About
At the heart of the picturesque Kentish village of Ulcombe can be found the Harrow Inn. Unfortunately, due to the rapid decline of pubs in England, the Harrow pulled its last pint in 2007. On 3rd August 2019, the pub opened its doors once again, showing off a cosy and modern décor with a sleek bar.

We really enjoyed the reggae and roast last week and decided to return. We had no power at home, following the storm and were so grateful for such a warm welcome back to The Smoke and Cured. The staff were so friendly, we warmed ourselves by the fire and ate some delicious food including complimentary samples. Before we left we even filled our flask of hot water. Can’t wait to return again.

I contacted the harrow to book a meal for my wife’s birthday, although the date I booked was usually a pizza night we were offered a one off taster meal, this turned out to be a memorable evening with first class service from the moment we arrived. The food was fantastic and delivered with knowledgeable expertise and pride. We were made to feel so special, it was a wonderful experience. Can’t wait to revisit

The quiet pub hidden in the countryside never disappoints. The heart and soul of the place starts with the staff. So helpful and charming. The food is amazing and so prettily presented. I have been many times and will keep continue returning. The Sunday Roast is a must!! We recently held a 40th birthday here with 30 close friends and family and they catered for the party extremely well providing a short menu for guests to choose from. The music was also a delight!! Please book. You will be sure to have a good time!

After seeing so many 5 star reviews I thought we were on to a sure thing, booked a table for 8.15pm, arrived early for a drink, we were greeted by I guess the manager/owner? Told our table was ready, decided to have a drink in the bar and was told if they get drinkers in they would have to move us to our table. We sat down at our table at 7.45, no menus given to us, we asked for menus 3 times, was told once by one member of staff ‘your table was booked for 8.15’ and bang on 8.15pm a lady appeared with the menu’s (she even had the cheek to look at her watch and confirm the time)! Couldn’t wait to get out of here, ordered fish and chips, supposedly haddock but I don’t think so, also ribs which were actually really nice, the wait for food was about 45mins and not worth it, I suspect everything is bought in here and not made on site. While I appreciate they had staffing issues it would have been nice to have been made aware of this at the time of booking or arrival, customer service was non existent. We would ordinarily have starters and main, on average we spend £100 as a couple when we go out in the evening however we couldn’t wait to get home! What a shame.

Quite an extraordinary experience! Walked in on Valentines not expecting to get a table….just thought we’d have a drink. Restaurant had 2 tables eating so we thought give it a try! Barman asked had we booked as not taking walk in’s?…quickly the owner corrected him and said as long as it’s the set menu…no problem…..as she is taking our order….neither of us do pudding…I said could we have a cheese board instead…the answer was I will ask the kitchen (bearing in mind their are two tables eating). Starter was a delicious Chicken Liver Parfait unfortunately more jelly than parfait….and while watching a poor lady struggling to carve a whole pheasant dumped on the table our main arrived….Braised Venison….well leather would have been easier to eat and one sprig of broccoli…nice parsnip purée….eventually when coming to clear plates I was asked if everything was ok? As clearly We had left the leather I said sorry no, braised venison should fall apart….with a raised eyebrow I was told she would let the kitchen know. 10 minutes on she arrives with one pudding? Cheese board? Apparently I didn’t get back to her? Pudding taken away I was offered a portion of Brie complimentary….we asked for the bill…were charged full price….be warned…appalling customer service and below average overpriced food! BTW one other table came in while we were there…hardly busy for Valentines night…now I know why!

As is always the case, Smoke and Cured at the Harrow laid on an excellent Valentines evening with cocktails as we arrived and a superb singer. The Valentines menu didn't disappoint either! Starting with dressed crab, tempura prawn risotto and a delicious chicken liver parfait. My wife chose a beautifully smoked fillet steak to follow and I had a wonderful braised venison dish with red cabbage, parsnip and parmesan fries. Finally we enjoyed a sharing dessert of black cherries and meringue. What a perfect evening!

We stopped here for dinner on a Saturday after a long walk. We were greeted warmly by Lina on arrival and enjoyed a drink in the beer garden before dining indoors. Lina was attentive, considerate and thoughtful. At 5:30pm, when the kitchen opened, Lina offered us the choice of staying outdoors or moving inside. She had reserved us a table indoors as she had consulted the weather forecast and rain was due in the evening. We accepted her offer of dining inside and we were glad we did, because it started raining shortly into our dining experience. We had the burger, which happened to be chicken that evening, and which was served in a homemade bacon bun with tomato, lettuce, avocado, grilled mozzarella, fries and BBQ sauce. It was the best burger we had ever had, full of flavour, yet not greasy or stodgy. The homemade bun stole the show. For dessert, we shared the chocolate fondant and the chocolate shortbread biscuit. Both desserts were melt-in-the-mouth and delectable. Overall, a Michelin star dining experience in a cosy setting in the beautiful Kentish countryside. We have vowed to return before long. Well done to the chef and the team for creating this gem!

