We went with some pals this time, we eager to repeat the pleasure of eating there and them in anticipation, having been told at length of how much we enjoyed our previous visit. We were not disappointed. Our waitress was newish to the job, which added some fun to the visit, she was very eager to please and kept reassuring... More

We went to Calais to stock up on food and wine before Christmas (BTW - do you know that you get a free Eurostar trip if you spend £250 at Majestic - bargain!) and looked on TA for somewhere for lunch. Chose Brasserie de la mer and we were not disappointed. The seafood was excellent and the prices were good.... More

My friend and I visited this restaurant quite by accident - and we were thrilled at the quality of the food and the reasonable bill at the end of our meal. The seafood and fish dishes were beautifully prepared and presented. The waiting staff were attentive, helpful and friendly. The whole dining experience was a pleasure. We'll be back when... More

Have eaten here before and was impressed. Had a few days in the Calais area with friends and ate here again, very friendly and attentive staff . Food was first class and would highly recommend to anyone looking for good seafood.

We are here several times during a week-long business trip and found it to be very welcoming, with a tasty menu and good service. There's a little outside area under cover but this is also the smoking area so if you're n/s you'll likely prefer the comfortable dining room instead. What's nice about de la mer is that it is... Third time here and the food is as good as ever. My wife enjoyed "Lamb and pineapple". I had the Ribeye. The French have a way of cooking that is much better than some of ours. No wonder they drive MICHELIN!

The food on the whole was acceptable. Soup was a little bland but inn the whole OK. Entrocote had reasonable flavour and the mussels were a little salty. The baked fish was tasty according to my wife. The floating island was a nice dessert.

Description
La Mer restaurant in the midst of Calais most popular tourist area wears its culinary heart right on its sleeve. This warm, traditional restaurant the sibling of La Sole Meuniere serves nothing but fish and fruits de mer, including twelve different kinds of moules. And it serves them all day long, even at four in the afternoon after you ve hit the hypermarche and require sustenance. The dcor here is comfortable and welcoming, with panelled walls, white table linens, and seafarer-costumed waitstaff who know their crustaceans. Specialties include cassoulet de la mer, sauerkraut de la mer, fish couscous, paella. Drink house muscadet and linger over superb cooking.
