His 'secret' is the freshness of the food and to add a minimum of species to let the flavour of the dish it self stand out. We ate here 3 out of 5 nigths. The seafood was the best; fish, shrimps and crocodile.

We got here thanks to our taxi driver who recommended this place. We were a little suspicious at the beginning as we tend not to 100% trust taxi driver's when they recommend something, but we trusted our guts to give it a try and we do not regret at all!
It is not a fancy or luxury 5 star restaurant, but it is genuine, trully cuban and the food is treated with great respect. There is no menu but you can order 3 different types of meat / fish/ seafood or mix of everything on one plate so you do not have to choose just one thing but can try 3 or even 6 or more (depending how big the group).
We had here the best langosta ever and waaaaay cheaper (and better...) than in he most popular restaurant in Playa Larga. We regreted that we only got here on our last day in Playa Larga, otherwise I guess we would eat here everyday.
The restaurant is a bit outside of the center but it is worth a walk. The owner was very nice, he told us everything about the food, we had a really nice time, not only food was great but we also enjoyed almost homely atmosphere and chatting with the owner.

We loved this place in Playa Larga. Edel is a fantastic chef and her daughter is the sweetest!
The food was absolutely delicious and we can’t thank them enough for how special they made us feel.

Serves ILLEGAL Sea Turtle and Crocodile.
They confirmed that we did not need to worry as Both were Illegally sourced. But it’s “OK” cause the chef didn’t kill them herself!!
This was the final restaurant selected by our guide on a two week trip around the whole of Cuba. Other menu options included Fish, shrimp, Lobster, Pork and Chicken, so why the need to serve endangered species??
All tourists with a conscience especially anyone who comes here to Dive should boycott this place and their accommodation Hostal Raquel.

We stopped at this place because it was a little more than half way to Cienfuegos from Havana. It is located before the beaches of Playa Larga in the middle of a rural area among the chickens, goats, and other fauna. The restaurant also has a rooming above the restaurant which is a about a kilometer from the beach.
As to see the menu or what is available that day. They have everything you can image and whatever your conscience and handle. The portions were huge and everything we had was delicious.

I stumbled upon Edel's quiet restaurant about 6 pm. No one was there, but we didn't have much cash on us, so we told him to set a table for 7 pm and we would be back. when we returned at 7, the place was full. However, he had reserved a table for us! the first night, i had the shrimp and my buddy had the lobster. Both very good and with the huge amounts of side dishes, you will walk away full. every thing on the menu is $6, as of while we were there. Very cheap. Over the next 5 days, we ate here every night, bringing other travelers we had meet. we had everything on the menu, it was all very good. However the shirmp and lobster are the best. the Crocodile was good, but more of a novelty then something i crave. Edel and his family are a very warm hearted people. If you take some time to talk with him, he may even give you a tour of the house and his future plans for the hostel and restaurant. ask to see the frog room, its pretty and artsy, but can be quirky too. I will hopefully see edel and his family again, in the mean time i recommend you try it out. odaymi.alfonso@nauta.cu email him if you like, his lovely daughter speaks decent broken english.

In my trip around Cuba I visited many places and I tried all food possible just to have a good idea about cuban food. Well, this restaurant was the best in my trip. Once I discovered it I coudnt eat some where else. I had crab rice once and then the loabster.. amazing! Both of them Highly Recommended. So cheap by the way.
The chef was offering his food by himself on the street and that was cool to me.
The place is quite clean and the staff are friendly people. Try to get there by yourself because if someone else takes you there, that one has an extra charge and it happens everywhere because that's the way Cuba works. It's easy to get there... it's just at the entrance of town. The first hostel you can see.. and the chef (with his typical hat, easy to recognize) is always on the street, as I said above... Dont miss it!!

Heard really good reports of this from other guests at our casa so tried it. Alas, no lobster or prawns that day. I decided to try crocodile - oh dear. A real workout for the jaws and no taste to speak of. Luckily one of the local dogs assisted in disposing of it on the quiet as the waitress was a sweet girl and kept asking what I thought of it! Husband had bacon which was OK. Judging by all the locals eating there we just had an unlucky evening - other guests had raved about the lobster and prices are very low.

It's a friendly place which we found by accident. Orlando is a great cooker, all seafood we tried here was excellent! And don't forget to order a turtle soup, it's the best one!

Edel is one of the best cookers I ever meet, very good talker and pretty friendly, really enjoy staying there. Highly recommended for everyone! !

Friendly, loads of food, cook to order. Loved the plateful of crab meat. Lobster, beef, chicken, anything you want with lots of sides including fruit plate, rice, plantain, vegetables. Probably something thrown in at the end as well. Dinners are 8 CUC and beer 1.5 CUC. There is wine also, but taste it first. Went back to this restaurant twice more with friends and just enjoyed the whole experience.
You'll find it on the left side of the road leaving Playa Larga heading north.
