We were staying local for a few nights and this place was right on our doorstep and what a gem! The first night the food and service was fab and met a lovely couple that gave me the saying full as an egg which I loved! The second night myself had the chicken curry well I have never had a... More

We were staying nearby and weren't sure whether our teenagers would be up for the menu choices but we took that risk, they could starve! The pub is in a lovely location, the pub itself really nicely maintained. There were things our teenagers would eat on the menu, but when we went to order they only had one left. The... More

We struggled to find somewhere nice to eat with the dog when we were staying in the area! However the black bear in where very accommodating to us and the dogs! We even met some friends and when ringing to ask if we could come a little earlier and with two others they were happy for us to do so!... More

We called in Thursday night rather unplanned as we had just dropped my teenage daughter off at a local restaurant where she's just started working. Although we hadn't booked and it was busy, the lovely lady (owner I think) kindly squeezed us in without hesitation. It was a really nice atmosphere with a large Spanish group on the next table... The Black Bear takes a bit of finding, especially if you dare to attempt any shortcuts down the local lanes. However, if you are looking for good value food, of better than average pub food standards, it is well worth any effort that it takes to discover it. Our party had the locally sourced roast lamb and the roast beef... More

Visiting on a weekday evening it was encouraging to see the place busy with locals[ and their dogs! ] An imaginative menu - well cooked and presented- with speedy but unintrusive service - thankfully nobody said 'enjoy'.... which we did.Country portions on plates ,not tiles or slates, and no artistic sweeps of 'jus' -fresh vegtables, not overcooked. We'll be back !

Visited here on Sunday for lunch. A real pub feel. Lots of atmosphere. Food was lovely. Freshly cooked, homemade taste. Tasty, 'proper' gravy. We had lamb and beef dinners. Great veg too. Really, lovely welcoming staff. My Dad has alzheimers, the staff were so patient and accomodating. It was really appreciated. He enjoyed himself thoroughly. I will definitely be going... More

My partner and I couldnt decide where to eat so turned to tripadvisor for some inspiration and found The Black Bear had rated highly.....and upon arrival it was clear why. The rustic smell of a wood burner as you walk in was extremely welcoming, as was the warm reception from the landlady. The pub is beautifully decorated and the thick... More
