This restarant has a wonderful relaxing atmosphere , the staff welcome you with warmth and provide an excellent service. The meal is made very special by small added extras in between courses giving them time to cook your food to perfection. The menu is a little pricey however it is very good value for the experience you have

The first course of cauliflower pakora with raisin puree was spicy but not too overpowering.Flavours complemented each other. My main course of Barnsley chop, pea puree and saute potatoes was excellent. The chop was succulent and the pea puree was fresh, creamy and full of flavour. My brother enjoyed his plaice with asparagus and pancetta. I was too full for... More

Great food, location and ambience. I took my girlfriend for her birthday and we had a fantastic meal. The tasting menu is superb, especially when paired with the wine! We would recommend the restaurant to anyone looking for fantastic food!

Very good food, well presented, tasty and a bit different. Being in the Michelin guide it is difficult to get a table (turned away one night but fitted in the next). We thought we would go back at the weekend before heading for home. NO hope. Fridays and Saturdays were fully booked for the next five weeks so you have... More

We visited there with friends on Saturday. We have been there several times before and once again were not disappointed. The atmosphere in this little restaurant in great, the food is extremely tasty and well presented and the staff are very friendly and helpful. No negative comments to make at all. I would certainly recommend this place.

This is not a cheap eats restaurant and if you have mobility problems, the steep descending steps to the front door will be a put off. However, it is fine dining establishment and has recently appeared twice in the Times newspaper, has A.A. rosette awards and is in the Michelin guide. With all that exposure, the food is as you... A small gem of a restaurant in Matlock we have now been to at least 5 times over the last couple of years. Even if it isn't a special occasion, it feels like one. The food is very well presented, portions are not generally large, but the extra touches like amuse-bouche bite-sized hors d'œuvres you get automatically before your starter... More

We had a lovely wedding anniversary meal at Stones... Could not fault their food - excellent quality as always. I had the fillet of beef which was so tender and melted in the mouth.. My wife had the Sea Bream... Which again has lovely flavours. The deserts were amazing and again the coffee came with petit fours - what a... More

Description
Dinner - Tuesday to Saturday 6.30-9pm. Lunch - Wednesday to Saturday 12-2pm. Tucked away in the heart of idyllic Matlock, Derbyshire, Stones is a modern, eclectic restaurant with a stylish, welcoming interior and a superb modern British menu. The restaurant, which added a new riverside conservatory in May 2013, is jointly run by Kevin Stone, Head Chef, partner, Jade Himsworth and sister, Katie Temple. Stones' riverside conservatory overlooks the babbling River Derwent. The menus change seasonally to reflect the very best in local produce, and the wine to match the food. Stones' philosophy is to provide a fantastic dining experience in a relaxed setting. The dining room which is popular with couples, locals and visitors, is a perfect place for romantic, family or business meals. Stones has been awarded two AA Rosettes for culinary excellence.
