Zipped in over Christmas, very friendly welcome as usual and roaring log fire. Nice seating area and snug surrounds. Food menu looked very good, have eaten before and certainly this won't disappoint. A couple of local brews, like Bath Gem Ale.

Their home-made pie dishes are consistently good with tender meat, delicious gravy and fresh vegetables. Choice is sometimes limited and on a Monday night the girl on the bar wasn't sure they were doing food even at 830pm. Just glad they did as the beef and mushroom pie was delicious, excellent pastry.

So friendly and the food was great! Typical old English pub, but cosy and a great atmosphere. Met some lovely people!

We use the Nelson all the time when visiting our relatives and it never fails. The food is unpretentious and always tasty. The people who work here take pride and care with all they do. If you are passing by give it a try you will not be disappointed. Chris

My date suggested this place as one of her favourites for good pub grub, a chilled ambience and a warm welcome. It was a Thursday evening. The village of Marshfield is lovely, peaceful and pretty. The pub sits in the heart of it. Very inconspicuous from the outside but when you walk in its full of rustic charm, friendly staff... More

As a party of about 16 we had pre-ordered our lunches for when we had finished our walk. The majority were served promptly but a few had a short wait. All dishes were nicely presented and the food was was of good quality and adequate quantity for hungry seniors. All plates were empty which speaks for itself. Service and beer... More

During our visit our host Brian recommended the Lord Nelson Inn. And thank you Brian. It’s a Inn but food is like a top restaurant. It’s really excellent food and we enjoyed it. It’s a must if you are in the region.

I'm very sorry to have to write such a review but I came here for Sunday lunch with family and it was a bit of a shocker. The lunch carvery was of pretty low standard. Fatty meat which was hacked at. Tasteless vegetables, stale roast potatoes and cold gravy. I'm not sure if it was an off day in the... More

My husband and I ate here twice while staying in Marshfield--once for lunch and later for dinner. Both meals were wonderful. For lunch, we shared a plowman's lunch which included tasty ham, cheeses, greens, and pickled cabbage and onions. It was perfect. For dinner, we both had steaks which came with chips (fries), onion rings, and vegetables--all delicious. The atmosphere... More

The food here completely surpassed my expectations. Dinner was so good on our first night that we came back the next! Excellent flaky pastry on my steak & ale pie. Fish & chips - not sure if I've ever had as good before. Lots of garden fresh veggies to accompany our meals.
