We usually don’t have bad experiences at this pub but this time was not good . My husband had a rib eye steak which was a slab of fat the tomato and mushroom were cold really not good! I had the sausage and mash, I...thought I would get thick onion gravy, no it was water , so we think it will be a while before we visit again. Also we ordered a bottle of Malbec , I love a proper good 14% slap you around the chops Malbec this was neither very very poor and it was Argentinian as well any way we will be giving it a rest for a whileMore

Well it has been a long time since we had the time and energy to go for Saturday lunch. We have tried but every place is crowded and not very friendly. We thought let’s go to the Pack Horse and see if the food was...as good when they served the fruits de mar (That was amazing). We were not disappointed from the friendly welcome we received on entering to the excellent steak and sea bass. The Hydes bitter was bob on - I like and have tried many beers. Great food with great service. It is good to see young hospitality staff who have been trained in how to serve people. The young man who was telling us he was going to Whistler to work will be an instant hit with the tourists, all the staff are a credit to the owners and themselves. The place has changed (in a good way) and the log burner in the main restaurant was banging ( For all you non Bury folks banging means excellent). Great lunch thank you.More

We have been back several times as always good apart from a few niggles. However, on this occasion, my lunch was a let down. The whitebait starter would be much better dipped in flour so as to give a crunch to the fish rather than...a soggy, slimy skin as done today without. GF can always be offered if needs be. The chicken main was extremely dry, the mashed potatoes were like a brick and the green beans were so hard l couldn't eat them; both of which we have found on every occasion. The meat and potato pie was good however the chips were undercooked again. Desserts were good as usual, so too was the service.More

We tend to go to the pack horse a few times a year and have never had a bad meal, staff are great, it’s been really enjoyable. However, on this occasion, we felt a bit let down. Me and my partner ordered the rib-eye steak,...I couldn’t finish it as the steak just didn’t taste nice, it was cold and was so thin! My partner finished his but said it didn’t taste very good either. My mum wanted a coffee as a quick pick me up after tea, the waitress couldn’t seem to grasp that it was just a coffee my mum wanted and instead decided to give us all dessert menus, come back take our dessert order and not bother with my mums coffee. She asked where it was and the waitress hadn’t even put it through whilst we were all tucking into our desserts! I want to say miscommunication but having been there and witnessed it, I have no idea where the miscommunication happened or why my mum couldn’t just order a coffee before everyone decided what desserts they wanted. It’s left us feeling a bit unhappy, and that’s a first for the pack horse. We usually come away with full bellies and very content.More

I had booked The Pack Horse after reading the reviews and I was thrilled that I had. The setting, atmosphere, ambiance, service and food were all excellent. As soon as we walked in it felt very bright and airy yet so cosy at the same...time, spotlessly clean and beautiful decor made wonderful first impressions. The friendly service was great and the food was wonderful, clean plates all round! We will definitely be back! Thank you.More

Last visit was disappointing and I did write a review which doesn’t seem to show on here?? Thought we would give it a second chance. Even worse, beef was chewy, stringy and inedible. Sent back the beef to be served the same stringy meat. Roasties...obviously re heated and hard. Not worth the prices and definitely will not visit again or recommend. Rather eat a pot noodle !!!!More

My advice would be book somewhere else! I had an awful experience in April for my mother's 80th birthday. I complained in writing after the event and did not even get the courtesy of a response!
