My friends and I had previously visited The Spotted Cow on our annual weekend away and we decided to return again this year as the food was amazing... but not this time! We were so disappointed I feel I have to flag - The pub...has obviously changed ownership and has seriously gone downhill. The staff were pleasant enough, but there was a mix up with the table service and my friend received her food way before the rest of us which was actually meant for another table (the only other table of people in the restaurant)...very awkward situation... and the food itself was awful, very VERY basic pub grub which we were just not expecting. When we asked for some condiments the lad serving us quite literally threw a handful of ketchup packets on to our table... this is such a huge shame as it used to be a lovely pub with fantastic food! :( disappointing.More

I can tell that the pub has spent a lot of money making itself into a gastro-pub. It is finished really nicely and has a large capacity. Unfortunately the food does not match the setting, the menu whilst small, is not very varied (small is...usually a good thing.) . If they can hire good cooking staff, I think they could be sitting on a little goldmine.More

The reason I have posted the question below is because I called to book a table for two on Thursday evening, to be told by the manager, (can’t remember his name), that due to the “2nd chef” being away they were unable to serve any...food at all for the week... Seems strange to me that the head chef can’t make dinner for a few covers in the evening without his “2nd chef”. Very disappointed.More

My partner and I together with our 2 year old have just visited the spotty cow for lunch. The food was lovely especially the chilli burger. The staff were very friendly. Highly recommended if you’re in the area

I looked at your menu and see there are veggie optoins everyday except Sunday. Having read some reviews I saw that someone else wanted a veggie Sunday roast and was given a plate of vegetables. How about a nut roast as vegetarians do eat more...than vegetables.More

Visited for lunch today and was severely disappointed, as previously both the food and service were lovely, but not on this ocassion. On a previous ocassion I had the burger and chips and raved to everyone about the chips being proper 'homemade' crispy chips with...amazing onion rings, on this ocassion, the chips were the usual 'oven chips' despite being described as 'twice cooked'. The burger was dry and the bun did not look like it was brioche and just had a lettuce leave and sliced tomato thrown on it. The menu detailed that there would be two daily specials, however, the person serving us did not give us any information about these, or even point us to a board if that was were they would be detailed. Despite the resturant area being deserted, the service was terrible - the person who served us was not friendly nor welcoming, despite empty glasses we were not approached to ask if we wanted more drinks, our plates sat on our table for a long time and when being cleared, we were not offered a desert menu nor coffee/tea, as such we asked for the bill and left pretty sharpish. I was so disappointed as I have always had a lovely meal with welcoming staff, all I can say is that it must be under new management, if so then it is a change for the worse.More

At lunch, the pub wasn't but the staff were flustered as the manager and chef had not turned up. After being seated we were given the wrong menu. The chef (not barman) eventually took our drinks order. Once our food order was taken the service...was fairly quick, the food itself was average but freshly cooked. When we paid the barman was unprofessional and rude. He was stressed at being short staffed and was swearing at not being able to calculate our bill. He took our payment and walked off without so much as a thankyou!More

What has happened to our lovely local!! Been taken over recently, not serving food! And when they do it’s when they can bothered! But no menu ,Sunday lunch not bad,but the rest is i awful! had fish the other night as it was fish and...chip Friday apparently!.was like rubber not edible! Wouldn’t feed it to my dog!!..place is cold no fire on,no atmosphere anymore, the toilets smell water for urinals not working!! no cleaning or hygiene, such a shame as it’s always been a lovely pub with great food and atmosphere! Now it’s dead and I know why!More

We have been going to the spotted cow for lunch for a few years now and it always amazing! But it’s now under new owner ship, service terrible, food a bit like a school canteen, the guy serving us had dirt under his finger nails...🤢 and at the end of the meal he told us a total but couldn’t give us a bill and ended up having to write it all down from the menu. So disappointing, wish I knew where the previous management were now as they were exceptional. Won’t be returning!More

We called to book a table and was advised there are under new ownership. The kitchen was not up and running, but they were able to offer Pie & Mash on the locals night (Wednesday). I like this pub/restaurant, lots of character. The waitress was...nice, very pleasant. It was not busy, but the pie and mash, plus a drink each for £10/head was good value for money.More
