. The young... More

Was really looking forward to eating here, I've heard alot of good things about the food. So I booked a table for 8:30 for my husbands birthday. When we got there the barmaid seemed flustered for some reason as it wasnt even buzy, they was only two couples at the bar and to tables eating. All the staff look miserable... More

We ate here last night and, as usual, the food was excellent. We were spoilt for choice with the dishes on offer but after much debate I chose calamari with chorizo to start (delicious) and Kleftico lamb for my main (absolutely divine). After paying, we happily left the restaurant only for one of the staff to literally run after us... More

Just had dinner with my wife and friends and the food was absolutely superb. I'd go as far to say it was amongst the best I've eaten. Can't believe I've driven past it so many times and never eaten here. Great service from very friendly staff.

Despite driving past this place many times over too many years I had never been in till recently. It used to be a normal pub which closed years ago only to reopen as a restaurant. Its a very old cosy looking kind of place but for some reason the atmosphere didn't seem to match. It has a decent menu, reasonable... More
