We had a beautiful meal there tonight. The restaurant is recently touched up and looks amazing. The atmosphere was wonderful, as was the food. It was so tasty and satisfying and we had 4 courses (delicious oysters as a 2nd) plus tea and coffee for under €100 total. Couldn't recommend more highly. Visit and enjoy!

family dinner (12) - great vegetarian food, superb fish and meat dishes. Great sides and lots of the most popular side dishes were topped up without extra charge. Excellent range and choise on the menu, super taste and quality. Everyone loved their starter and mains and some had room for a gorgeous desert. Great food, great wine and vale for money. All the servers were great and made the whole experience even nicer. Highly recommend Jim Edwards.

An exceptional lunch started with some of the largest and tastiest oysters I have ever had.
Our main meal was seafood chowder which was absolutely delicious with chunks of fish and was not 'milky as one reviewer suggested.
We had a pint of Beamish with our lunch and the total was £52 for 3 of us
We were staying in Cork and travelled to Kinsale with the specific intention of dining at Jim Edwards!
I will go back again

We were on a weekend in Kinsale and found it very difficult to get a dinner reservation due to so many restaurants being closed for the winter. We managed to get a Sunday Bank holiday reservation for Jim Edwards. As it was years since we ate there we were really excited to try it again. The place was really busy and staff were running around like headless chickens. They clearly couldn’t handle how busy the bar and restaurant were. NOur starters were ok. Chowder and scampi. Nothing special really. Staff didn’t engage with us - they just flung the food on the table. Food was served at break neck speed. Trying to get drinks was so slow. They could have sold double if they were ‘on the ball’. Our mains were awful. The seafood gratin was mainly potatoes -served with a bowl of dry dry dry chunky frozen chips and a bone dry mound of plain rocket with no seasoning or dressing. It was really difficult to eat. If they dressed the salad with some oil and vinegar it would have made all the difference. Fresh cut chips with a little mayonnaise or ketchup again would have lifted the dish. My husbands plaice was served with little or no seasoning or sauce. The accompanying vegetables and potatoes were once again dry and bland. I truly felt I could have produced a better meal at home. There was very little attention to detail or nice touches to any of the dishes. The staff didn’t even ask if we needed anything or if our meal was ok. They were too busy running around. We had dinner on Saturday night in Fishy Fishy. The 2 restaurants were polar opposites. I would not return. I feel we would have had superior food in Dinos chipper.

Pub in downtown Kinsale, typical and cute inside. We had a burger that all in all was fine; unfortunately my fish au gratin disliked being a kind of "mappazzone". Service a bit slow and we had to eat on a narrow table, while they made sit 30 seconds later a couple who had arrived after us (and who waited in line for his turn, behind us) on the next table from 4 who was free and ready to welcome us. I understand the confusion and crowding, but to see them sitting comfortably in a corner and us in a skimpy place in a full passage area, I was not pleased.

Below average place for the area, way too many options around to be spending any money here.
The food took over 45 minutes to arrive, tiny portions, not to be expected based on price. Seafood ay gratin, is only fish, fillets au plaice are really small. They load you up with fries to compensate.

We went to Jim Edwards twice. They have delicious seafood chowder for about seven dollars. It is plenty for a meal, and is served with a roll or brown bread. the wait staff is very nice, and sometimes during the week they have two guys playing Irish music. They did have a two course prefix dinner that we shared. However the next night my husband got the Seabass, it was small and shriveled up and looked terrible. I would not order that again.

Thr service at this restaurant was virtually non existent. Had a drink and ordered and half hour wait for food despite other orders coming out before ours. Burger was overcooked and the roll was quite tough. We asked for a dessert menu. The waitress said abruptly, are you eating here (???), then a few minutes later threw the menu on the table without a word and disappeared. Rude. Settled bill even though they had no idea where we were sitting and spent our pudding money elsewhere. Oh, and no drinks menu either so you take a guess at what you want to drink. Poor.

We had a fantastic dinner at Jim Edwards. We knew we were in for a good night as the place was really busy! The place is split between a pub and restaurant (we ate at the pub) and both filled up quite quickly (a lot of patrons were directed to the restaurant as the pub was full).
Highly recommend their rib eye steak and peppercorn sauce - it was delicious!
My husband tried the Irish whiskey flights and enjoyed them too.
If we're ever in Kinsale again, we will be heading here for dinner!

We had a fantastic meal here. Staff were very friendly and attentive. Food was really gorgeous. Enough variety for all the family to have a meal of their choice. I had the duck breast which was delicious and I was delighted to be offered a side of additional veg. My husband had the monkfish and he savoured every bite - he thoroughly enjoyed it. The children had fish/ burger and chips. Portions were generous. Desserts were delicious also. Thank you!

Great Find, tucked away down side street. We didn't book and arrived about 7.30pm. we sat in bar to eat. The bar was busy with locals and tourists which is always a good sign. The place was spotless We ordered the Pate to start. We shared this it was a really big portion and had a lovely side salad too. For mains we both had the Sea Food Gratin and 2 glasses of Pinot Grigio. The total bill was an eye watering 71.00EUR this in our opinion was expensive for bar food, if this was the restaurant then maybe it would be expected.
We would definitely return for sure.

We’ve eaten here as a family for 20+ years now and not once have we been disappointed. Despite some of the more recent reviews, this family run restaurant offers quality food time and time again. The family are always friendly when we dine there and the service and attention is always fuss free and more than satisfactory. The menu is varied and always features the old favourites (deep fried mushrooms and seafood au gratin). Couldn’t fault this long standing establishment and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to anyone.

What a pity that such a renowned place has hit Rock bottom.
Staff with badly soiled clothing, Soup served in bowls that were not that well washed from previous times . Food itself was basic and ok it’s just discomfiting that the squalor in the surrounding makes one uneasy. The Blue water glasses were filthy. Not that busy maybe is a reflection on foot fall. Chowder was a pure with chunks of fish , Fish Gratin main meal was of similar vein with soft mashed potato and cheese topping. Salad was Rough and Crisply fresh . Wheaten bread was Fresh.
This day and age things should be sharper . As a visitor to Kinsale over the years it’s so Disheartening to see the change to standards.

We saw this restaurant while on a walking tour and decided to try it out for dinner that night. We were in Kinsale early in the week, so we decided to chance it without reservations and no problem getting and outdoor seat on the small public square where they had some live musical entertainment. Jim Edwards was a 10 minute walk from our hotel.
I had a dinner portion of mussels and my wife had a burger. Both were very good. They offered a decent list of specialty cocktails. Service was attentive but relaxed. The weather was perfect. Prices were acceptable but a little higher. That is to be expected in Kinsale, which bills itself as a "foodie" town.
A note for travelers from the US: tipping in Ireland works differently. In the US we are used to tipping 15-20% as a matter of fact. Servers in Ireland do not necessarily expect a tip (they get paid more than servers in the US) and if you pay for your meal with a credit card, they will run the exact amount on your bill. If you want to add a tip onto your card, you need to tell them how much to add before they run your card so they will run the amount with the tip. Tipping is also less than the US: a typical tip runs between 10-15% for exceptional service. Anything above 15% will be viewed as extra, extra special. You may not decide to tip at all. The rules for tipping bartenders at the bar are different than what I have just explained, but we never did that and I don't remember what it is.
