We dropped in by chance for lunch having been to Hadrian's Wall. The food was fantastic and the staff were very friendly and we got value for money and quick service. Definitely pop in again if we were in the area.

Dropped in for dinner and were very lucky to get a table without booking. We both had ribeye steak with trimmings and brandy and peppercorn sauce, it was delicious, compliments to the chef! We couldn't manage pud, but WILL be back for a second attempt before long. Thanks for a good evening.

We had never been before (2 adults /2 kids) and called in on spec, the Sunday Lunch was very good, lovely beef and proper homemade Yorkshire Puds. This is an ideal place for Sunday lunch if you are in the area, this kids had a mini fish n chips (which was a good size) and pulled pork, both were of... More

Called in with a small group of friends for a quick lunch and ended up staying untill closing time, i love this little inn, real ale, delicious hearty food, the atmosphere is so warm and welcoming. The fish and chips with mushy peas was so tasty and the 12 pints of ale after that were even better......10/10

My wife and I called here for an evening meal. There was a general buzz of busy-ness. You are advised to book to ensure a table. The staff were welcoming and the menu offered a good choice. My wife had Hake from the main menu and I chose Venison from the specials board. Both were nicely cooked and good portions.... More

Stopped here on spec for lunch on the way to the Lakes and it proved to be a good call. I had the monkfish cheeks done in a light and crispy batter with a dill sauce and they were delightful as were the chips i ordered to accompany them. My wife had the baked goats cheese on a bed of... More

We visited the Wheatsheaf midweek. We had main courses and desserts. Two of our party had the curry which they said was excellent. One had the fish and chips and one had the pulled pork - both came with superb chips. All were excellent portions. The desserts were slightly smaller but were again very good quality. The service was friendly.... More

Four of us had Sunday lunch, each choosing a different option from a varied menu. The quality of each meal was exceptionally good and the service was first class. Good local real ale and friendly atmosphere. Make sure to book to avoid disappointment. Highly recommended.

Lovely food on our visit, Sunday lunch was great, and everyone enjoyed their choices. However we were disappointed with the service. Two younger girls waiting on were quite happy to chat behind the bar, or sit at the bar talking, while we waited to order, then waited for our plates to be cleared. We had to ask to order, and...
