We went for a day-trip to Listowel and ended up being advised by a tour guide to make sure we stopped in Ardfert to try the food in Katie Brown's Pub. Ardfert was the opposite direction to where we were staying, but the passion the...man spoke with about the food made us realise he was a real foodie, so we travelled to try the food, and my goodness was it the right decision. The building, the atmosphere, the staff and the food were all outstanding. We very higly recommend a meal here. The food is cooked fresh, it's local and top quality, and the waiting times are just perfect between courses, so you have time to relax before the next plate. The prices are very reasonable, we paid €80 for a 3 course meal for two of us, and you can mix and match between the daily specials and the a la carte menu. Great value for top-notch grub.More

The restaurant was full when we arrived. The menu had lots of lovely options and there was also a specials menu. I ordered the lamb and the plate was huge and full of food. My husband ordered steak and it had a great crust on...it. The chips were crunchy. The dessert was also delicious and very large. Anne was sweet and helpful. Decor was great too.More

My wife and I stopped in for lunch here today, as we had not been at this restaurant before. What surprised us, as we are from Killarney, is the prices for their food are a good bit higher than 4 star hotels in Killarney town,...and Killarney town is known to be one of the most expensive in the country for dining. As an example, you can buy a very nice bowl of seafood chowder in a Killarney town 4 star hotel, and this comes with a basket of various bread assortments for €7.50-€9.50 in most of the Killarney town hotels (and typically somewhere in the middle). At Kate Browne's, it's €11.50 (Geez!!!) and if you place the 2 small/thin slices of brown bread that they give you side by side then you'll essentially be paying €11.50 for a small-average bowl of sea food chowder and one slice of brown bread. This is crazy !! For example, Killarney Height hotel (4 start) is €7.90 for the same thing, and so on. As we looked across the remainder of the menu we saw a similar pattern in very high prices for a very low-to-average country pub in Ardfert that has very basic seating, ambiance and essentially a bar type environment. The waiters and waitresses are very nice and pleasant so no fault there. We were there at 1:30pm today (Sunday), and the place was quite empty. We suspect that many others, over time, have come to realise that paying 5-star hotel prices for basic pub grub in an average country pub is not a good way to go. Alas, we won't be coming back and we would recommend the owners to price things to aim to attract and keep customers (new and old) versus lose them as they certainly have lost both my wife and I for good and for glory today.....More

A beautiful restaurant with excellent food. Staff were very friendly and accommodating and sat us next to the open fire, which was lovely on a chilly day! The food was excellent - both the duck and feta salad and the steak sandwich we had were...great, with the steak being cooked perfectly. Highly recommend for lunch or dinner.More

This was my first visit to the restaurant and I was greeted by Ann who came across abrupt and just said “hi” in an unfriendly manor. When she gave us our table she threw the specials menu at the table towards us and abruptly said...“the pork is out of stock and the rest should be there” and just walked away. This gave me a bad first impression on the restaurant. However Jessie then took over serving us and she was exceptional. She really made up for what Ann in my opinion lacked in customer service skills. Jessie at every encounter we had with her was so pleasant and friendly. She came across so genuine. She is an asset to the establishment. I had the steak sandwich and it was cooked to perfection. Definitely the best steak sandwich I’ve had. The vegetarian risotto was also great and very flavourful. My friend Mark who works here recommended the Baileys cheesecake and it was delicious. Great flavour of baileys from it. Overall the food was perfect and Jessie really saved this restaurant on the customer service side. Would recommend this restaurant.More

The whole experience was absolutely awful. The staff looked like they clearly didn’t want to be there. Not friendly nor nice at all. The manager looked and felt incredibly annoyed and angry. The taste of the water was absolutely horrendous and when we ordered a...coke to get rid of the taste, it came flat (no gas). Food took a very very long time to come out. My husband ordered a medium rare steak and it came well cooked. Everything else around the meal (my lasagna, the sides, everything) was covered in oil and grease. The chips tasted like the frozen ones you get from the store, with some relatively uncooked, almost white. The place was incredibly noisy when it came to them stacking and putting away dishes (every few minutes you’d hear everything crashing and banging) interrupting the conversation all the time. We would have love to order dessert but we didn’t want to be disappointed anymore since everything else was so bad. No one asked how the food was when it came to paying, probably because they knew the answer already. We quickly paid a left for a nearby store to get something to drink and wash down the taste of the greasy food. Prices are too high for that food. They need to either drop their prices or increase their quality. The only reason it is getting two stars is because one of the waitresses was bubbly and the place itself was rustic and warm inside.More

We were in Ardfert on a trip through Kerry as part of a longer family holiday. This was recommended to us by a friend who knew we were planning to visit Banna strand. I would definitely recommend this pub/restaurant to everyone who is looking for...a place with amazing food and excellent service. The food was delicious and generous portions given. The children and adults in our group were very happy with the range of options on the menu. It was great to see items that celebrated the produce of Ireland. Reasonable prices for the food and drinks. The staff were attentive to all of our needs. Keeping on my return list for future trips.More

Went here yesterday 14.09.2023 durung the during the day. Food was delicious and restaurant very clean. The service was appalling unfortunately. We received the wrong order and when I went up to the waitress nicely to let her know she answered me so abruptly saying..." I know, I know" well if she did know why didn't she come back to us and give us the right dinner we ordered. Then when she actually did give us the right mains after I said it to her she gave no apology and said "your alright" as she was putting it on the table as if it was our mistake. Bizarre!!!More

Called in in the hope of getting a table. Luckily one was found for us. A great menu. Many thanks to Clodagh for advising that smaller portions can be ordered. Was so good that we visited again some days later. Again the service given by...Louise and Michael was outstanding. Checking our food was ok and responding to our needs. Food to was great. Just a note for couples looking for a quiet meal. Book the tables at the front of the restaurant. Our experience of our table in the rear of the restaurant was that it was very noisy. Two families on two long tables having a rare old time and the children having fun. Not a criticism but an observation. I will definitely visit again. I love that the provenance of the food is available on a board. The food is too good to miss.More

We ordered childs sausage mash and beans. 2 of us had the roast lamb special which was enormous and my son had cod...in a lemon beurre blanc sauce with mash and veg. I found the veg a little too al dente but others liked it.A water jug and glasses were placed on the table. Service was very efficient , staff very friendly. Very busy with families when we were leaving.More

Yes, booking is necessary for ‘special’ days such as during the Christmas / New Year period, Mother’s Day. It gets very busy. Check it’s open first.
