Willing to change time of booking at the last minute with no fuss. Friendly and efficient staff served excellent food in a nice atmosphere. First time there in about 15 years and still fantastic.

Have eaten in Man Friday for 40 years. About 12 months ago I had a series of below par meals and decided to give the place a skip. Went back last week and regretted it. A small sole on the bone cost €41.95!! Tasty but...miserable. My wife had a steak that was as tough as old boot. Another member had scampi; said she'd get better in the local chipper. I should vegetables come as extra for another €4.50. Since Philip retired, Man Friday had changed, and not for the better. Adieu, old friendMore
5 star experience with the food and very nice lady serving us.brie for starter could have been warmer and a fantastic lobster presented beautifully. Mrs frankieboy had hake in a risotto and she says it was the best ever. Reasonably priced for top class food....Only negative is tables are very close together and some better than others.More
A reputation richly deserved. We both had grilled salmon which followed in my case the chowder with my wife having enjoyed the brie.Attentive service and a great setting .Glory be - even a choice of half bottles of wine as only I consume.A rarity in the...UK.! Thank youMore
Back again after the covid- induced hiatus. Really great food, with a strong focus on fish, and the early bird menu is fantastic value. Great view across the harbour, clean loos, & I want to especially complement the staff, who were lovely, & coped easily...with one of my extended family who wasn’t an easy customer!More
Man Friday is by far our favourite restaurant in Cork, if not Ireland. The quality of the food is always excellent. Faultless. The staff are the best of the best. Always smiling, professional and courteous - despite the volume of customers they have to serve...every day (220 ++). This is a family-owned business for over 40 years and the loveliness of this family is the bedrock of its success. It is now under the control of Daniel, the son of the founders Joss and Philip. The transfer has been seamless, with Daniel (and his team in the kitchen) delivering super performances daily. With most of the dishes being excellent it is hard to choose a favourite but the steaks are superb. Having a sweet tooth will further complicate your choice as most of the desserts are sublime. If you are ever in the Kinsale area you will not find a better restaurant ..... despite there being many great restaurants in the vicinity.More
I had made reservations several weeks in advance of our stay in Kinsale. I'm so glad I did. The atmosphere was wonderful - you could tell that this is a favorite among the locals - always a good sign! I had been warned that the...walk was up a hill from downtown Kinsale, but I did not find the walk difficult at all. My sister and I both ordered the salmon and risotto of the day. It was delicious and well prepared. Lovely view over the port. This was a perfect choice for dinner in Kinsale.More
Was really looking forward to returning to Man Friday for a family dinner. While we were warmly greeted and seated in the lovely conservatory with great views of the harbour, unfortunately the quality of the food offering was somewhat disappointing. Service was friendly and very...efficient. We had a mix of appetisers including seafood chowder ( little if any seasoning and very small amount of fish and lots of potato), pea soup ( very good), scampi ( average), mussels ( small mussels with quite a few unopened therefore not safe to eat). Mains included sirloin steak (ok but mushrooms/ onions were very overdone), mussels ( same issue as appetiser), scampi with roast potato ( same as appetiser). Ice cream dessert was delicious while crème brûlée was just ok. Prices are not cheap and given level of competition in Kinsale, would have expected better ( and have previously had better there). Restaurant was very busy but I would not be rushing back.More
We arrived for our booking at 19 .15,and we're shown to our table. We were presented with menu's and a wine list and special's list of the evening. That's when things got interesting we ordered a bottle of Chablis and the waitress ask if we...wanted the red or the white. For those not in the know it a White wine only. We then ordered. I went for the beef carpaccio and my guest went for the scampi. We both ordered steaks. With in 5 minutes the waitress returned to inform me the beef carpaccio was sold out. Not much of a special if it's gone so early. I choose the risotto of the evening. We barely had time to enjoy the wine when the starters arrived which made me think the risotto was pre made and sitting in a Bain Marie. Well it tasted like that as well. Best part of it was the parmesan chip that came with it. Our steaks arrived and to be fair they were cooked perfectly. But unfortunately the were both sitting on mushroom and onions that were cooked to death at least a few hours before hand. Which is not good enough for the price they are charging for the steaks. The chips were cooked perfectly and hot. We looked at the dessert menu and it said all desserts were homemade so decided to opt for the Apple crumble. It arrived pipping hot with a scoop of semi melting ice cream on top. Zero attention to garnish the dish. The crumble topping was lovely but shocked to find they are using pre prepared cooking apple's. I would have expected fresh apples in a home made dessert. The dessert was not finished. We left the table and headed to the Bar area to settle the bill. When asked by the manager I think how was everything I inform her about the dessert and got very defensive and denied this was the case. Even though it clearly was. We settled the bill which came to 160e. We definitely won't be back but just a little tip to the owners please train your staff. It will work for you a lot more .More
Off the beaten path but well known to locals. Very nice interior and good food with friendly service . Parking is an issue (problem for the whole town ) but don’t miss .
Elegant and modern decorated restaurant. The reservation required return of the table in less than two hours. This didn’t bother us because we usually finish before two hours. However, they first served a couple who showed up later than us. As the arrival of our...first course dragged on we started to get worried because of the limited time we had left, which made our dinning experience a bit less enjoyable. As a main course we ordered chateaubriand steak which was good but a little chewy for me. The waitress was nice but somehow our appetizer order was screwed up. View was beautiful. The place doesn’t have a private parking lot, and street parking was a bit difficult.More
Family of 8 visited for my parents 60th wedding anniversary and we had a lovely evening . The lady serving us was so nice and friendly and bought deserts with candles on for my parents which was a lovely touch . Food was served hot...( very important to me ) and very flavourful. Lovely surroundings and atmosphere . Thoroughly enjoyed it all .More
Visited this restaurant after many months away and really was looking forward to going with friends...beautiful table overlooking the sea...I ordered the chicken caesar salad which I have eaten in numerous restaurants...I received the Salad and it was a disgrace....a bowl of cos lettuce 1...streaky rasher cut into small pieces ...2 slices of a roll toasted ....these were the croutons...and a breast of chicken sliced on top...all this was smothered with dressing.oh yes and maybe cheese shavings ...as yet to be found. My friend was treating me and I was horrified to discover she was charged 29 euro for this ...I had a most magnificent one in kilarney recently and it cost 16 euro ..which I hasten to add is enough to pay for a salad ....I won't be back as it just left a bad impression.....people are stretched enough without this .More
Man friday was excellent. We all had different entrees and all were delicious and presentation was lovely. The pork belly, the Salmon, the lamb, and the hake on the risotto were all devoured and appreciated by us. For desserts we had the sticky toffee pudding...(so rich and delicious!), the berry meringue, and the apple crumble were all well done.More
We have visited Man Friday on every visit to Kinsale over many years and it was our favourite restaurant and we looked forward to our visit. What a disappointment on our latest visit. The food was distinctly average, and whilst I never mind an expensive...menu if the food and service is good- this was not. That said my salmon starter was beautiful but that was all. My husband asked for his steak well done- there is a difference between well done and burnt. The steak was so well done part of it was actually inedible. The staff were very friendly and polite, and also hugely apologetic when our main course order was somehow missed by the kitchen and we waited 50 minutes between starter and main course arriving- whilst watching the tables on either side of us, who ordered at the same time eat there main course and order desserts. I am sure this was just a blip and they did knock the price of a half bottle of wine off our bill. This did not however make up for the disappointment of the food or the delay to the main course. I am not sure we will rush to book again on our next visit.More
