Looking for a venue between Cambridgeshire & North Yorkshire we came across the Royal Oak in order to meet friends "half way" How lucky were we to stumble upon such a great place-atmosphere is always cheerful, service & food standards are top class & the menu is wideranging & well constructed. Located within a mile of the A1 its an... More

Every time we visit we wonder why not come more often. The greeting is always friendly, the whole atmosphere is so hospitable and even other diners and drinkers make you feel as if this is your local. The food is well prepared and plentiful with enough variety to tempt even the most discerning of tastes. Nothing is too much trouble... More

We first visited about three months ago for a meal and have been back about six times since. The meals have been faultless and the beer (Marstons Pedegree) great. The staff are friendly, helpful and make your visit very pleasant. We will return.

What a lovely atmospheric pub and restaurant selling a lovely pint of Marston's Pedigree. The staff were pleasant and attentive with good food, maybe a little pricey for what is essentially 'pub grub' but the busy atmosphere on a mid week night speaks volumes. No small part was played by the pleasantness of the regulars who all said hello or... More

The royal oak is a lovely pub. Very welcoming and friendly staff. Nice quirky surroundings with a real country feel. This is the kind of pub you expect to find when you go for a drive in the country. Fair prices, very reasonable and excellent home cooked hearty food with generous portions. We love this pub on all 3 visits... More

Went here as a group of 4 and we all had Sunday lunch so didn't experience this place as a pub. Two of us had pork, two beef. The beef was cooked very well and exactly right for the different rareness each of the people wanted. Often places get 'rare' wrong, but this was done to perfection. I can't give... More

Stopped off for something to eat and drink following long weekend in The Lake District. At first one of our party asked if dogs were welcome, "of course" was the reply and a bowl of water was placed by a table put aside for us. Had a couple of drinks and a bite to eat and can only say how... More

Have visited a couple of times for the Sunday lunch menu, which has always been very good. Also called in the week on the off chance (opens at noon), and found the midday menu to be brilliant too. Chalkboard menu had an enticing selection ranging from chicken to fish to a lovely liver and bacon with chive mash. Main menu... More

I had been a couple of weeks previously for Sunday lunch for a friends 40th and was very impressed. I visited again to treat a couple of very good friends to celebrate his birthday. What a great choice. The staff were very attentive and friendly, the food was second to none, I struggled to eat it all but it was... More
