This was the closest eating establishment to the campsite we were on. What a surprise- food lovely. Menu very good and portion size ample. Ales varied too with something for all our eclectic tastes. Does get busy though as we noted many of the campsite were there. We were 10 people but still managed to get seats as arrived early.... More

Thor pub is lovely. Really friendly staff and a great setting. We had the dog but the bar was dog friendly so we could all eat together. The barmaid was really friendly and chatty and when a glass of wine was spilt she refilled without charge! Lovely food, we all had ciabattas with homemade chips! All plates were clean! Excellent... It's a popular Peak District spit-and-sawdust pub with great beer and very good food. There's some real cooking taking place here and we thoroughly appreciated the effort put into our meals on a busy Saturday in July. There's a choice of home-brew and the "9 ladies..." tawny ale was one of the most delicious pints I've enjoyed in a long... More

We are staying in Birchover on holiday, and decided to try the Red Lion for Sunday lunch with some friends. We were pleased to see that a carvery was available on Sundays, and we all chose the carvery option. Delightful staff served us really succulent meats and a generous sides of Yorkshire pudding, stuffing, roast and new potatoes plus vegetables.... More

We visited this restaurant on a very rainy night and it was fairly quiet. We had a friendly welcome and were surprised by the unusual menu - not the usual pub grub choices. Our meals were delicious, generous portions and reasonable cost. Desserts were very yummy

The pub was nearly empty, the menu was uninspiring and the food was dull. staff were helpful even with the odd system where you could order wine from the waitress but had to go to the bar for beer.

We have tried to contact this customer in order to establish the date and time of this visit, so that we can investigate further. The system of ordering drinks as mentioned in the review is not how we work at all and we are sincerely confused by a report saying that the customer was unable to order beer from the... More

Warm welcome, great real ale but average food and little choice for children on the menu, although a selection of reasonably priced lollies saved the day.

You won't find nicer people with such a passion for their business. Definitely recommend a visit. Very clean, good atmosphere, family and dog friendly. Food is great quality and great range of drinks. X