Our first visit and we totally enjoyed it from start to finish. We went as a family and friends with a child and a baby. The pub is so child friendly. The waitress (I wish I knew her name!) was fantastic, welcoming and helpful. From her approach with our daughter to the way she helped with the logistics of having children there (buggy space, high chair etc.) When the baby knocked a drink over she helped and made it all OK and not embarrassing. We didn't see a children's menu because our daughter wanted a pizza and they made a children's size pizza with the exact toppings she asked for. The only downside would be the lack of baby changing table in the men's toilet, there is one in the female toilets. Then the food arrived and WOW. Tasted amazing, portion sizes were good. We really enjoyed it. We had a charcuterie sharing platter, Beef tartare, ribs, chestnut and truffle gnocchi and a child's pizza followed by various hot drinks, panacotta (so flavoursome) and a child's ice cream. All were fantastic and excellent value for money. We will 100% be going back!

Thanks for your review! The waitress who helped you out was Lina, who is also one of the owners. We apologise about the lack of baby changing facilities in the men's, there simply isn't enough room in the stall to fit one in. There is a lock on the inside of the women's bathroom, so any dads who want to tend to their little ones can always use that one and lock the door behind them, so nobody else wanders in. We're glad you enjoyed your visit with us, we look forward to seeing you again!

We stopped off for a quick bite on the way home but it turned out to be one of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had. After all the staff introducing themselves 6 amazing courses followed, introduced and served by the owner and chef Eroll. There’s a great selection of drinks as well as a good wine selection, the best it has to be said was the Italian lager whichever never had before but would be worth the 25 minute drive any day!!! We will definitely be returning as we were informed about the live music Saturdays and Sundays are a reggae and roast day so we can’t wait.

My wife and I decided some time ago to visit Smoke and Cured as a joint celebration. Our anniversary and being able to eat out following the easing of lockdown. We were definitely not disappointed in our choice of restaurant/pub. When it came to ordering, Errol asked us if we’d like to try a tasting menu and what followed was 10 absolutely delicious courses over 4.5 hours. Food was to die for. Over the time that we were at The Harrow, all 5 members of staff came out to where we were sitting and introduced themselves, something we have never experienced at a restaurant/pub before. Considering the quality of the food our afternoon out was extremely good value for money.

Took my elderly mother in law with other family plus dog for Friday lunch. We were extremely warmly received by Erol and had a lovely table near the roaring fire. First off, the local brew was one of the best. Had the home baked bread as a nibble with our drinks. It was made with charcoal and flour but light and airy with a fab flavour and served with homemade herb butter (Erol grows and dries his own oregano!) I had the fish and chips. Fresh Pollock (sustainable 👍) in a light crisp batter which was cooked to perfection and the chips perfectly crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside. 11 out of 10! We also had the spicy chicken wings which were finger licking good. My mother in law had homemade celeriac soup which was utterly delicious. It’s not often that after I eat out I feel the urge to write a glowing review but The Harrow and our wonderful experience made me feel the need. Definitely going back for more.

I’d be suspicious now if all these 5 star reviews after visiting there last week. If you’re not aware, they have a restricted menu on a Wednesday, essentially fried bar snacks. Home made sausage looks and tastes like Tesco’s own and jerk chicken wings arrived with white rubbery skin - the only colour coming not from their cooking ( were they steamed?!) but just from the jerk seasoning. The website has impressive photographs of well prepared meals. Have you noticed that there are no photos of the interior? It may be a grade 2 listed building but the inside is B&Q 2022 throughout. One of the worst meal experiences I’ve ever had . Truthfully the two stars are for the pleasant waitress/bar staff. We left before dessert

I live in the area and this was my first visit to The Harrow since the 1970s! The recent re-launch under the present ownership has been very low key and I have only recently become aware of the revolution that has taken place there, so I popped in for lunch to check it out. The home made carrot soup was to die for followed by a perfectly cooked minute steak and fries. Relatively simple fare but the quality of the food and the skill and flair of the chef was obvious to see. Service was friendly, helpful and attentive to our needs. Unfortunately due to the weather a delivery of beer was overdue so the choice available was very limited and the bar/dining area is quite large and lacked atmosphere on a dark March lunchtime with only a few customers. But for these factors I would rate Smoke And Cured at The Harrow 5 stars. I intend to return soon for dinner or Sunday lunch and on this showing I am sure I will be able to re-rate this restaurant. Recommended.

We’ve now eaten here four times in two months. The food is really really good, way better than normal pub food. For example the starters include smoked anchovies, sea bass ceviche and beef croquettes. We also had a delicious mango jelly and lime sorbet, and the cheese board, which was perfectly ripe. There was a lovely log fire at one end, but we sat by the wood stove at the other. Service was very friendly and prompt. One suggestion is to remember to ask for the bread basket, as at least some of it (possibly all, but I’m not sure) is home made, and it comes with delicious herb butters

Worst ever meal in a restaurant. Without going into detail as The Manager knows full well how we felt about everything on the night. We will never return as there are too many things wrong about this establishment. Such a shame as we are local and had been wanting to eat here for a long time. In our 30 years of eating out we have never experienced such a bad all round experience.
