We visited this place each time we went to Tropea during our week stay in the area to get our fix on the gelatos. What made it for us was the old master, smiling and acknowledging our three grandkids all under 3 by offering a free small gelato with a smile and nice words. His method of building your gelato... This is a place recommended by many tour guides, books and Magazines. Tonino makes icecream of things you didn't think you could make icecream from, like zucchini or red onion!

I felt obligated to try a Tartufto, so I picked this place since it had good reviews. The ice cream was tasty and I couldn't find anything wrong with it (but then again, it was my first ever Tartufto so I lack a frame of reference), but it didn't seem like anything special. What got me was the price though!... More

Delicious Gelato I would definitely recommend! Try the Pistachio and the Cannoli made fresh when you order.

The best gelato in tropea..and one of the best I have had in Italy Loads of different flavours. Ameretto was my favourite ... But the onion and more unusual flavours are worth trying Heston Blumenthal should come here :)

This place is a real gelateria! The owner/only employe makes everything himself. He did have the story book flavors onion and olive, we tried them but stuck with our favorites. I can never say no to straccitella and my friend loved her Carmel. The owner barely spoke English but was very funny. This place was a real treat!

This is the oldest and most traditonal ice-cream place in Tropea and it has unique flavours of ice-cream you can try like Red onion, Tuna, Spicy Chilli, Seppia..these are used in fine cuisine in between courses but they are fun to try for themselves and the red onion which is the main produce of Tropea known in the whole world,... Seriously, I don't get how this place can have such good ratings? It was way too expensive considering the amount of ice cream you actually got, it barely tasted anything and my waffle cone was antique. This is surely a trap for tourists!

If you are strolling in Tropea, Tonino's is the heart of the town. It's been so long since I've been there that the memories aren't about the quality of the gelato (which I have to believe was excellent), but about Tonino taking the time to chat with us and make recommendations, sitting outside the gelateria and people-watching, and just the...
