We had the best weather ever to enjoy the short hike to the restaurant. We waited a bit for a table but it was totally worth it! Best rosti in the whole of Switzerland! So so glad we visited this destination of a lifetime!

Yes, a destination you must have seen in your lifetime, this is the rating that the Aescher Berggasthaus has received. My guests from Albania had read in the social media about it and said: "This is our dream house". I took them here, fulfilling their wish. Well, I was here exactly 51 years ago as a young teenager and it... More

The Aescher is nestled into the side of a cliff about 800m up from the valley below. The quickest way to get there is on the Ebenalp cable car and then walk down the path for 30min. You won't regret it. The view is the most amazing thing ever and the menu is fittingly typical Swiss - roesti, sausage, etc.... More

This place is a "bucket list" must. Just getting there on the sky gondola on a practically vertical angle at times is worth it (you can also hike it). Then the visitor center is quite adequate leading to the walk path, surrounded by the prettiest cows with their collar bells going off is charming. Next you get to visit caves... More

With my good hiking boots on and light backpack ready to start as early as 4 in the morning, here I was finally making my trip to Aescher. It is one of the most beautiful mountain restaurants in the picturesque Alpstein mountain chain. The place is, literally, into the side of the cliff, and the view is second to none.... More

Oh dear! Having battled my vertigo all the way up to Schäfler from the Ebenalp cable car and then down again to Aescher, I sank my teeth gleefully into a Bratwurst and a plate of Rösti. Just heavenly, and precisely what I needed! The hotel/restaurant itself clings precariously to the rock face, and if you think you might be imagining... More

This "Berggasthaus" is built high on a cliff underneath an overhanging ledge. The only way up is a rather strenuous walk or the cable car to Ebenalp from whence you have to climb down through a large damp cave once inhabited by alpine bears, past a hermit's cottage, a chapel in a grotto, and finally along a narrow path plastered... We arrived to wonderful views: colorful foliage, a bit of snow, and cold wind. All the right conditions to grab a hot chocolate drink and admire the scenic landscape. The hike up towards Aescher is strenuous, that's why a cable car from Wasserauen to Ebenalp is recommended if you're short on time or stamina:)
