Proper pub, good beer, good food, friendly staff!

Came for a friends Birthday and it was really good! The pub is a really nice venue, comfortable and relaxed atmosphere with friendly staff The menu was very good with lots of choice and plenty of specials all at a very good price. The food was very tasty as well with good sized portions Would recommend and look forward to coming back

Amazing hidden little gem

Went there 28th November with sister and brother in law and wow wasn't we surprised the food was a definite 11 out of 10 everything freshly cooked and locally sourced or even made on site. And having awkward dietary requirements nothing was any trouble for them . The atmosphere was really sublime it wasn't noisy everything was clean and everyone was really friendly , this hidden gem is now top of my list for places to eat out.(even the chef came and spoke too us and had a laugh with us ) would definitely recommend to visit this quiet country pub you couldn't wish for better

Worth a visit

Booked in for Sunday lunch with family down from up country. Between us we had a variety of the meats on offer and both size plates (we were 4 adults and 2 children). All of the meats were flavoursome and came with excellent home made yorkshires. 2 large serving plates with ample portions of a variety of veg, obviously fresh and prepared on the premises. Good range of deserts available. Waitress was friendly and and attentive, but not overbearing. Was being used by locals and visitors alike. Nice pub.

Average Food, Long Wait Times, More Staff Needed.

Too long a wait for less than average food, roast dinners that had obviously been warmed up from the afternoons sitting, anaemic roast potatoes, complete lack of taste. I personally had the beef, and it wasn’t anything different from sliced sandwich beef you get from the shop. Obvious lack of staff, very long wait inbetween courses and to be asked if we wanted any more drinks. Nice interior however, looks the part for having a drink.

We popped into this local pub on arrival of a short break away. We were greeted pleasantly and told there would be quite a wait for food which we accepted.We were Shown to our table and I asked waitress if we needed to order drinks/food at the bar. We were told no someone would come and take our orders. We ordered drinks then food and waited nearly an hour and half for food, we ran out of drinks and called same waitress over for a drinks order she was very rude took drinks order and when she came back with drinks I apologised for putting her out and said should we have gone bar for drinks? No it’s fine she snapped back. We sat waiting patiently for food and witnessed the waitress and another one being extremely abrupt and rude to other customers too. Food arrived and it was served with rudeness again. We called waitress over for more drinks asking if they prefer us to go bar No it’s fine the young waitress snapped back. When she returned I said There is no need to be so rude, I understand your busy and have asked several times if you wanted us to go bar and was told No, I can see your very busy with food and at bar ( 10 deep) but it’s not acceptable to be so rude. She answered OK no apology. Food was also very bland. Thankfully we found a much nicer pub for our next meal. I understand Staff in hospitality are under pressure at busy periods but there is no need to be consistently rude to paying customers who had asked if we needed to go bar for drinks.

Had a great lunch here after our walk one Friday, so found another walk close by the following week so we could lunch there again. Some pubs are unhappy or unwilling to accommodate groups but we had a warm welcome from all the staff. We preordered which is not a problem and understandable out of season. Food arrived in rapid succession so we could all eat together. Good selection, reasonable prices and very generous portions. Will be looking for walks in the area again!

An incredibly long wait for an average meal.

The food was okay, but what an incredibly long wait. We booked for 6:00pm and we’re told there was a bit of a wait for food when we were ordering. The place was not very busy and, despite them serving food from 5:00pm, nobody seemed to be getting served. 57 minutes after we ordered our meals arrived. They were decent, but we have never waited this long for a meal, even in busy establishments. There was no explanation given for the delay. Very strange.

We have supported this lovely village country pub throughout Covid and beyond. Last week Jane and I decided to call on the off chance and we decided beforehand it was going to be fish for our evening meal. The pub was busy and they managed to find a table for us. I choose their large battered fish n'chips with garden peas (small is available) and Jane choose the small scampi and chips also with garden peas. When served to the table it was hot and the presentation first class. We both enjoyed our meal and was tempted by a desert. If your thinking of a desert you must try their range of cheesecakes and sundaes. Absolutely delicious. If your looking for first class pub food at a reasonable price in a good atmosphere you have found your pub!

Great food, service and access

We went here for a family Sunday lunch. There were 5 adults and 2 children. The service was amazing. Everyone was really friendly and nothing was too much trouble. They even brought us two activity packs for our children. The roast was excellent, a wide selection of meat and cooked perfectly. Great selection of veg too. We had our 95 year old grandmother with us and it was easy to access for her down a ramp and into the pub. Highly recommend

Nice Pub shame about the food.

Nice pub but the food was most disappointing. My wife and I ordered the 'Pie of the Week' which was steak and ale served with chips, peas and gravy. The pie crust edge was like trying to bite through a piece of concrete and much of the steak was very chewy. Neither of us wanted to eat all that was presented to us. We were not asked if we had enjoyed our food, which under the circumstances was probably fortunate. Have a drink here but eat at your own risk.

Found this village pub on the way home to Mevagissey. A lovely village pub with a great varied menu. The homemade pies were delicious & just what was needed after a long day out & at a reasonable price. Friendly staff especially the young waiter .

Great first visit

Having driven past the Hewas Inn many times over the past forty years I finally found myself staying locally and so ventured there for dinner one evening. To be honest, I can not speak highly enough of the service provided along with the quality of the food that I was served. The staff were very courteous and professional, both behind the bar and in taking my order for food which included some advice in what they felt was the best choice, they weren’t wrong. I’m back again in two weeks time and will certainly hope to dine here again.

Excellent choice of food, tasty and homemade. Made such a refreshing change from the usual typical pub menu. All the staff were very friendly and welcoming. They were also happy to accommodate all of our specific requests from the menu choices. It really is a must try should you be in the area. Highly recommend.

Terrible Service!

We visited the pub after booking a few days ahead for a meal. Once seated we gave our order for food, and waited.......and waited. After an hour and a quarter we still had no starters, but had been told that the kitchen were struggling to get our order out. Hard to believe when one of the plates was just olives and bread!! A large party had come in and were given preference over all other customers it seems, being served both starters and mains before us. We voted with our feet, and left. Bookings should not be taken when clearly the pub is not staffed to cope with the number of tables it has. One barman and two waitresses on a Saturday night clearly could not cope. Spoilt our night, very disappointed.

Good service, but!

Great. Friendly service. Main course was good, my wife's burger bread was inedible, seemed like it was frozen and then microwaved, but the venison was good nonetheless. Starters were small for the price. £6.50 for 4 chicken wings? And the same money for 4 calamari? That said the ribs were lovely The service was absolutely excellent. The waitress and host were brilliant and very welcoming. Great pub and thanks. Would recommend. However, fix the burger buns lol! And increase starter sizes. We eat loads of chicken wings, bought from Iceland where you get 20+ for £3.50....so!! As said, would recommend as the service was great.
