Fantastic address: We wanted my wife, my daughter and I to have a light dinner with a plate of local cheese and deli meats and a good wine... what a good wind to bring us to this address. Omar the boss is an exceptional person:...he made us visit Italy with good wines at very fair prices. His focaccia or sausage dishes, or cheeses were delicious. We loved it. But even more so by this address not far from the tourist centre on foot, a real festive atmosphere, good mood and sharing. Every Sunday evening an animation, games, karaoke,... a good mood that spreads, a real happiness. Thank you very much for the welcome, for this grappa, for your generosity. we came back full of sunshine and good memories. Reading the comments, it is often like that. So if you live in sistre Levante, don't miss this divine place. Thank you Omar for being like this, when you come to Nice, we will welcome you with the best of us, you are a beautiful person.More

Exhausted from a few nights in Roma, we ventured up to Sestri Levante by train thinking we would take it easy. Well, we were the first to arrive at U Fundu. Omar, the owner and bartender, greeted us. "Alora! I choose for you" He brought...us several bottles of wine to try. We selected one...then another. We ordered the food he recommended. Long story short. We closed the place down. Omar is one of the finest barmen you will ever come across and the atmosphere, ambience, wine and food are second to none. Huge fan. One day I hope to make it back.More

Best food, delicious wines, great hospitality and a fantastic guy! Omar is running his typical Italian enoteca with a lot of passion and dedication. Glad we discovered this hidden gemin Sestri Levante 3 years ago during our vacation, and we were happy to return this...year again.More

It was my wife’s idea. She loves wine. She had read online about this Enoteca cum eaterie that has become a new “cult place” alongside the enduring Ca’ Di Ferae and Polpo Mario. But she led with let’s sample some wine – they serve stuzzichini...(platters of tapas-like finger food) knowing that would do the trick. The owner of U Fundu immediately made us feel welcomed. He guided us to a small table of rough-hewn wood near a corner of the small wine bar. The whole space is lined by shelves reaching to the ceiling and crammed with rare and – going by the price-tabs – expensive tipples, mainly wines but also rums, brandies, American sipping whiskies and the like. He suggested a Monterosso – a white from the nearby, mythical Cinque Terre. This was too dry for my liking but my wife was enthused. I decided to have dinner there when the stuzzicchini arrived. Not the usual fare consisting of bits of focaccia, olives and crisps that you can expect to get in a bar. There was farfalle made from legumes, a kind of salsita, morsels of lasagne made with black, squid-ink pasta sheets enclosing a rich seafood filling and creamed Roquefort (yes, on bits of focaccia). This was inventive so we ordered a Pigato – another local white but less dry – and our mains. My wife went for the seafood fregola – a type of pasta from Sardinia that looks like BB pellets, while I chose the baccala’ and chick peas. The portions were generous and the quality high. I had a momentary pang of regret when the chef laid a plate of pork loin before the man to my left but the salt cod was too good for the feeling to last. My wife’s other gastronomic passion is dessert. She ordered a berry crostata and was inexplicably served a sort of semi-freddo which was however so good she did not send it back. We accompanied her sweet with a passito dessert wine much like a rich Sauternes. We ended the meal with a glass each of grappa – different varieties at the suggestion of the host. I then spotted a (very) slim bottle of Sciacchetrà on one of the shelves, the oenological equivalent of finding a unicorn at Chester zoo. Is it for real? I asked. And the host launched into a history of that particular vintage. It could be mine for 80 euros or 50 euros for the even slimmer bottle. As I never make decisions on buying a bottle of wine that costs more than my dinner (which was a reasonable 62 euros), I said I would sleep on it. We will definitely go back to sample more wines and eat more food but I’m not sure about the Sciacchetrà.More

This casual, little charmer is a short walk from the main tourist area. Great selection of wine and beer. Small, delicious menu. Something for everyone..Owner, Omar, is a knowledgeable and gracious host. Locals love it, you will too!

Once you've done the more traditional Ligurian restaurants DO this if you want to sample amazing Italian wines. Owner Omar is passionate, speaks great English and has a small but modern menu highlighting local produce alongside pizze and aperitivi. More for couples but we had...our 2 kids 7 and 5 and Omar got his Son Tomaso out to play with them and keep them entertained while we consumedMore

Off the beaten tourist track, the passion of the owner, Omar, is evident in every detail. We put ourselves in his hands two nights in a row and were treated to beautiful wines, local and from further afield, as well as the best bar snacks...in Sestri Levante (and we sampled most!). Just go.More

When we travel we tend to always look for that special place where food, drinks and people all mix well. U Fundu is an absolute must stop. Basically a wine bar, reasonably priced, especially when you have Omar (proprietor) come out and help with wine...and beer selections. He's very proud of his wine stock and doesn't hesitate to make excellent suggestions. To compliment the drinks, during later afternoon/evening they present some awesome appetizers prepared in their small kitchen. All local ingredients and plentiful. Almost spoils needing dinner later! Omar is a great guy, loves the "Boss" and always has good music banging out from bar area. Has great location, town center in Sestri, with outside café as well as indoors. Customers are almost all repeats and all come to see Omar and are all good people themselves. We spent at least an hour+ everyday while in Sestri. Don't miss this!More

We have had great wine and treats of antipasti at U Fundu. It is a cozy little winebar with a great selection of local wines and quality Italian wines. The owner is very helpful and is passionate about his restaurant. It is placed a little...outside the busy beach area and is a nice place to have before- or after dinner drinks. Better wines than you normally find in the local restaurants - and is also a shop, where you can buy all the bottles to bring home.More
