One of the nicest places you can go to. View is breathtaking and amazing. Hostel is built in the rocks and makes it so original. Beautiful hikes around the hostel, easy to find and some are bit more demanding. Beautiful view on Santis from behind. The entire experience is unfortunately disturbed by poor customer service, poor management, lack of hospitality,... More

The staff is very efficient and friendly, considering the large amount of guests they have to serve all over the day. The desserts were also great and the prices reasonable (for Swiss Mountain). The big BUT was, in the men's toilet you could not wash your hands as the water was not working... how does the staff wash their hands?.

After a 800m hike up from Schwende (Kanton Appenzell) the reward being a guest at Aescher Berggasthaus is well worth every step! And don't worry non-hikers: the Restaurant is also accessible by gondola from Wassserauen (end of the regional train line). The view is sensational, the food of traditional Swiss Grandma Specialities and Desserts prepared with care are served in large... I have the picture of this restaurant hundreds of time and it was a dream come true to visit it. One has to take the cable car from Wasserauen stop up to Ebenalp and from there it's a 15-20 min hike down the hill. We were traveling with young kids and had no issues and many others had even younger... More

We had the best weather ever to enjoy the short hike to the restaurant. We waited a bit for a table but it was totally worth it! Best rosti in the whole of Switzerland! So so glad we visited this destination of a lifetime!

Yes, a destination you must have seen in your lifetime, this is the rating that the Aescher Berggasthaus has received. My guests from Albania had read in the social media about it and said: "This is our dream house". I took them here, fulfilling their wish. Well, I was here exactly 51 years ago as a young teenager and it... More

The Aescher is nestled into the side of a cliff about 800m up from the valley below. The quickest way to get there is on the Ebenalp cable car and then walk down the path for 30min. You won't regret it. The view is the most amazing thing ever and the menu is fittingly typical Swiss - roesti, sausage, etc.... More

This place is a "bucket list" must. Just getting there on the sky gondola on a practically vertical angle at times is worth it (you can also hike it). Then the visitor center is quite adequate leading to the walk path, surrounded by the prettiest cows with their collar bells going off is charming. Next you get to visit caves... More
