My wife and I (with our seven year old son) ate lunch here on Valentine's Day, which is also my wife's birthday. The restaurant has many good reviews on tripadvisor so we thought we would give it a go. This is a classic French restaurant. The staff were great and provided a wonderful service. The food was fabulous - I... More

This restaurant has a lovely atmosphere with excellent staff. The cuisine is typically French and the Plat du Jour is particularly good value. We have recommended to several of our friends who agree.

I liked this place very much, my friend and I spent our annual booze trip evening here.! What a great choice. This is a proper French restaurant run by people who understand food, customers, wine and all it takes to create a experience for their guests. Top quality and the right price, a treat that will leave you with a... More

We had dinner here back in October and absolutely loved it. The restaurant is a typical French establishment, nothing overly fancy but up market. All the food was fantastic and could not be faulted. Our steaks were cooked to perfection and we even had to squeeze in a desert since the starter and mains had been so good. They also... More

We were on a day trip to Calais and I picked this from the Trip Advisor reviews. We were not disappointed. My Venison Fillet was perfectly cooked, delightfully presented and very tasty as were each of our meals. Four of us ate 3 courses plus coffee and wine for 185 Euros. We weren't hurried and spent 2 hours enjoying lunch... More

When we planned our day trip to calais from UK, it was our intention to visit histoir ancienne before heading home, having had an excellent meal there in the past. On this occasion we arrived at about 645pm, we were welcomed and quickly got to grips with the menu, which has 3 course set meal options at 22 or 32... More

We stopped for lunch on 2nd January (a holiday) on the way to Eurotunnel. One of the few restaurants open. Had visited before and was again very happy. Good traditional food and always reliable at a fair price. We normally go to dedicated seafood restaurants in or around Calais but obviously a Monday after the holidays is not the right... More

How I wish England had many more restaurants like this. Quality and knowledge run through every aspect of this operation. The warm welcome, the ambience, the decor, the integrity of the cooking, the high quality ingredients, the cookery skills, delivery of flavour and texture and the amiable, efficient service. The menu tariff is great value for this level of quality.... More

Description
Histoire Ancienne restaurant in Calais is a classic bistro with 1930s art deco dcor, fresco painting that recalls Toulouse-Lautrec, Mucha prints, traditional zinc bar, tables laid in white linen, harlequin floor and open fireplace where local fish and meats are grilled. So far, so intriguing. Patrick Comte is a fourth-generation chef who trained in some of Paris most superb restaurants, including Le Crillon and Prunier, and here uses the finest local ingredients in inventive dishes like duck tartare with comfit tomatoes and parmesan shavings, grilled sea bream marinated in lemon, coriander and ginger. Order the warm chocolate cake with molten interior with pistachio cream at the beginning of your meal. Theres a proper vegetarian menu, too.
