We were lucky to be able to book a table at short notice, an hour before arrival to be exact. This was our first visit to our local pub and cannot recommend the place enough!!! Everything from the section of food to the service was ‘out of this world’ compared to the many various pubs in this area we have visited. The home made puddings was a particular bonus and all meals seemed very reasonable priced. Absolutely delightful pub with fantastic outdoor space. We even left the pub with a lovely piece of artwork from a local artist!!

Visiting friends, We went for Sunday lunch, the pub were happy to accommodate an extra 2 people at short notice. We sat in garden as a warm afternoon. Delicious, well cooked accompaniments to the beef and pork. My only small complaint was the vegetarians in group had same meal but without the meat , which I understand is usually replaced by nut roast, but not on this occasion, but we were charged the same as meat eaters.

We visited for the first time last night, to originally pick up a voucher, but ended up staying for food and a drink. We were not disappointed, as it was a Wednesday we had the two pizzas for £15 and can honestly say it was one of the best pizzas we have ever eaten. The owners are extremely friendly and made us feel very welcome. Would highly recommend, will definitely be back 🙂

My family and I stopped off here for lunch on our way to Weymouth. The service was really efficient and the food delicious. Out of the dishes we ordered, we all particularly loved the loaded chips with pulled pork and mozzarella! We ate in the garden and there was a well maintained climbing frame for the children to play on while we waited, complete with a hand sanitising station nearby.

Superb lunch, incredibly warm welcome and lovely surroundings in a beautiful beer garden. We were travelling home from Weymouth and came across this lovely pub for our lunch with our 2 labs who were made equally welcome.
My husband and I had 2 main meals and they were not only delicious home cooked quality fayre, they were exceptional value for money too.
Highly recommend and the staff were just fab, warm and friendly and took real time to talk and share the experience.
Other businesses take note! We’d love something like this local to us.
We will be back.

Delicious food & first class service! My boyfriend and I visited on our way home from swanage, and the food was AMAZING! We had Sunday roast, the beef was perfect, lovely and tender, the Yorkshire puddings were MASSIVE (you got to have decent yorkies), decent selection of veg, and really relaxed atmosphere. We were stuffed but the waitress told us about the home made deserts and twisted our arm so I had the chocolate brownie and my boyfriend had the cheese cake. Both were the tastiest we’ve ever had! You can’t beat home made. All in all it’s a hard yes from me, proper decent tackle. Highly recommend this place!

We had a fantastic Carvery meal there last Sunday. Roast Beef and Pork, Roast Potatoes, stuffing balls, leeks in a creamy sauce, carrots, beans, cabbage, mashed swede, massive Yorkshire pudding and gravy. I don't quite know how but after a break to digest this fabulous food we managed to squeeze in a blackforest cake and a sticky toffe pudding. They were well set up fort social distancing so we were able to enjoy our meal without stress. Fantastic, friendly service that put us at ease as soon as we arrived. It's a shame I'm not a local or I'd be in here every week. Booking essential though as we saw people being turned away.

We popped in for lunch on our way down to Portland for our holiday. The pub garden was big and tables nicely spaced for the covid conditions. The service and food was exceptional, massive portions all freshly prepared and very tasty. Lots of handwash stations and really well controlled. Thoroughly recommend to anyone looking for great food friendly service and lovely location.

This was a halfway meeting point for a pub lunch for a friend and I. We were greeted by a super friendly, young barman who was attentive and looked after us really well. We initially thought the menu looked a little basic, however the food was amazing; perfectly cooked fish in golden, crispy batter with chunky chips that were fluffy on the inside. We weren’t going to have a dessert until we saw the chocolate brownie another punter ordered. Highly recommend this charming pub.

The Royal Oak is a great place to eat, the menu suits everyone, the food presentation and quality of the food is excellent, the atmosphere is friendly and its simply a lovely place to be. We are a family of 5 with a small dog we ate here for 5 consecutive evenings each night having something else and each night being pleased as the night before of the choices, quality and value for money, portion sizes are brilliant too !. Well done to the staff who seemed to be very happy in their work. Well done also to the owners who made us feel very welcome. Its difficult to know where to eat when your on holiday but eating at the Royal Oak made our choice easy...we simply didn't go anywhere else!

We booked a large table at this restaurant 8 weeks prior to our booking, which was for yesterday, so plenty of time. This booking was for a 30th birthday with 10 family members all travelling between 30-45 minutes to get to the pub. We had heard great things about the food here, which is why my daughter in law wanted to especially celebrate her birthday here and she had been here on many occasions before as lives nearby.
I cant tell our disappointment when we all arrived in 4 separate vehicles to find that we had a table in what can only be described as a child’s nursery full of pre school toys. The look of disappoint on my daughter in laws face when we were shown to the room. This room also being at the opposite end of the pub from the carvery self services and accessible via the public bar.
I did speak with Connor who i presume was the manager, who apologised and said we could have complementary drinks. But this really wasn’t the point. If we had been told we would not be in the main restaurant but the pre school nursery for you celebration meal, we would have booked another restaurant. I can only imagine that they had lost our booking as when my son gave his name, they couldn’t find our name and the booking wasn’t on the table plan. We did ask if their would be a table vacant soon, as we were prepared to wait for a table but they had nothing for 10 people.
Thanks to the staff at our local pub in Sturminster Marshall who did manage to find us a table at last minute for which we all got in our cars and returned home for a fantastic meal.

Having had a full day at the Tank Museum, my partner and I were in need of some thing eat, as the museums cafes were either packed to the hilt or had run out of Food. The Royal Oak had been one of the local eateries recommended by our B&B , so we rang them on the off chance to try and book a table, this was around 3:30pm. Just come on over was the response, we find room for you. Well 30 mins later, we were not disappointed. A friendly smile and hello from our hostess, a table for two by a window in a cosy and welcoming local pub, who could ask for more? The menu was plentiful of choice, I finally opted for the Chilli Con Carne and my partner the ploughman’s lunch, mine was hearty and full of flavour and my partner was blown away by the amount of food on her plate, with three cheeses, slices of beef and ham, pickled egg, pickled onion, chutneys and salad as well as baguette! Needless to say we couldn’t find room to fit a pudding in. We would recommend you try, we will certainly go again when we’re back down this way

This was a completely impromptu visit for us to break up a long journey back from Devon. We were so pleased to have turned into this pub.
The staff were lovely, really kind and chatty to our two boys and made us feel so welcome.
I had the pulled pork baguettes which was delicious. My husband had their house burger and could not fault it and as an ex chef himself he can be very fussy!
Our two boys loved their food but were feeling a bit exhausted because of the journey and could not manage it all but the staff kindly boxed up their food so they could take it with them.
Thank you so much team Royal Oak!
