When you want to stop, look him in the eye and wish him all the best. When you look at children and you know they are nice. When your teenager treats you to dinner :)
You get this at the Kobjeglava inn. Delicious, friendly and...like it’s just for you.
Thank you all of you!More
Location and atmosphere are good.
They serve primarily degustation menus.
Soups, sweets and vines are fabulous.
Main dishes are rather problematic: some with bad taste, all of them with extremely small amount of food.
Right in the heart of Karst. Way out of the well -trodden paths, highways. A jewel of a restaurant, previously ham tasting part of a ham curing facility built a few decades ago. Lovely interior, especially in the colder months, when you can enjoy your...aperitif in a cozy room with an open fireplace, then continue in the half-circle part of the restaurant with a great view through glass walls of a brightly lit tree on the terrace. Tables perfectly set-up. Restrooms far from big, still, they are very well kept.
Service exemplary, definitely among top five in Slovenia, adding friendly smile and all info required to perfect professionalism. Wine list well composed, based mostly on Karst, Vipava and Brda wines, several older vintages. Markups ranging from surprisingly low for wines of good friends of the chef (some top ones!) to relatively high for some more obscure producers. Nice range of sparklers&champagnes. Key issue: food. You can only decide on the number of entries , from 4 to 7. To avoid complete mystery they will tell you, however, what the chef is preparing that very day (strong seasonality). You are also given two alternatives for the main course. Dishes are based on the local ingredients, prepared with a great deal of creativity. The self-taught chef is one of the very few such in the country. Basically all dishes we tried were enchanting, with the mains perhaps the least persuasive. Do not miss their own 58-months cured ham and trout tatare! Anyway, 16+ on my 1-20 scale for the kitchen. One of the best restaurants in Slovenia, one of the very few a gourmet would love to return to the following day already.
Luxury experience. Highly recommended to all ye foodies, a 2 Michelin star level for a price of a no star (hope this will not change…)! Nearest place to stay is Štanjel, a few minutes drive away. But beware – the restaurant was closed this summer because they transferred their activity to a secondary Štanjel castle location. It might happen again next summer, so check well ahead for June-September.More
The emphasis is on local and seasonal. Every component is treated to be enhanced. A collection of interesting ideas that combined do not leave you wanting for more. A nonlocal amuse-bouche, a composed soup that was more a collection of unsynchronised ideas, a sorbet to...forget and a main dish of lost side dishes with a meat so salty and infused with herbs that left me with a concrete indigestion until the next day. Anyway, we were fortunate to try a special menu; therefore, we do not know if it reflects the usual offer of this restaurant.More
First I do mean the food. We had no choice but must select our dishes out of a six or seven items list orally presented. The four things we chose were average, not more. We were in a lot of other Slovenian restaurants without Fodor...forks, where we ate better. Mediocre also was the wine choice which was made for us: a Mersault type of white, whereas we had asked for something light and dry. And the "best" was, third in line: They charged 40 Euros for this bottle as well as for one (lighter and drier) that we took home with us. The total bill was around 140, and 80 out of this for two really simple bottles of white wine. I do not like to argue about prices when with company. But this was really quite brazen, and the reason why I do not recommend to anybody to visit this establishment.More
