Went here with my family of 8. Waiting to be seated and waited even longer (30 mins) before any service. The chef was drunk and the don’t trip over the bikes while you go the restroom. The restaurant was dirty and gross. Dirty crock pots...on tables as you past to get to your table. Not sure how the board of health approves this place.More

I ordered multiple times, they are quick to prepare and fresh. My favorite was green dragon roll, Philadelphia roll and spicy salmon.

We've been coming here for years now and it's great. The staff is super friendly and the overall service with the chef's are full of energy and always put on a great show. The food is good, my wife and I always go with the...filet and scallops. They are very accommodating too, if you like your food a certain way, they will do it. They have sushi as well and it's very good. The fire & ice is the best roll I've ever had, I highly recommend it. This is a BYOB establishment as well so that is a bigger bonus. The pricing is good too.More

Our kids took us here for dinner. Why have I never seen it before? The food was fresh, delicious and cooked exactly as we requested. The steak was SO tender! I was very impressed by how this establishment did NOT smell like burning oil and...smoke. So many of hibachi restaurants have such poor ventilation that you feel engulfed by it. Our chef was funny and “accurate “😄. We will definitely go back!More

I've watched this place grow from a small hole in the wall joint to a beautiful hibachi restaurant. My family has been visiting this establishment as long as I can remember and now my husband and I take our kids. Henry the owner is very...accommodating and friendly, the chefs are engaging and one in particular is fantastic with the kids (wish I knew his name).More

Behind their austere facade in a somewhat desolate shopping mall is this superb find - Asian fusion in the front room, hibachi tables in the back, two areas separated by a wall of glass cubes - so that, if you are eating in the front...and people are at the hibachi in back, you get to see the glass wall turn to flames. Great design! On top of that free show, you get some truly excellent dishes, with choices including Chinese, Thai, and Japanese. The Chinese menu is limited, but for the trade-off of a bento box, the rarity of a very good beef negimaki, and some other unusual fare, this one is well worth a drive and try. There are only 4-6 tables that really view the wall, so you're best off going on a weeknight to snag one of them. I haven't been there on a Saturday night, but on all the other nights I've gone, I've never see all the tables taken. Prices are reasonable for the portions and quality.More

Not bad. Not great. Just OK. We had lunch on a weekday afternoon. The atmosphere had a dreary, underlit, depressing feel, accented by a strange piped-in muzak that can only be described as New Age meets whale screams. We sat at a regular booth which...was not anchored to the floor and slid around easily. The hostess/waitress had a flat, detached demeanor, with an odd, staring gaze when questions were posed to her. The food was acceptable, but certainly nothing to warrant a second visit. Sushi and sashimi were fresh and nicely presented. However, the miso soup was lifeless, (possibly made days ago, and simply reheated) the iceberg salad with a glop of pink dressing was forgettable, and the beef teriyaki was overcooked and drenched in a commercial teriyaki sauce. There is nothing bad about Yamato, its, just a ho-hum, mediocre experience.More

We live in Bergen County where there is an abundance of ethnic restaurants, but to find a good Asian fusion restaurant in Sussex County is something to take note of. We have been to Yamato Hibachi Steakhouse many times, both with friends and with family,...and the food is consistently fresh and good. The weekends will find the restaurant packed with people both dining there as well as coming in to pick up and carry away. During the week nights or for lunch, it is relatively quiet and not crowded. The atmosphere is like most Asian restaurants - sparse decorations (and this is a new venture for the owners so they have not redecorated thus it is a little bland inside.) Do not be put off by this. The staff is polite and efficient. The menu is comprehensive and you can find anything Japanese, Chinese or, of course, the hibachi experience. We usually eat in the restaurant side, but on special occasions we have eaten at the Hibachi tables (reservations recommended) and the children just love the unique experience. The restaurant is clean and the prices are comfortable. It is a BYOB too, which always makes me happy. Try it and see for yourself - I do not think anyone would be disappointed with this restaurant. Oh, and by the way, it is located in a small strip shopping center right on Route 23 North, so there is plenty of parking available.More

So I ate here in the summer and the food was excellent. Filet Mignon and shrimp...awesome chefs too. So I made reservation for hibachi for a friend and I for tonight (Friday) on Wednesday afternoon of this week. Plenty of time. I show up with...my friend 10 minutes early an lo and behold our seats are not held. Tables are full and the chefs are just starting to cook...and we get the old you have to wait...seats will open soon...meanwhile noone has even started eating and we are waiting for 15 minutes. Needless to say we ate pizza at Franks...always excellent but Yamato lost good customers.More

They act like they are not interested in their clientele. The food is OK but very dim inside and dated. Noticed wet marks on ceiling.

The food here is SOOO GOOD!! It was 95 degrees outside and I was skeptical in going to a place where food was cooked on a hot grill in front you, but WOW was this place fantastic!! You do sit with other couples/families, but it...makes it more fun to meet people, or you can keep to yourself, if you chose. The salad with ginger dressing - holy holy yum!! The soup is delicately delicious, but bring on the steak shrimp and lobster!! Done to perfection every darned time!! Cuts like butter! and the dipping sauces - I want to lick the bowl! So glad they opened in our part of the world!! Will go back again and again - just don't forget to stop and pick up your own bottle of wine (or your preference) as they do not serve alcohol. There IS a liquor store right next door!More

My adult family & I have been to this relatively new restaurant several times which sits quietly in the small shopping strip on Route 23 in Wantage, NJ. We initially went in because we heard their sushi was fresh & good. We have since returned...many times not only for the sushi but for Chinese food, for Hibachi steak & shrimp, and for other dishes. The food is consistently good, and the staff could not be more accommodating. The decor is typical Asian decor, and the restaurant is clean and nicely furnished. During the week, it is quiet and you will most likely always find a table there. On the weekends, not only is the restaurant busy & full, but folks come in for take-out orders too. It's a busy place. This is also a place nice enough for a special occasion dinner. We also like that it's a BYOB restaurant. In Sussex County, there are not a lot of good restaurants so this definitely should be listed in that category. You won't be disappointed, no matter what you select.More
