We ate at The Red Lion after a disappointing experience at the Druid down the road. Despite having no tables available, they were very accommodating and sorted a table for us. The food, staff, and atmosphere of the place were first class.

Excellent location for access to the Nine Ladies Circles for walkers. Great circular route taken from Winster, onto the moor and through Birchover. Food was very pleasant, with big portions for hungry hikers! Dog friendly, nice beers/ciders on draught and lovely staff. Would definitely visit again!

We visited 'The Red Lion' over the weekend whilst camping at Barn Farm just up the road. This is a cracking village pub, full of character and a welcome place to have a few beers after a long walk. We didn't eat here on this occasion but have done in the past however the food coming out of the kitchen... More

What a welcoming place this is, especially after a walk. We booked a table for Sunday lunch as we didn't know how busy it was going to be. I am glad we did! They had a carvery which I most enjoyed and it filled me right up for the rest of the day. The food was very affordable £7.50 for... More

My husband and I visited this early evening and ordered the curry with a side of chips. The young barmaid was courteous and helpful. When the meal arrived, we sat outside as it was a lovely balmy evening, we were amazed at the size of the portions. They were a great size for two hungry blokes. The food was tasty... More

Had lasagne I think, looked like it had been scooped up & put into dish, where was the lasagne. Asked for salad of toms, cucumber & carrot for kids got peppers onion & toms, no cucumber or carrot available ? Dish hot so daughter burnt her hand no warning that it was hot. Then chocolate brownie more like sponge. Finished... More

This place was not really what I was expecting, we were hoping for a nice mix of country pub and Italian style. The food was mainly pub grub with three or four Italian dishes thrown in, it was delicious though!! The pub part looked lovely, but the restaurant was sparsely decorated with plain walls and it was very loud. We... More

We are so sorry to hear that your experience with us at The Red Lion wasn't as good as it could have been. Whilst we try to maintain a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, on a busy weekend in summer, this isn't always completely within our control. The other customers present that evening unfortunately had an adverse effect on you and... More

I love the Red Lion and highly recommend it. The food is home cooked and very reasonably priced which is a rarity in the Peak District National Park! The owner is from Sardinia so there is a Mediterranean spin on traditional pub food and the portions are ultra generous.

This was the closest eating establishment to the campsite we were on. What a surprise- food lovely. Menu very good and portion size ample. Ales varied too with something for all our eclectic tastes. Does get busy though as we noted many of the campsite were there. We were 10 people but still managed to get seats as arrived early.... More
